Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Need Money

An Jian had left the store and would walk a few blocks then feel for any noticeable internal energy collapsing her fingers together then stand meditating scanning for signs of Li Zhao's presence. This would cause some people to slowly gather around her before she would break away from the small crowd and walk a few more blocks then repeat. From time to time business men could be seen begging her to take their card which she ignored. Some people started to follow her thinking maybe it was performance art, because she never interacted with the crowd. People wanted to know what she was promoting or if she was an actress doing a realty tv show with hidden cameras around.

It was late into the evening she suddenly realized she was hungry and had not eaten since arriving in this new world, voices of laughter and cheering could be heard in the distance, she decided to walk towards it out of curiosity and hunger.

Upon turning an alley it opened up into a street fair with many games with vendors trying to promote their big prizes. This seemed familiar to her, even in her world there were similar setups. Walking through the games, she saw dart throwing which popped some colourful water skins stuck to a wall. Games involving throwing balls into a bucket, some ladder balancing act where people seemed to pay to fall off the ladder.

However her goal was to walk to the end of the games where the food section started.

Coming to a food stall selling pork buns, she pulled out a golden nugget the size of half a tennis ball and asked if the vendor would take these, the vendor laugh, "Sorry princess, but I don't run a charity, it's $2, your fake money is not worth a damn here". An Jian thought to herself, gold probably isn't valuable here like it is in her world, she needed the paper contracts she saw everyone using. She left the stall and saw a child win a big Bunny. She had remember in her world sometimes the prizes could be traded back to the game vendors for currency.

An Jian then walked back in front of the dart game, and watched a little girl with her dad play the dart game, missing over and over only for the girl to beg her father to play one more time.

An Jian then interrupted "Can I play the dart game for you, if I win, could you spare $2". The father looked kind of pitiful at her but the daughter was mesmerize by her outfit and begged her father to agree. He paid the game vendor and An Jian took up the darts. If 3 darts hit only red balloons then the biggest prize would be won, which the girl pointed to excitedly. The red balloons were not as abundant as the other balloon colours and were never bunched together making winning the largest prize quite a low percentage chance. The father smiled not expecting much just happy his daughter was cheering on this strange girl in armour with all her heart, happy and excited. A small crowd had gather some heard the initial deal and some were attracted to the costume worn by a beautiful girl.

An Jian held all 3 darts in her hand then flicked them all at once hitting all the red balloons scattered at different places on the board. The game vendor was in shocked, the dad was in shocked and the girl jumped up and down, people who gather over hearing the odd situation were also stunned. "Did she throw all three darts at once?", "Are we being pranked on hidden camera?". The game vendor stunned double checked the red balloons and the darts. They were actually stuck deeper into the board then most darts usually were, giving him a hard time while pulling them out. He dejectedly grabbed a ladder from the back and climbed to the top of the booth to grab the giant stuffed Rabbit for the girl. The father, standing looking at her stunned then caught her eyes looking back at him, forcing him to blush. An Jian not wanting to sound like a beggar but had no choice but to ask the stunned father again. "About our deal, it was $2 if I won" The father suddenly came out of his dazed and was "Oh yeah yeah, here" pulled out a $5 bill and gave it to her saying he didn't have smaller change and that she earned it.

She nodded "Thank you for your generosity, it will not be forgotten"

An Jian started walking back towards the pork bun stall then had the bright idea that she needed more money and if she could play more of these games and exchanged the gifts back for money, she could have some left over for whatever emergency came up later.

As she turned to the dart game vendor, he put up his hands like "Sorry but you can't play here"

An Jian understood and walked to the ladder balancing game where everyone was falling off after two or three steps.

She took out her $5 and saw that if she could climb the ladder within the allotted time, she would win the largest prize probably worth quite a few times her game fee.

She looked at the ladder game vendor and plopped her $5 down. People who had saw her throw the three darts were now kind of following her. A large crowd suddenly gather as they saw this beautiful girl in cosplay dressed in armour ready to tackle the ladder. She jumped on ladder using lightness kungfu using only her legs sprinted up the ladder, each step touching the ladder ever so slightly barely moving the ladder like a cat. With everyone's stunned face watching, she easily reached the end, rung the bell and walked back as if she was walking on flat ground before hopping to the pavement.

The crowd was in confusion, "Was she on wires, what did we just see?", A little girl then yelled "She is a princess" Some people started clapping.

An Jian looked at the stunned game vendor, who finally woke up from his dazed and quickly grabbed a large human like mouse character stuffed doll larger than your average 10 yr old child, and handed it to her.

An Jian then asked "How much will you give me for this?", the vendor could feel she was desperate for money and said $10, trying his luck, then someone in the crowd said, "That's a rip off I will give you $50 for that" the vendor finally conceded knowing that this was the grand prize no one was really supposed to win until he had easily collected at least $500 in failed attempts, he re offered, "$65!". An Jian thinking there was probably room to gauge for more but decided to accept the offer, but the father from before with the little girl then grabbed the giant mouse doll and gave her a $100 dollar bill, he seemed to know the true value of the doll.

An Jian thanked him again and walked towards the food stalls again

Seeing that the pork bun was $2 and she could probably survive on 3-4 pork buns a day, a $100 was actually not bad.
