Chapter 165 - "Mirror Flower, Water Moon"

Komamura shouted, "Aizen said your blade can't reach him because your heart holds no hatred. But everyone here knows the truth — you may have no hate left, but you've fought through hell!"

"You've protected so many people!"

"That desire to protect — that's enough!"

"Enough to wound Aizen!"

"You don't need your sword. Use your will!"

With that, Komamura charged at Aizen. Shinji Hirako walked up with his usual lazy grin. "Nice speech," he said, hands in his pockets. "But seriously, why didn't you bring Orihime back too? With her around, we'd be patched up in no time!"

"Then we could fight Aizen for three hundred rounds without breaking a sweat!"

He shrugged. "Still, since even Captain Unohana's come back without losing her calm, I guess I'll let it slide this time."

He turned serious for a moment. "Listen up, Ichigo!"

"We'll protect you!"

"And you—fight for the ones you want to protect!"

Then Shinji vanished from sight.

A voice suddenly called out from behind Ichigo — Soi Fon. "What are you spacing out for? He's only open for an instant!"

"Don't waste the chance!"

"Don't think we came here to die!"

"We came here to survive!"

"Protecting the world is just fancy talk!"

"We're fighting so we can live—and so you can live too!"

"To keep everyone safe from Aizen, that's all!"

"Stay close, Kurosaki Ichigo!"

And she disappeared too.

Ichigo gripped Zangetsu tighter. His heart steadied. "Guess I was worrying for nothing," he muttered.

"These guys are Visoreds and captains. I should trust them."

"I should use their strength… and take control of this fight."

Up in the air, Hitsugaya Toshiro slashed furiously at Aizen. His Zanpakuto cut through the wind again and again, but Aizen dodged each strike with calm precision. Kyoraku Shunsui's blade suddenly came from the side—but Aizen flickered out of sight and reappeared several meters away.

Aizen smiled. "Impressive composure under pressure, Captain Kyoraku."

Shunsui grinned back. "I'll take that as a compliment. Guess I'm not as rusty as I thought."

Hitsugaya's cold voice cut in. "A captain bears responsibility. He doesn't fight out of hate—he fights to end the threat before him."

"Fighting from hatred is just dirty violence, not battle."

"Aizen, you're not worthy of being a captain!"

Aizen chuckled. "Funny. To hear you say that, Hitsugaya—someone who once hated me to his core."

"Can you really say there's not a shred of hate left in your sword?"

"Or did your hatred disappear the moment Hinamori recovered and came back?"

Hitsugaya's eyes blazed with fury. He tightened his grip on his blade.

Kyoraku swung again, forcing Aizen to vanish once more.

Aizen's voice echoed from the side. "Now, now, I wasn't finished talking, Captain Kyoraku. Still interrupting as always—such a bad habit."

Shunsui laughed. "Coming from you, that stings. But sorry, I'm not in the mood to listen."

Hitsugaya's voice deepened. "Enough talk, Aizen."

"Bankai—Daiguren Hyorinmaru!"

Massive wings of ice unfurled from his back, radiating a terrifying chill.

"You're right, Aizen," Hitsugaya growled. "My blade carries hatred. I didn't come here to 'fight.' I came to tear you apart."

His reiatsu surged like a blizzard.

"I'll make sure you don't even have time to use Kyoka Suigetsu!"

"Draw your sword, Aizen!"

"So, you're not even going to defend yourself? Fine by me!"

He charged.

From a nearby rooftop, Gin Ichimaru watched, smiling faintly. "Trying to stop him from using Kyoka Suigetsu? How naive."

"You all completely misunderstand Captain Aizen's power."

Hitsugaya's voice rang out. "Ice Dragon's Tail Whip!"

A spiraling storm of ice roared toward Aizen. He rose higher, dodging swiftly.

"Then take this—Ice Dragon's Tail Strike!"

The dragon shot upward after him. Aizen raised his sword to counter, but two massive forces collided midair—

"Tengen!"

"Tengumaru!"

Explosions of frost and force shook the battlefield. Smoke swallowed everything.

Komamura's voice came through the haze. "Sorry, Captain Hitsugaya. I'm joining in!"

Hitsugaya called back, "Go ahead! I've never cared for one-on-one rules!"

When the dust cleared, Aizen stood there completely unharmed.

"Ambushes, diversions, ganging up on me—use whatever tricks you like," he said calmly. "But you won't catch me that way."

Everyone launched another assault, but nothing worked. Aizen deflected every blow, his expression serene.

"You really think sheer numbers and brute force can beat me?" he said. "You're dreaming."

"No, perhaps it's more accurate to say your understanding of 'power' is too shallow."

"Let me show you what true power is."

He vanished and reappeared above Komamura, blade raised high. "This is power!"

Komamura shouted, "Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō!"

A giant manifested—but Aizen's blade cut through it in one swing. The giant split apart.

Blood poured. Komamura roared and lunged, but Aizen parried effortlessly and struck again.

Each swing cut someone down, bodies falling from the sky one after another.

Gin's soft voice carried across the chaos. "That's right. Captain Aizen's true terror isn't Kyoka Suigetsu."

"Sure, it's a terrifying ability—but it's not what makes him unbeatable."

"Even the Espada—each with their own schemes—followed him for one reason only: his overwhelming strength."

"No matter what you prepare for—illusions, attacks, defenses—it's useless."

"When it's Aizen, you'll always be caught off guard."

"His strength is absolute."

Aizen cut down Arrancar and captains alike with effortless precision.

Naruto: "That Aizen guy's insane! He's surrounded and still cutting down everyone like it's nothing!"

Frieza: "Hmph. These so-called captains are pathetic. One slash each? How embarrassing."

Ichigo: "He's so strong… none of the captains can even touch him!"

Aizen: "I will stand above the heavens."

Hitsugaya: "Damn you, Aizen! I'll tear you apart!"

Saitama: "Yawn. I'm gonna go grab some udon."

On Screen

Ichigo's eyes went wide as he watched Aizen strike down one powerhouse after another. "You've gotta be kidding me…"

Then, in a flash, someone appeared before Aizen — Captain Soi Fon of Squad Two.

Aizen smiled. "What's this? The commander of the Stealth Force choosing a frontal assault?"

"Abandoning grace to fight, and honor to die—don't throw your life away so cheaply."

"If you want to protect someone, you should be attacking from the shadows."

"Even a rookie Soul Reaper learns that at the Shin'o Academy—let alone the head of the Onmitsukidō."

Soi Fon's lips curved into a sharp smile. "Big talk for a traitor hiding behind Soul Reaper doctrines."
