Chapter 1 - AWAKENING

"Aiden, wake up, you don't want to be late for your awakening," a gentle but aged voice shouted from behind the door.

"Just a minute," the person behind the door responded.

"Then you must be ready to spend that minute in hell," the aged voice said, their footsteps already echoing in the direction of the room.

Aiden looked up from his cocoon of blanket, his eyes sunken from sleep.

"Don't worry, I will get up now," Aiden shouted as he flew up from his bed, straight into the bathroom.

The sound of water hitting the floor was soon heard in the bathroom.

Aiden stepped out of the bathroom, water sliding down his cheeks, and a towel wrapped tightly around him.

He walked up to the mirror, his eyes taking in every detail of his body.

His jaw was chiseled, and his face was pale. His black hair curled beautifully on his head. His hazel eyes glowed

His lips curved into a smile.

Then he looked towards a huge frame that hung gently on the wall.

"Mom, Dad, I will avenge you," he said, his smile faltering slightly.

He turned back to the small wardrobe that stood in a corner of the room.

He picked up his clothes and wore them swiftly.

A white shirt with loosed strings and small stains that stuck to it's sleeves. His blue jean was torn slightly in the heels, but still manageable.

With a loud bang, he pushed the door open.

He stepped out into the small living room and went straight to the dining table. "Aunty Vivy, I'm done," he shouted into the kitchen.

"I'm coming with your food now," the same aged voice said from the kitchen.

The delicious smell of pancakes filled Aiden's nose as the aged woman walked out.

The woman looked to be in her 60s, but her posture was still upright. She dropped the pancake on the table and sat near Aiden, who was salivating already.

Without thanking her, he dug into the pancake with his fork, finishing the pancake in less than 5 minutes.

As he finished, he rubbed his belly with his hands before taking the cup of water Vivy brought with it.

"Thank you, Aunty Vivy," he finally said.

Vivy nodded, then packed the plates away.

A warm smile formed on Aiden's lips. She had been the one taking care of Aiden since his parent died. Before that, he never knew about her.

"I am off to the awakening ceremony," he said as he ran out of the house.

The street was untidy and rough, and the smell of scraps and trash clung to the air. They lived in the slums of Asgard, one of the 7 high-level safe zones in the world.

Beggars and the crippled littered the street like pests.

Aiden did not mind; he had been passing this same place for over 10 years of his life since the death of his parents and had gotten used to the sight.

He reached the main road, and the honking of the cars that hovered slightly above the air covered his ears.

He did not have any credits, so he did not bother to take a taxi. He turned to his left and sprinted off to the awakening hall.

On his way, he saw a huge clock that was hung on a massive building. "There is still time," he muttered, quickening his pace.

Aiden stopped in front of a huge building that was located at the heart of the safe zone. Beside it was the Asgard Warden's huge office.

The awakening hall had two huge silver gates made of bars that served more like decoration than cover.

Aiden gazed into the wide expanse that spanned several miles. The shocking part was that the space didn't seem to be enough as people flowed out of the gate.

"The awakening ceremony will now start," the voice of the awakening elder passed through everyone's ear in an instant.

"Right on time," Aiden muttered through ragged breaths, bending over slightly to let his arm lean on his knees.

He had to run over 2 hours to reach the hall on time.

Then he brought out a card from his pocket. "291:15," the number was written boldly on the card.

Even after coming as early as he could 15 days ago, he only managed to join the 15th batch.

The awakening ceremony usually spanned a month each year. Those who couldn't make it could only get a spot in the next year.

The elder began to call people by their numbers. They climbed up, only to come down with varying expressions, some happy, some lost between happiness and sorrow and some were just sorrowful.

"291," the elder called after Aiden waited for over 2 hours.

Aiden walked briskly from the back, pushing through the endless people that blocked his path. As he reached the front, he finally saw the awakening platform clearly.

The green platform was raised over the ground with steps that made climbing it easier.

Aiden walked up the stairs and stood before the radiant yellow orb.

"Place your hand on the orb," the elder said, his voice slow.

Aiden did as he was told, and placed his hand on the orb.

Instantly, the yellow light bathed Aiden's frame, temporarily obscuring him from sight.

The elder's eyes widened as he saw the light. "This light, a mythic tier class," he muttered with disbelief.

A smile appeared in his face as he looked at Aiden.

The same could be said of the audience, they stared at Aiden with disbelief. A commoner awakening a mythic class talent, that was next to impossible. But here they were, witnessing history.

As the light dimmed, Aiden stood dazed atop the platform. "What just happened?" That was the only thought in his head

He looked up to see the smiling face of the elder before he heard the system chime.

The system was a bound gift for every awakened. It showed the stats of the awakened for clarity.

He looked at the system, his mouth opening wide as he saw the class he awakened.
