Chapter 3 - Sequence.

Chapter 03: sequence

"Well, the main problem remains: what do I do? Basically, even with all these different ways I could die in this universe, the world won't stop just for me. I still need money to survive and, even if I wanted to do something for the world, I can't do anything; I'm just a normal human, this body has no powers, and a system that helps me hasn't appeared yet."

"So my greatest concern for now would be money: I have to find a way to get something to subsist in this world."

"Pfff."

"It's pretty funny that my greatest concern in such a dangerous universe is money to survive." Letting out a sigh, a smile returned to his face.

"I could try to recreate works from my past life, like manga or fantasy novels, but those kinds of works aren't very well known or popular in this decade; perhaps I would do better if I were in Japan. Another problem, and the most important: my memory is very bad, so bad that sometimes I don't remember what I had for dinner the night before."

"And I'm also bad at drawing for manga." Lucas murmured softly.

Weighing his options one by one, Lucas was trying to reach a solution to earn a living safely. First he had to think about his environment and the place where he currently lived.

"Well, I currently live in Manhattan, more specifically in Hell's Kitchen, which, although a relatively safe neighborhood, is still dangerous if you go to the wrong place or with the wrong people."

"Fiush."

Sighing, Lucas rubbed his forehead, feeling a slight headache starting to form.

"Staying in this place is dangerous and it's even more so if you have a sister to protect and look after, so that nothing happens to her and she can have a happy life." Releasing the hand from his forehead, he began to rub his temples, feeling his head throb with pain.

At that moment Lucas stopped rubbing his temples as an expression of confusion and bewilderment formed on his face.

"Since when did I start considering her my sister and caring about her so much?" Without realizing it, Lucas had already begun to consider Isabella as his true younger sister.

"It must be the memories; they've taken root more deeply in me than I had realized before." Grabbing his head with one hand, Lucas began to feel more mortified.

"The problem is I didn't notice until now; it's as if subconsciously I avoided thinking about it and noticing the abnormalities I had. I didn't notice, and that has been happening since the moment I woke up." Grabbing his face now with both hands, Lucas realized his actions since the moment he arrived in this world.

"Until now I've realized my changes; it must have been because our two personalities had fused and become one."

Only by arriving at that conclusion, since Lucas could not find another explanation.

"Ding!"

At that moment Lucas heard a chime that sounded like a small bell in his mind.

Huh?

Before he could look for the source of the bell sound, a floating screen appeared in front of his face. The screen was white and illuminated the room where he stood.

Then black letters began to appear on the white screen, the words seeming to be written letter by letter as if they were being etched in real time.

You have three chances at a spin!

The rewards will be all that accompanies you until you die!

Looking at the screen in front of him, Lucas couldn't help but feel a bit of excitement since there was a small escape route to survive in this dangerous world.

That said, his luck was good enough to potentially win something great, like something that would make him almost invincible, like Superman's powers. Although he didn't hold out much hope, as his luck has always been lousy.

"Like that time I was going to confess to a girl and after I finished my confession a pigeon crapped on my head. The most embarrassing part was that she started laughing out loud. I felt so humiliated that I didn't go to school for two weeks."

Do you want to make your first spin now?

Coming out of his daze, more letters appeared on the screen.

"If you spin," Lucas confirmed.

The white screen began to morph in his eyes, turning into a colorful roulette that started spinning soon after it appeared.

Normally these roulette things would have names written on them, but in this one he couldn't see anything written—or maybe it was written but too small to read.

As Lucas pondered, his gaze remained fixed on the spinning roulette. After a minute, the roulette slowed and finally stopped. The reward appeared before his eyes.

Red Priest Pathway--sequence 9: Hunter!

The Red Priest Pathway contains skills related to war. Red represents "war" and the Priest represents the "ritualist of force." They are experts with fire and traps, possess enhanced strength and agility, can find and attack weaknesses, are skilled at plotting conspiracies, and can provoke others until they lose control.

When the reward appeared, Lucas couldn't help but gape in disbelief, because he recognized where the power came from and how powerful it could become.

Although Lucas wasn't known for a good memory, he could recall this one in particular: "Lord of the Mysteries." This was a novel not very old, which Lucas himself had read about five times.

Then a bottle appeared in his hand; it contained a liquid that was a bright, intense red.

When the option appeared, Lucas knew his life could never go back to normal. He knew the dangers of taking the potion and that it could push his life to the edge of the abyss.

But he also knew that this isn't the world of "Lord of the Mysteries," and here there was no corruption of the Abyss or other paths or gods that affect the potion, and even though he might still lose control, the chances aren't as high here.

But this world alone is already a crazy world by itself.

In his view, it would be better to have power in this crazy world than in "Lord of the Mysteries."

"Well, between two evils, it's better the one that helps me survive longer, since the other is basically inevitable since I'm already here." Pondering to himself, Lucas made his decision and brought the potion to his lips to begin drinking.

The potion was so thick it seemed to cling to his throat, and it tasted extremely bitter, making Lucas almost spit it out.

But Lucas ignored this and finished it with a single gulp, leaving nothing in the bottle.

After swallowing it, his body began to heat up rapidly and he felt pain.

The warmth and pain intensified. To cope, Lucas adopted a lotus meditation pose.

During the meditation, he visualizes a sphere of light in his mind. Just when he thought the pain and heat were unbearable, they quickly diminish and then disappear.

He decides to remain in the meditative state, waiting for something else to happen. After a while, Lucas decides to stand up from his meditative state.

After standing up, Lucas feels different—stronger, and his senses also seem to have improved.

The most improved was his hearing; he could hear vagabonds in the alley of the apartment building where he lived with his sister.

Unexpectedly, it didn't take long for him to return to normal and begin hearing only a few meters around him, as always.
