Chapter 60 - Sudden Explosion

The performance was spectacular, not wasting Lux's two gold hex.

Even though Lux had heard many wonderful epic stories from Klein, watching a multi-dimensional stage play was a novel experience for her.

The actors participating in the performance were all top performers from Piltover; every line they spoke was clear, full, and emotional, and their coordination with the music and lighting was extremely subtle. In comparison, the format of the Demacia choir was far too monotonous.

As for Ino... the little girl, who had never seen much of the world, was now even more dazzled and overwhelmed.

In short, both of them were very satisfied with the play. Even after the show, walking on the streets of the Academy District, they were still discussing the story from the play.

However, just then, Lux suddenly heard a sound above her head.

Hmm?

Realizing something was wrong, Lux subconsciously looked up, but saw nothing.

Did she mishear?

The next moment, as Lux was wondering, a building not far away suddenly... exploded.

As astonishing energy escaped, the shockwave swept across almost the entire block.

Lux, realizing the danger immediately, grabbed Ino next to her, pressing her down to avoid the shockwave. When they both looked up again at the site of the explosion, they simultaneously widened their eyes.

When the smoke and dust cleared, an experimental building that was originally exquisitely decorated had now turned into a pile of rubble—a huge crack started from the fourth floor and extended all the way to the street, even shattering a large section of the floor tiles on the ground!

Although the explosion had stopped, a large amount of debris, rubble, and glass continued to fall from the building, and the main structure could collapse at any moment.

Enforcers patrolling nearby had already arrived upon hearing the news. While calling for help and evacuating the crowd, they cautiously approached the building.

"Lend a hand, Ino." Klein sighed helplessly. "We can't just watch it fall... Full magical output, Symbiotic Resonance!"

"No problem!" Ino took a deep breath upon hearing him. "Symbiotic Resonance—freeze it all!"

As Ino pressed her hands to the ground, large patches of ice spread from her palms. The moisture in the air rapidly froze, turning into large ice crystals that attached to the precarious, crumbling building, barely maintaining its stability.

Seeing this astonishing scene, the nearby Enforcers were stunned.

The explosion just now was already astonishing enough.

A seemingly ordinary little girl, by simply pressing her hands to the ground, directly froze a collapsing building. This made it impossible for them to believe their eyes!

Under full magical output, Ino's magic was rapidly drained—when she stood up again, her body swayed, and her feet stumbled, almost falling on the spot.

"What are you waiting for?" Lux quickly supported the unsteady Ino, raising her eyebrows and shouting to the Enforcers, "Hurry and evacuate the people inside! Do you want to wait until the ice melts before acting?"

The stunned Enforcers awoke as if from a dream. Then, just as they were about to enter the dangerous building, several shadows suddenly flashed across the rooftop.

"Who's there?" The lead Enforcer asked nervously. "Come out!"

Unfortunately, his words seemed to scare those individuals. As he shouted, the colorful figures darted even faster, disappearing to the other side of the street in the blink of an eye.

Exchanging glances, the Enforcers quickly split into two teams: one stayed behind, and the other went to pursue the suspicious figures.

Silently comparing their speeds, Lux shook her head inwardly—it seemed these Enforcers wouldn't be able to catch those people.

Were these people the culprits of the explosion?

They didn't look very old!

Why would a few children about her age go and blow up a house?

At this moment, Lux's small head was filled with big questions.

Because Ino was somewhat exhausted, the Enforcers did not directly detain her and Lux for questioning. Instead, they assigned someone to escort them back to the hotel.

The young Enforcer responsible for escorting them seemed to be a rookie—Lux could clearly see that after learning they were staying at Blue Smoked Manor, his expression visibly relaxed a lot.

"Guests from afar, we truly owe you our thanks for your help." On the way, the young Enforcer rambled on, expressing his gratitude to Lux. "She's truly a powerful mage; I've never seen such powerful magic..."

Lux, in turn, politely chatted with him for a while, trying to learn more about the investigation results of the explosion.

Unfortunately, although he was a rookie, his lips were quite sealed. Lux chatted with him for a long time but ultimately failed to get any useful information.

Finally, the Enforcer politely escorted them back to the hotel, then gave a few instructions to the front desk, finally letting out a long breath, and returned to the Enforcer Hall.

...........

"Klein, did you discover something?" After returning to the hotel, Lux, after comforting Ino to sleep, sat on the leather sofa. "Ino's condition seemed a bit off today. Could there be any danger...?"

"There will be no danger. I am very clear about her magical condition—and besides, all those attached ice crystals just now were not solely her power." Klein's tone became unusually serious. "The main reason I asked her to act at that moment was that I sensed a familiar yet strange energy. While Ino was helping to save people, I could also try to determine the source of this energy."

"So, what was your conclusion?" Lux frowned upon hearing him. "It enhances Symbiotic Resonance... Could it be an elemental tide? That's impossible!"

"It's not an elemental tide." Klein sighed with some helplessness. "I discovered the power of Enlightenment—the Piltover people's minds are truly flexible!"

Although Klein's words seemed to be praising, Lux always felt that he spoke with a hint of gritted teeth.

"Enlightenment?" Lux was stunned. "You didn't seem to teach me this part?"

"Advanced content, you wouldn't normally have access to it yet." Klein was also somewhat helpless. "It's related to the World Rune."

"World Rune!" Hearing that name, Lux's eyes finally widened. "A World Rune has appeared? Should we change our original plan? You said it's a very dangerous power!"

"No, that's not necessary." Klein thought for a moment and replied, "It's not the World Rune itself, but gems or minerals or similar things that carry part of the World Rune's power—Ino's magic was enhanced by them."

"So, what should we do now?" Lux blinked, looking eager to try. "Secretly go back to the scene and figure out what this 'Enlightenment' you mentioned is all about?"

"That would be asking for trouble." Klein rejected the suggestion. "This matter won't end anytime soon, so we don't need to rush. Those sluggish Enforcers won't catch those runaway kids."

"Based on their speed, that's true." Lux hesitated. "But... Enforcers are responsible for maintaining order in Piltover, after all. They should be able to catch a few children, right?"

"That's how it is in Piltover." Klein smacked his lips. "But from the current situation, those children are from Zaun!"

Klein's Small Class · About Hextech:

The Piltover people discovered Hex Crystal very early. Although they were fascinated by its energy, because natural Hex Crystal was extremely expensive, this precious energy from Kalamanda initially failed to truly become widespread and could only be used in small-scale applications.

Later, the Pherros Family developed artificial Hex Crystal, but unlike natural Hex Crystal, artificial crystals had unstable energy and were difficult to utilize. Therefore, for the most part, Piltover people used it as a superior alternative to black powder—at least when Lux arrived in Piltover, the application of artificial Hex Crystal was still in a rather simple and crude stage.
