Chapter 8 - The Plot Keeps Changing

"The Omega Agency just called." Robert Zhane said as Elise sat down on a leather chair in front of him. "Two blind dates have been scheduled for you. You are to be at this address by two o'clock to meet the alphas chosen for you."

"Blind dates?" Elise questioned, needing a moment to process his words.

It then clicked and she almost let out a gasp of horror.

How could she forget such an important thing?! The Omega Agency regularly set up blind dates for omegas to meet with alphas they believed were well matched for them.

If things went well, then the alpha and omega could be registered as married and if not, it was back to the drawing board. The idea was to give omegas a safe space to meet alphas without getting into sticky situations.

It was a great idea at first, but powerful alphas would sometimes push to have them set up with certain omegas. Which made the whole system flawed because neither party could back out until the end of the date.

Sure there were rules in place, like alphas having to take a suppressant and not being allowed to touch the omega without permission, but they weren't foolproof. Pay the right person and you could get away with a lot.

This of course led Elise to land up in a sticky situation with some creep of an alpha later on in the original story. And it was the same creep that caused a misunderstanding between her and Xander.

Just her luck the blind dates were happening now.

She changed the plot and now things had gone haywire. Still, it wasn't like she could say no to the blind dates. Not unless she wanted to be confined in the Omega Agency for re-education.

"Yes." Her father raised an eyebrow as he slid over a piece of paper with the address to her. "Is there a problem?"

"No." Elise quickly shook her head. "I'm just surprised. It's so sudden…"

After all, the agency typically gave omegas a few days notice before the blind date happened. Which meant this was likely because someone was pulling strings in the background. She hoped it wasn't that creep.

She had already dealt with enough toxic alphas for a day. No, a lifetime.

Urgh! Too bad I still have to deal with those guys. Elise clenched her fists, trying to keep her emotions from showing. Why can't I just have a nice, wholesome romance instead?

"I suppose it is." Robert mused, breaking her thoughts. "Still, it's best if you go. Have your sister help you out in finding some good clothes to wear. We don't need you disgracing our name now."

Elise felt her smile cracking a little at his words. This guy is such a bastard, clearly knowing some powerful alpha is after his daughter. And instead of protecting her, he's trying to sell her to the highest bidder.

It gave her goosebumps that she now technically shared the same blood as this person. Disgust was an understatement to what she felt. If only murder wasn't illegal here.

"I'll get going then." Elise stood up, not wanting to spend a moment more breathing the same air as this man.

Robert nodded his head and Elise grabbed the note with the address on it before hurrying out of her father's personal office. Outside she found Rita, the housekeeper from earlier, standing there.

Elise ignored her as she walked over to Melina's room, deciding to screw with her a little. If Robert said she was going to have to get her sister's help, then she sure as hell was going to make use of those expensive products Melina had.

The thought of how angry Melina would get, unable to do anything about it, quelled some of the anger and annoyance within Elise. Finally, she could get rid of some of this stress.

"Melina!" Elise called out when she got to Melina's room next door to hers. "Father asked that you help me with the blind dates!"

The door slammed open, revealing Melina with a face mask on. Pop music coming from some kind of speaker filled Elise's ears and heavy perfume in her nose, making her want to cough a little.

"Can't you see I'm busy?!" Melina yelled, giving an annoyed look.

Busy enjoying life I see. Elise mused to herself before she pulled a white lotus move and murmured in a soft tone, "I'm s-sorry, Mel. I-it's just Father told me to ask you for help… and you know… You're the best person to ask for fashion advice… I-I want to do well on this date. Please help me?"

Melina gazed at her like she had grown a second head before she clicked her tongue, "Tsk! At least you know your place now. Come in."

She moved aside so Elise could step inside the bedroom. And boy did Elise get the shock of her life when she entered the room. Posters of famous actors hung on every wall along with notes and random pictures.

Almost every color filled the bright room, almost as if a rainbow had puked it in. For a moment, she questioned whether Melina had great fashion sense.

Thankfully, she was proved wrong when her sister yelled at her, "Go wash up and put this on!"

She tossed a tasteful white blouse and a black skirt along with lacy underwear at Elise before pointing at the door leading to the bathroom. Elise silently did as she was told and went inside.

Once inside, Elise closed the door and put the clothes down before undressing. She then turned on the shower to wash up, disappointed she didn't have time for a nice bath.

Still, she was able to use Melina's things and made sure to go for the expensive stuff only. Was she being petty? A hundred percent. But after everything, Elise deserved to be petty.

She was the only way she would be able to deal with this family without committing mass murder.

This is what you get for drugging your own sister. Elise thought to herself when she finished up her nice, long shower.

It had been a long time since she had taken a shower without having to worry about the water bill. It was a nice change of pace, something she could get used to.

Once she was dressed, she headed back out the room to find Melina on her bed scrolling through her phone. She looked up at Elise and curled her lips into a sneer.

"Guess you can look decent once in a while." Melina muttered, getting up from the bed. She then ordered, "Sit down so I can do your makeup since you're useless at that."

Elise's eyebrow twitched, but she complied and sat down where Melina instructed her to. It took Melina twenty minutes to do her makeup and hair and Elise had to admit Melina was great at her job.

She went with light makeup on Elise's face, highlighting her bright, silver eyes and making her lips look plumper. She kept her black hair down, curling it a little for style.

Once Melina was done with her, she begrudgingly thanked her, wanting to keep up the act before she headed out to the parking lot where a driver was waiting for her.
