Chapter 17 - Setting Sail

Early morning, Lucifer once again arrived at the beach, doing morning exercises while waiting for the news-delivering seagull.

Soon, a seagull flew clucking overhead, carrying newspapers and bounty posters.

It dropped a newspaper atop Lucifer's head and flew away.

Since Lucifer subscribed to newspapers yearly and had long paid the fees, he didn't need to buy each paper individually.

As usual, Lucifer grabbed the newspaper dropped by the seagull and opened it to read.

The moment he saw the headline, his eyes instantly sharpened!

"Breaking news! Pirate King—Gol D. Roger captured! World Government to publicly execute him in Log Town on xx month xx day!" (Fictional headline for illustration)

"Is it here...?"

At seeing the headline, Lucifer immediately tore the newspaper in his hand.

He didn't need to read further.

He already understood how events were unfolding.

He waited for the newspaper daily just to know the exact time.

"Counting down, half a month remains—it's enough!"

Half a month was plenty for Lucifer, who had completed preparations.

From remote Buna Island in the West Sea to Log Town in the East Blue was feasible—barring accidents.

Making up his mind, Lucifer stopped training and headed home.

He planned to set out immediately after bidding farewell to his father.

"You're leaving, boy?"

Seeing Lucifer's anxious expression, Mage smiled.

"Yes, Father. Today's news says Gol D. Roger is captured and will be publicly executed in Log Town in half a month.

I want to see what kind of person this Pirate King is.

After all, he also has the 'D,' right?"

Lucifer's eyes shone brightly.

"Well, yes. I want to see too, but I'm old now and can't keep up...

You must go by yourself.

It's time for you to set sail!"

Mage smiled calmly.

"Father... after I leave, take care of yourself.

When I become the strongest in this world, don't you still have something to tell me...?"

Lucifer wasn't one for flowery words but earnestly reminded Mage.

"Alright, no problem. Don't worry, I want to see you reach the top of the world, no matter who you become!"

Mage smiled.

"Then... Father, I'm off!"

Lucifer bowed deeply to Mage—one long bow.

"Well, boy, just one thing: don't die.

If you die, everything is for nothing!"

Mage called after his son's back.

"Remember, Father!"

With that, Lucifer stood and resolutely walked outside.

Having made up his mind, nothing else could stop him.

After eleven years, Lucifer finally truly stepped out of his home.

He packed all his preparations and bade farewell to old steward Morris and the servants who cared for him and Mage daily.

All were reluctant to see him leave but knew their young master deserved a broader world.

The small Buna Island shouldn't confine their young master.

"Goodbye!"

Waving to everyone, Lucifer carried a large bag and left the mansion where he had lived for eleven years.

After leaving home, Lucifer headed directly to the beach where his single-mast sailboat waited, still unused.

At the beach, he placed his bag in the ship's cabin.

The boat was eight meters long, with only one mast and a cabin for two to rest in.

Don't misunderstand—the cabin was sized for two because Lucifer needed space to store goods.

The ship also had two large oars and a heavy anchor, adequately equipped.

One must know, the Four Seas' weather could be unpredictable.

On windless days, one must row manually.

Buna Island lacked motor turbines or such energy conversion devices.

So Lucifer had to row by himself.

After storing his supplies, Lucifer came to the bow.

He wouldn't need to row when at sea himself—after all, he had eaten the Earth Fruit!

Lucifer activated his Devil Fruit power, causing the sand beneath the ship to move slowly and push the boat into the sea.

The speed was slow but saved effort.
