He was pondering: Sister doesn't like Daddy, what should I do about that?
At four in the afternoon, Laura Quincy left The Hawthorne Villa. Mars stood at the door reluctantly holding her, saying a lot—mostly about her coming early next Saturday morning.
Laura nodded in agreement, "Okay, sister promises you."
Only then did Mars watch her leave. Daddy said that he must take it slowly with her, and cannot scare her away from coming again.

After Laura left, she called her boyfriend Jasper Hawthorne, "Jasper, let's have dinner together tonight? I haven't seen you for more than a week, I miss you..."
Jasper's tone was not as cheerful as she imagined, "Laura, I have some work to do tonight, you know my job often requires me to work overtime."
