Chapter 4 - 1.3) The Village of Ursa Minor

As the sun rose above the treetops, the sleeping Village of Ursa Minor awoke and started their daily routines. Farmers tended their fields, women carried water buckets to and from the village well, and guards patrolled their posts. As the village chiefess walked the streets, she waved to her people and occassionally stopped to chat with them. However, a series of roars and the snapping of tree trunks had the guards ringing the emergency bell. As the Chiefess climbed the guard tower, her eyes widened was a horde of well-armed goblins being lead by a lesser demon was maching towards their gates.

"Guards! At the ready! Archers! Take aim! We must..." The Chiefess was cut off as a large ogre slammed a tree trunk down onto their gates, breaking them into splinters. The goblins instantly overwhelmed the guards and archers as the lesser demon cackled. "Foolish humans! You can't surpass our might!" The Chiefess rushed down from the tower, sword drawn, and began to hack away at the goblins. However, no matter how many were struck down, more of them flooded into the village. "By the moon... we'll be slaughtered..." The Chiefess's eyes trembled as the siege of goblins broke through the village defenses. "Someone... anyone... please help..." The Chiefess's whispered plea escaped her trembling lips as she became surrounded by goblins.

As they closed in on her, a single goblin turned around to find a figure looming over it, the figure's axe blade crashed down onto the head of the goblin, killing with great force. The other goblins surrounding the Chiefess all turned to face their new challenger, however, this wouldn't a challenge for Polaris. With a strong swing of his axe, he cut down the lot of goblins that had dared step to face him. "Filthy trash. GET OUT OF THIS VILLAGE!" He yelled as he crushed the head of a goblin. The Chiefess opened her eyes to see the impossible, her prayer, her plead for help had been answered.

"Luna! Heal that woman!" Called out Polaris, drawing both of his axes. "Leave these creatures to me." He grinned as he marched towards the now fleaing goblins. Luna rushed and healed the Chiefess and her guardsmen. "W-who are you?" Asked the Chiefess, her eyes trembling in fear. Luna smiled and looked at her. "I am called Luna, Spirit of the Moon, and my friend over there, is called Polaris..." Luna said, almost finished. However, she was cut short by one of the guards. "The Great North Star?! That's him!?" The Chiefess and the Guards all looked over to see their legend slaughtering the goblins that had overwhelmed them just moments earlier, with incredible ease. He was slightly different from their old legends, but Polaris, atleast in this village, was a legendary hero. The Chiefess watched as the goblins were thinned down and killed until only the lesser demon remained standing.

"YOU WORTHLESS ADVENTURER! I'LL KILL YOU FOR RUINING THE DEMONLORD'S PLAN!" Screeched the lesser demon. However, recalling that Polaris had a unrivaled hatred for demons, angels, and deities, Polaris slammed his foot into the lesser demon's face, and held it to the ground. "I have a message for your Demon Lord. I will die for humanity, and I will have conquered your pathetic people, your pathetic countries, and I will raze your empires to the ground. For I am Polaris, the North Star, and Conqueror of the Divine. I offer you and your people no quarter, no surrender, only death for any divine beings who dare stand in my way." The heat radiating from Polaris burned the demon unlike anything it had ever felt. Once Polaris lifted his boot, the lesser demon scrambled into the woods like a bat out of hell, fearing for its life.

With the battle over, Polaris returned to villagers and their Chiefess. However, rather than a simple thank you, the entire village was kneeling, heads on their hands. "What is this?" Asked Polaris. Luna leaned over and whispered to him. "They believe you're some kind of a hero-god or something. You're kinda popular here." Polaris sighed, "Stop this, all of you. Get to your feet." The villagers lifted their heads confused, but complied. After a lengthy explaination from Polaris, the villagers understood. "So, you're not a god?" Asked the Chiefess, to which Polaris shook his head. "No, I am simply a living star, walking amongst you just as my master, Sol, did."

The Chiefess laughed for a moment then shook her head. "I should've recognized that. Sol was a good ally to this village, and we were," the Chiefess paused for a moment, blushing at the thought, "I'll call it, well, very close." Polaris nodded slowly, and Luna shrugged. The Chiefess smiled, "That said, any friend of Sol is a friend of mine. Please, come with me. Let's talk privately." With a nod from Polaris, the Chiefess lead them to her home, where they chatted for a long while.
