She waddled through the water like an aggrieved duck away from the scene while everyone watched. It was humiliating. When she got to the lounge chair, she grabbed her shawl and bag and started heading to the entrance. Adrian looked defeated as he watched her walk away like that. He was ashamed of how wasted he looked and how he had failed to protect Nathalie. He couldn't bear to look at her face.
He simply climbed out of the pool and took his things as well.
Everyone was looking at Val. He was ashamed of his actions but tried not to look it. When he was out of the pool, the first person he saw was Dina.
His heart sank.
She slapped him across the face. Harder than Nathalie had done.
"We're so through!" she said, her voice quivering with anger before whipping her hair at his face.
"How worse could it get than this?" Val whispered to himself as he slapped his forehead and walked away with his tail between his legs like a wet dog.
Nathalie shivered as she walked down the street. The sun shone down, making it difficult to walk on the tarred road since she had no shoes on. She had to stand on a patch of grass so she wouldn't burn her feet. She had tried calling Danny, but his phone went straight to voicemail. And Lisa's rang multiple times without an answer.
"Danny," she said with her voice all shaky, "Val had attacked me again at the pool and I'm on my way home. Call me whenever you get this."
After a few minutes, she was able to find a taxi. On the drive home, the driver had taken another path to pick up another customer, and since Nathalie was familiar with the roads, she didn't panic. She didn't even have the energy to. The events of the afternoon kept replaying in her head, and she felt her blood boil.
Why did he have to embarrass her at a place like that? Did he think with his balls? She thought.
She shivered and wrapped her shawl around herself tightly when the thought of her bikini top having loosened and her breasts exposed for all to see crossed her head.
"Stupid jerk," she seethed through gritted teeth.
"You say?" the taxi driver asked, thinking she was talking to him.
Nathalie felt her face flush. Had she been thinking out loud? "Sorry, sir, I wasn't talking to you."
The man simply nodded in response and continued to drive. He took a turn and they suddenly came around the thicket.
She subconsciously let her eyes wander. Suddenly she felt light reflect into her line of sight.
She looked closely to see what it was.
Jason's car?
What was he doing there?
"Stop the car!" Nathalie half-yelled, and the driver stepped on the brakes. The force of the sudden stop propelled them forward, but luckily they both had seatbelts on.
She rummaged her bag for money, handed it to the driver, then she ran off, yelling, "Keep the change!"
Her heart was beating loudly as she walked through the narrow path. Since she wasn't wearing anything on her feet, she treaded carefully so she wouldn't hurt them. After five minutes of walking, she came into the open area. She looked around subtly not to appear as though she was looking for him; her heart kept beating loudly. And she felt herself shaking as she started to walk towards the lake slowly.
Soon she felt someone looking at her, but she tried with everything in her not to look back. As she progressed, she started to get ideas. The thought of what happened that afternoon crossed her mind again.
She knew that Val would explode if he was there. But she wouldn't give a fuck if he did
She dropped her bag in a dramatic manner. She felt like an actress on a movie set.
Her shawl followed, revealing her glowing and attractive skin. She smirked knowingly to herself. From time to time, she wondered if Jason was still watching her.
What if he didn't bother to look at her? She thought.
Well, anyway, that's his loss. She chuckled to herself. When she got to the water, she considered taking her bikini top off.
No, that would definitely be too extreme.
She put her right foot into the water to feel it for a moment. She closed her eyes as the cool water ran through. After what seemed like an eternity, she walked into the water, slowly. She made sure she swayed her hips from side to side as she walked in.
She continued to move until she was shoulders deep, then she closed her eyes, pinched her nose, and allowed herself to sink in.
