Two hours later, the two boys were out of custody. Val's dad tried to have a conversation with Nathalie's parents. They sincerely apologized for their son's behavior. Although Nathalie's parents tried to be as civil as possible, they weren't too flattered that their daughter's ex had tried to harass her. But they kind of let it slide and made it seem like a misunderstanding because of the previous friendship.
During their drive back home, Nathalie's dad couldn't stop grinning, and their mother wasn't too pleased about his behavior.
"Did you see what Danny did to that boy?" he laughed with a devilish grin on his face. "He smashed his face like a pumpkin! All the boxing skills I taught him finally paid off."
"You know you shouldn't encourage such behavior in front of the children," their mother chided, maintaining a serious face.
"I'm proud of you, Danny," their father continued, completely ignoring his wife's subtle glare. "He'll probably think twice before approaching Nathalie next time."
Danny and Nathalie were smiling in the back seat. They were both pleased with the turn of events that afternoon. Danny was holding a pack of ice to his nose while his sister was trying to get the grass out of his hair.
"Lisa's very worried about you," Nathalie said. "She called a few times while you and Dad were speaking to the officer."
"Oh shit!" Danny cursed. "Did you tell her?"
"No, of course not. I think she saw it on social media or something. She said she'll come over to our house when we return."
"Tell her not to," Danny frowned. "I look like shit right now."
"Too late," Nathalie said as she held up her phone. Lisa had already sent a text saying she was waiting for them on the front porch.
"Damn," Danny cursed again.
But Nathalie ignored him this time. She was really happy that her brother had stood up for her that afternoon even to the extent of fighting because someone had wronged her. But a few times, her mind drifted back to the words Val had said that afternoon.
Did he mean it?
Does he regret his actions already?
She couldn't trust him. Even if he was being honest, she wasn't supposed to care anymore.
Later that night, Nathalie received a text from an unknown number. She had expected it. She had a feeling that it was Dina, but she didn't want to jump to conclusions.
The video of the fight between Val and Danny was all over TikTok, and it had thousands of views and likes. So she wouldn't be surprised if Dina sent her a message to bitch about it.
"What's up?" she texted, expecting the worst.
The message that popped up made her heart pound wildly again:
STAY AWAY FROM MY BOYFRIEND
was typed across the screen in bold capital letters. It was definitely Dina.
"Tell your manwhore not to get close to me," she replied, not giving a flying fuck.
"Don't you dare call him names! You were the one that tried to seduce him behind the courtyard."
Nathalie rolled her eyes. Was there no end to this drama?
"Was that what he told you?" — send.
"I don't care what he told me. Don't you dare cross the line. I'm warning you!"
"Fuck off!"she typed before blocking her on social media.
