Chapter 8 - Episode: 3 [The Reunion]

[You have canceled the selection process.]

[You have selected no one as your guardian.]

The watchers were in fury. How can I, a human, choose an option that wasn't them? The kind devil was filled with sadness, the selfish pig cursed and others showed me their disapproval.

I didn't want a guardian; not only would this make me a puppet of the Watcher but would be confined to their desire only. Hopefully, I wouldn't be meeting this tragic fate. A slave without a master.

[Watcher 'The Entity of Arcane' is satisfied with your conclusion.]

Obviously, he would be. He might be the sneaky one, waiting for the right opportunity to seize. I'm not saying I'm the only one they can go after, alright! But there is a possibility or a hunch that they aren't leaving me anytime soon.

[Watcher 'Selfish Pig', you will die soon without him.]

Someone who always wants others to die, saying something like this. Kind of ironic. The pitiful fool, who chose him at the main juncture of the eight games, died because he wasn't qualified in his eyes. To be more brutally honest with you, it was because he was bored.

Keeping that in mind, I never intended to choose anyone as my guardian. Not even those that were the safest choice.

"Watchers," I called them.

They became very attentive; I could feel the vague, intense atmosphere like the eyes of the universe were watching over me. My body stiffened, and the weight of gravity increased on my body.

"You might be wondering why I didn't choose anyone as my guardian?"

[Watcher 'Golden Moon Light' leans forward and is listening to you.]

[Watcher 'Hero of Hundred Worlds' is rubbing his chin with his one brow raised.]

[Watchers are watching you.]

[The number of watchers who are looking at you has increased.]

[Watchers that are looking at you wish not to reveal themselves yet.]

There were more than five. I might become a prodigious man someday, not an author famous with readers but with the real world.

"From what I have seen, isn't it obvious you like something thrilling? Something amusing?"

[Watcher 'Selfish Pig' is nodding at you.]

"If I have chosen one of you, then what fun would that be?"

[Watcher 'Golden Moon Light' is asking, what exactly are you trying to say?]

Yes, make it direct. A faint smile appeared on my face.

"I will have you amused without having a guardian. I will be the bird that will fly in the sky without a master, and you will be amused by the sight."

And from that thunderous sky, I would bring down lightning that will wipe out what I have created with my own hands. It would be painful; it would have been if it were only a novel. But it's now a reality. A reality that needs neither watchers in it nor the universe of cosmos.

[Watcher 'Hero of Hundred Worlds' is laughing at you. He says, you can't survive without a guardian backing you.]

I can't, that is, if I were a normal human that was oblivious to this world's knowledge. Which I wasn't; I knew the past of this world and the present. Mostly, the future that would unfold.

I was soon asleep, but it wasn't peaceful. Periodically, I would wake up and then sleep again. In the morning, two hours before the 2nd game would start. I roused from my sleep; my mind was drenched in lassitude, and my eyes were red.

Well... Sleeping was another pain; for a moment, I had forgotten that I wasn't in a normal world. Just a typical day, until Canny burst into the room.

His elated voice resounded in the room.

"Wake up, lazy old man. The game will start soon, and we have to prepare."

Seeing me awake, he folded his arms and smirked.

"Look at you, waking up so peacefully as if you're not concerned with the adversity we will be falling into soon."

Would you look at this cocky brat? Not concerned? Does he have any idea how much I had pondered the night about the next game?

I shot a glare at him with my drowsy eyes and cracked a malicious grin on my face. However, the cocky brat didn't flinch. He still glared back at me.

How will he fear me? When he has killed his own best friend, his own mother.

I soothed myself with words and sighed, "I will be with you soon."

"Alright, better be or else." He pointed his finger at me, making a gun with his hand, "BANG!"

I placed my hand on the chest, pretending to be dying from the shot. Subconsciously, I smiled. In the end, he was still a kid who was hiding all the pain within that small heart of his.

"Hurry up, will ya?"

I nodded. I washed myself with the water we were allocated by another party. A little cold. Outside the window, the world was sheltered by the never-disappearing clouds.

As I was down, I saw them all ready, sitting in the living hall.

"So your Author Luis, " said Jaran. He was a Jin.

Jaran looked me over from head to toe and commented, "The attire suits you."

I wore a similar white shirt to mine and tight black pants with a black coat. I liked them, and they indeed suited me.

[Watcher 'Eye That Holds a Grudge' is scowling at you.]

Eye that holds a grudge was Jaran's guardian. It was a fairly powerful Watcher, but still an average Watcher, I would call him.

It wasn't only him but more watchers around.

[Watcher 'Dragon of Trivial Hero' is bashing the walls and cursing his own luck.]

[Watcher 'Four Hands of the Sinister King' is observing the humans.]

[Watcher 'Face that Shines like Star' is joyfully waiting for the 2nd Game.]

[Watcher 'Golden Crown Prince' is encouraging his Vessel to be strong and rigid against his enemies.]

A hectic place, I would call it. Maybe it was.

"Everybody's here." I said, getting everyone's attention, "Then let's start our plan."

So far, there has been no watcher who has been curious about my actual abilities. Even if they were, from what I presume, they might also see a similar empty system panel that I saw.

It was only a guess; I wasn't sure if it's true or not.

I began explaining the plan to them. It was simple; first I told them what I have seen in the future. We were fighting monsters that were endless, and in the end everyone died, trying to find the boss monster.

This... Turned their faces pale. Although it wasn't a lie.

The second game is like that.

We had to find the boss monster to end the game. It would have been easy if we knew who the boss monster was. Since the boss monster wasn't an actual monster but a human in disguise.

No one was aware of this. The boss monster killed them while discreetly following them, pretending to be a human without showing hints of its being a monster.

However, I knew who this boss monster was...

I glanced at Amberok, who was watching me with wary eyes. Maybe we don't have to find the boss monster.
