Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 – The Night of the Intruder

The grand hall pulsed with music, laughter, and the warm glow of crystal lights. It wasn't a battlefield or a training ground, but a place meant for celebration—more like a lavish club than a royal chamber. Nobles, soldiers, and newly graduated hybrids filled the place with chatter.

On the balcony above, Lothar leaned against the railing, quietly observing the scene below. His sharp eyes moved between the guests, though his thoughts drifted elsewhere.

At a nearby table, Hikari and Lyra sat together, talking in hushed tones. Lyra, the daughter of Darius, carried herself with grace, though her presence always drew curious glances. Not far away, Light sat with his closest friend, Karem, while King jugram enjoyed the evening in the company of Darius and Zuko.

Another group entered the hall—three graduates like the rest. The twin brothers, Alaric and Aldric, were joined by a girl with striking features: Mariel. Together, they walked over to Hikari and Lyra's table.

"How was your mission?" Mariel asked casually, her tone carrying the sharp confidence of someone used to being listened to.

"It went well," Hikari replied, calm and composed. "What about yours?"

Mariel replied. "Ours was fine too. We managed to take down a low-level Kaiju."

A flicker of pride flashed in her eyes.

Hikari's lips curved in the faintest of smiles. "Ours was a bit different. We faced a level twelve."

The conversation faded as the scene shifted across the hall.

Karem leaned closer to Light. "Hey, Light… how did it feel? Your first real step toward becoming king?"

Light exhaled, his expression heavy. "It went well. But…" He clenched his fist, frustration burning in his voice. "Facing that monster made me realize just how far I still have to go. If I can be pushed to my limits like that… I'm not yet worthy of becoming king. I need more power, more training. Otherwise, I'll never be able to keep the promise I made to my mother and grandfather."

Meanwhile, tension brewed at Hikari's table.

Kira, the sharp-eyed son of Darius, leaned forward with a cruel smirk. "Hey, you. The illegitimate Draekor woman. Why did you even join the Kaiju Combat Team? Huh? Do you think saving people will suddenly make them accept you? Don't play dumb. Cruelty runs in Draekor blood. You people never save lives—you destroy them. Wherever you go, chaos follows."

"that's enough, big brother" Lyra cut in sharply, her voice trembling with anger. "The Draekors are gone. Hikari has nothing to do with their past. Stop mocking her."

"Yeah," Mariel added firmly. "This isn't her burden."

But Kira wasn't finished. He leaned closer, whispering venomously into Hikari's ear. "I'll never forgive your family. One day, I'll take revenge on you myself."

He turned and walked away, leaving Hikari silent. Her eyes followed him briefly before she forced herself to look away, refusing to give him the satisfaction of a reaction.

Then—

BOOM.

A thunderous explosion shook the hall, the walls trembling as dust rained from the ceiling. Lothar was the first to react, vaulting over the balcony and rushing to the king's side.

"Your Majesty—someone just attacked from outside!" he shouted.

Darius rose instantly, his commanding voice booming. "Summon the elite Kaiju Combat Team! Hurry—mobilize the soldiers!"

But the king raised a hand. "No… wait. We'll send Lothar, Light, and Hikari."

Zuko's eyes widened. "But they're just graduates! They lack the experience—"

"They already defeated a high-level Kaiju," the king interrupted, his tone calm yet firm. "They are ready."

Without hesitation, Lothar, Light, and Hikari rushed outside.

The streets were filled with firelight and the distant cries of frightened citizens. Standing amidst the destruction was a towering figure—a humanoid Kaiju. Its twisted, almost human frame gave it a horrifying familiarity, and its glowing aura radiated menace.

Unbeknownst to the three, this was the same Kaiju once shown in Amado's laboratory. For Lothar, Light, and Hikari, however, this moment was their first true encounter with it.

The Kaiju turned slowly, its glowing eyes locking on them. Its voice was deep, mechanical, almost otherworldly.

"Target… is here."

The three young hybrids froze, their instincts screaming at them. This wasn't just another monster. This one had come specifically for them.
