Chapter 67 - The Truth Behind A Friendship

Sable's POV

The pack house was quiet as I slipped out of Bambi's room, my back aching from where she'd slammed me into the wall. My cheek still stung from the fight, but worse was the burn in my chest, failure. Again. I rubbed my arm, limping down the hall. Guards glanced my way but said nothing. Good. I didn't need questions.

I kept my head down, moving slow. The corridors smelled of polish and old wood. My room was in the servants' wing, small and plain. What she had gotten for me. But I didn't go there. Not yet. I needed air. Needed to think.

Outside, the night was cool. Stars dotted the sky. I walked to the old garden, hidden behind hedges. No one came here much. Perfect. I sat on a stone bench, breathing deep. My hands shook. How did she do that? Bambi. Little Omega Bambi. Stronger than me now. The power. It had to be.

My mind flashed back. The fight. Her eyes—silver, fierce. Not scared anymore. I growled low to myself. Stupid. I'd pushed too hard.
