Willow and Sage walked down the cold campus street in their hoodies, the silence between them thick and unbroken for a long stretch, before veering toward the back of the Dregs dorm building.
While Willow stared straight ahead, her expression unreadable and focused, Sage kept sneaking nervous, curious glances her way only to frown deeply each time, like she was battling her own unease.
"What do you want to talk about? I do not want to walk with you," Sage finally snapped, her voice edged with frustration.
That was enough to make Willow halt mid-step, turning to face the girl. Sage stopped too, her frown deepening into a scowl.
"I was waiting for you to calm down so you could speak properly," Willow said, offering a small smile that didn't reach her eyes but to Sage, those words and that curve of lips felt like a veiled threat.
"What... do you know?" Sage asked slowly, her tone wary, twisted with a tremor she couldn't quite hide.
