Navian let out a breathy laugh, the sound light and almost disbelieving, though deep down, it felt utterly predictable. Like a puzzle piece he'd half-expected to fall into place.
Indigo stared at him nervously. "I'm so sorry, I..."
"Don't." Navian sighed, and she looked at him with wide, startled eyes. So he offered her a small, reassuring smile, "Don't apologize. It's not your fault."
"You don't understand. I have to kill you, or it'll be my faction versus yours. They're going to wipe us out. What... why is this happening to me? Why me?" Indigo asked, tears welling up in her indigo eyes, her voice cracking with raw desperation.
Navian cocked his head slightly, giving her a questioning look. "You still don't get it?"
