Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Special Mission

Yuki's heart quickened at these words.

He knew exactly who Kagaya was referring to.

Living in Asakusa and having interacted with Yoriichi, the person they naturally thought of was Tamayo.

She had personally witnessed how Yoriichi had become Muzan's " Fear."

Moreover, one of the reasons Yoriichi was expelled from the Demon Slayer Corps was precisely because he had let Tamayo escape.

Perhaps Tamayo truly knew the location of Yoriichi's final resting place.

As Yuki pondered this, he heard Kagaya say:

"You may go to Asakusa in Tokyo Prefecture and visit Miss Tamayo."

After speaking these words, Yuki and Kagaya exchanged a knowing glance.

Kagaya understood that Yuki was aware of Tamayo's existence and knew of their connection.

Of course, as previously mentioned, Kagaya would never pry into how Yuki knew these things.

He simply continued with unwavering resolve:

"I will communicate with Miss Tamayo in advance and arrange a meeting.

Though it may be difficult, I will ensure this matter is resolved!"

Yuki understood perfectly why Kagaya had said this matter would be "difficult."

Tamayo was a demon, while Kagaya represented the Demon Slayer Corps.

Even though they had maintained contact, arranging a meeting still posed considerable risk for Tamayo.

After all, no one could guarantee with absolute certainty that this "meeting" wouldn't be a trap set by the Demon Slayer Corps targeting her.

Kagaya seemed to sense Yuki's thoughts and smiled gently.

"Mr. Yuki, persuading Miss Tamayo is my responsibility."

"Whatever assistance you require from me, I will certainly provide."

With that, Kagaya instructed his son to bring over a leather bag.

He opened the bag himself, revealing it was filled with silver coins and banknotes from the Taisho era.

"This modest sum is for Mr. Yuki's travel expenses."

As Yuki accepted the bag, he felt a momentary daze.

He couldn't shake the feeling that Kagaya was about to declare, "I possess considerable wealth."

At the same time, he marveled at how the members of the Demon Slayer Corps held Kagaya in such high regard.

The Demon Slayer Corps was dangerous, but the "Boss" treated everyone kindly, offered extremely high wages, and provided free food, lodging, and medical care.

Now consider Muzan's side.

Not only could you be hunted down by the Demon Slayer Corps, but you might also be tortured to death by Muzan himself.

No wages, and you had to fend for yourself for food and shelter.

In short, Muzan was a terrible boss!

After this realization, Yuki suddenly felt awkward—

How was he supposed to get to Asakusa in Tokyo Prefecture?

Kagaya noticed Yuki's discomfort and smiled. "I can arrange for Kyojuro to accompany you. Additionally, I'll have the Kakushi provide logistical support."

Yuki had no objections to this arrangement.

With his current Restoration Rate at 20%, he could instantly kill any Demon below the Twelve Kizuki with a single strike.

However, if he suddenly encountered an Upper Rank or was surrounded by multiple Lower Moons, there would still be risks.

Moreover, at Yoriichi's burial site, he might very well face Upper Rank One Kokushibo head-on.

With Kyojuro by his side, Yuki was confident that even if they couldn't win, they could retreat unscathed.

Kagaya patiently waited for Yuki to finish pondering before speaking.

"If there are no further concerns, let's head out together."

Yuki nodded and left the room with Kagaya.

As they walked toward the courtyard, Yuki asked, "By the way, how is the Kamado family doing?"

Kagaya smiled warmly. "I had the Kakushi escort them directly to the Butterfly Mansion for a thorough examination. Fortunately, they were all unharmed."

"Initially, I intended for them to rest comfortably at the Butterfly Mansion."

"But Mrs. Kamado insisted on bringing her children to work there, saying it would put her mind at ease."

"The Kamado family has a son named Tanjiro. He's incredibly diligent, and everyone adores him."

"Oh, and Mrs. Kamado already knows everything that happened. She asked when you'll be returning to the Butterfly Mansion so she can thank you in person."

Yuki smiled at the mention, but his expression quickly turned awkward.

'Why did I blurt out that "Madam, you wouldn't want..." line back then?'

As they walked into the courtyard, Kagaya surveyed the group and said:

"Giyu, I've reviewed your report."

"You're quite right. Demons rarely gather in groups. There's likely something there attracting them."

"Therefore, I need you and Murata to continue patrolling the area. Is that acceptable?"

Tomioka immediately replied, "It is."

Murata added excitedly, "Lord, of course! No problem at all!"

As Yuki watched them accept their orders, he recalled the location where they had encountered the demons earlier and suddenly felt a strange sense of déjà vu.

The demon gathering and the architectural style of the area seemed to align with a plot point from the first part of the original story.

'I wonder which unlucky demon from the first part of the story will run into Tomioka..'

Just then, Kagaya turned to Yuki:

"I have a special mission for you, Mr. Yuki."

"Furthermore, I would like to entrust Kyojuro to accompany Yuki on this mission."

"Kyojuro, what are your thoughts on this?"

The Pillars present were momentarily stunned by this announcement.

What kind of special mission required someone who hadn't officially joined the Demon Slayer Corps, and even needed a Pillar to accompany them?

Kagaya didn't explain, simply gazing warmly at Kyojuro.

Sensing Kagaya's gaze, Kyojuro immediately straightened his posture and responded with a booming, cheerful voice:

"I have no objections!"

His dazzling golden-red hair swayed slightly in the sunlight, making him resemble a loudly hooting owl.

Though he sensed something was amiss, the Lord's choice of him among all the Pillars was undoubtedly a sign of trust!

He couldn't possibly betray that trust!

Yuki suddenly felt a gaze fixed on him.

Activating his Transparent World, he confirmed that Sanemi was staring intently in his direction.

Yuki couldn't help but sigh.

'Well, as expected, Sanemi is about to question me again.'

However, Sanemi's words took Yuki by surprise:

"Lord, I apologize, but I must say these few words!"

Sanemi's tone was serious:

"Although you haven't specified the mission details, the fact that one of the chosen participants is a Pillar suggests considerable risk."

"Assigning such a special mission to an 'outsider' who hasn't even formally joined the Demon Slayer Corps..."

"Since Lord Ubuyashiki trusts this man, I won't question it further."

"However, to ensure the mission's success, I request to join the team!"
