Kasjia lowered his head and carefully observed the anomaly in his hand.
The crack was extremely small; if not for a Space Marine's vision, it would surely have been overlooked.
If it were just a small wound, Kasjia probably wouldn't have paid it much mind.
But this crack seemed a little unusual.
In the thin line of the crack, he saw no skin or tissue... but a glowing, golden-red light, as if it were still flowing slowly within.
He tentatively touched it with his hand, and it felt no different from normal skin.
What on earth was going on?
"I don't know."
Melusine's answer was short and to the point.
"But all the readings show no problems. If there are no mistakes, it's most likely caused by the modifications you received in the underground laboratory."
"Have you come into contact with anything unusual these days?"
"No, just normal swordsmanship and etiquette training."
Apart from training with Lord Commander Rylanor and Sword Saint Arcur, Kasjia had not encountered anything strange.
Besides, this was Holy Terra, and near the Imperial Palace at that.
What reckless daemon would dare to cause trouble here?
"Then, Apothecary, is there anything else I need to do?"
"No need. I'll just record your current condition."
"Oh, right, you might not know," Melusine said slowly. "Fulgrim is back."
Fulgrim was coming back.
Kasjia wasn't exactly thrilled about it.
Because, having read the original works, he knew where she had been messing around for the past three months!
To forge her future crusade weapons, she had gone to the great forges at the foot of the Ural Mountains, where she had met another Primarch, the Iron Hand, Ferrus Manus.
The Primarch of the Tenth Legion, the Iron Hand, Ferrus the Headless, Big Sister Fei, the Hand of Fate (a nickname that was retired after a certain two-shot bolt gun target also got it).
The two of them had hit it off immediately and had exchanged weapons they had forged for each other as a memento.
The Phoenix and the Iron Tenth had a good relationship, it was written in the original works.
That being said...
But I was here first!
Kasjia was very unhappy about this.
"Kasjia!"
"Open the door! I'm back!"
Sitting in his room, not knowing what to do, Kasjia heard a shout from outside.
Fulgrim had come to find him.
Calm down.
The timeline has changed now, I'm still alive, so maybe the plot has changed as well?
For example—
"Huh?"
Kasjia couldn't quite believe what he was seeing.
The one standing outside the door was indeed Fulgrim, and she did have a fire-blade at her waist.
But behind her was another woman.
She was dressed in a simple, black, form-fitting outfit, was muscular, and was half a head taller than Fulgrim.
As for compared to Kasjia... even though Kasjia's height had shot up, he still only reached the Primarch's chest.
Her jet-black hair was tied up in a neat, high ponytail. One of her eyes was covered in pure silver, and her hands were as if cast from pure silver, with a strange metallic luster.
This was... the Iron Hand?
Ferris Manus?
The real... no, Big Sister Fei?
Kasjia was in disbelief.
"Kasjia, this is my sister, the master of the Tenth Legion, Primarch Ferris Manus," Fulgrim introduced with a smile. "Ferris, this is the husband I mentioned to you before, Kasjia Sherlock."
"A pleasure."
Ferris spoke very concisely, extending her silver hand to shake Kasjia's.
"But, forgive my bluntness."
Her eyes narrowed slightly, looking at Fulgrim with some displeasure. "Spending too much energy on a mortal like this will only make you weaker."
As a standard social Darwinist, Big Sister Fei didn't seem to mince her words for him.
"Oh? But I don't think Kasjia is as worthless as you say."
Fulgrim turned to face her. Although she was still smiling, the curve of her smile had dropped several degrees.
Like a mother hen protecting her chick, she stood in front of Kasjia.
"Perhaps the future may hold changes, but for now, I see no reason in him worthy of such an investment from you," Ferris said, looking even more disappointed.
"Do you see, Kasjia? She's just like that."
"Like a Gorgon, baring her fangs at everyone."
After saying that, Fulgrim sat down on the large bed in the center of the room and giggled.
"I'll take that as a compliment."
Ferris was noncommittal.
"Kasjia, can you guess why this Gorgon was so angry with you as soon as she came in?"
"Hmph, hmph, of course it's because of this!"
Fulgrim said, and then took out an exquisite Xana-pattern saber-shaped power sword.
Kasjia had seen many master-crafted weapons in Sword Saint Arcur's collection before.
But he had never seen one more exquisite, more magnificent than the one in her hand.
"This... this is?"
"It's a gift for you," Ferris said, sounding a bit sour.
"Fulgrim spent nearly three months forging this thing. I thought she was going to exchange it with me..."
"I even specially forged a fire-blade suited for her, but in the end—"
It seemed Big Sister Fei's good intentions had been misplaced.
Poor Big Sister.
Kasjia expressed his sympathy.
And tried his best not to laugh out loud.
"Boy," she gritted her teeth even more. "You'd better be worthy of this sword."
"If you haven't made much progress by the time our legions have an exchange, I'll be taking it back."
"Hee hee."
Fulgrim giggled sheepishly. "It's alright. I'll just forge you a power hammer then."
"Or I could just give this fire-blade back to you?"
"Forget it. What's the point of taking back something that's been given away?"
"Hmph, I'm leaving."
She pouted and turned to leave.
After Ferris left, the room became much quieter.
Only Kasjia was still slowly stroking the beautiful power sword, his eyes never leaving it for a moment.
What a beautiful sword...
With the disruption field off, it's an artisan Xana-pattern saber; with it on, it's a master-crafted power sword.
Amazing.
Kasjia marveled.
No wonder it made Big Sister Fei so envious.
"Do you like it?"
Fulgrim asked, leaning against Kasjia.
"Yes. What's its name?"
"Fireblade."
She stroked the blade and replied with a smile.
"Since you like it..."
Her hands continued to wander.
"Hee hee, then let mama check if your modifications are normal!"
She let out a silly laugh, her long, narrow phoenix eyes narrowing, and pounced towards Kasjia.
She's all over me as soon as she gets back!
She's going to break me!
Sigh, why is Fulgrim so bad!
Kasjia's eyes were filled with grief and indignation.
He thought of his recently healed pelvis.
What would become of it?
Fulgrim, I, I...
I'll fight you!
He did not win.
