Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Some of the S-System's Rules

After Kiyomizu finished his meal, he happened to run into Honami Ichinose in the hallway, who had just given the beer to her homeroom teacher. They walked one after the other towards the second-year classrooms. On the way, Ichinose suddenly spoke up.

"Kiyomizu-kun... if I remember correctly, you're the student who almost got into a fight with a classmate at the opening ceremony, right?"

"That was me," Kiyomizu admitted frankly, though he was a bit surprised. He hadn't expected the incident to be noticed by students from other classes.

"Is that so?!" Ichinose's voice suddenly became cheerful. "After all, that Yamauchi-kun said some pretty awful things to the girls in your class. I think you were completely in the right! It's just..." She tilted her head slightly, offering a kind smile, "as a high school student, maybe you could consider other ways to resolve things besides fighting?"

Kiyomizu was secretly amazed. It was only the first day of classes, yet Ichinose from Class B already knew the specific details of what was happening in Class D. Had she heard it by chance, or was it... part of a plan? He couldn't help but re-evaluate the brightly smiling girl before him.

Unlike Suzune Horikita's cold, unapproachable demeanor, Honami Ichinose seemed to be a natural at weaving interpersonal networks, handling every detail perfectly. This innate social talent was truly admirable. Her way of speaking was also very skillful—she didn't directly criticize his impulsiveness but first affirmed his position before gently offering a suggestion. It was a way of communicating her thoughts without causing offense. She was the perfect embodiment of "high emotional intelligence."

"Yeah, you're right," Kiyomizu nodded in agreement.

"Really?" Honami Ichinose said cheerfully. "Kiyomizu-kun, why don't we exchange contact information? We might need to get in touch in the future." She proposed this naturally, as if it were a minor, casual thought.

And just like that, Kiyomizu got his third classmate's contact information.

The two of them slowly walked to the entrance of Second-Year Class D. On the way, Kiyomizu had told Honami the name of the senior he was looking for. It was lunchtime, and only a few students were in the classroom.

"Oh, isn't it Ichinose-chan?" a girl greeted them with a smile.

"Senpai!" Ichinose responded warmly. "Actually, I came to your class looking for someone named..."

Before Kiyomizu could process what was happening, the girl they called "Yamamura-senpai" was already standing in front of them—the very person he was looking for.

"Yamamura-senpai, can we talk for a moment?" Ichinose smiled and led the girl to a quiet corner of the hallway, her movements so natural it seemed pre-planned. "Well then, Kiyomizu-kun, I'll leave it to you now." She gave him a slight nod and, without waiting for a thank you, turned and left, her departure swift and clean.

Kiyomizu checked his phone. From the time he had run into Ichinose until now, only twenty minutes had passed. Subtracting the time it took her to deal with the beer, she had found the right person for him in less than ten minutes. This terrifying social efficiency left him speechless. Her smoothness in handling matters was not at all like that of a high school student. He hadn't even needed to hint that he needed to speak alone; she had already gracefully withdrawn at the perfect moment, helping him without seeming overly involved.

(It's like she can read minds...)

Watching her leave, Kiyomizu truly understood for the first time what the art of "subtle and silent" social interaction meant.

But it was time to get down to business. Kiyomizu's gaze discreetly swept over the female senior, lingering for a moment on the rather meager lunch in her hands.

"Senpai, the points your class received this month... aren't quite enough, are they? Interested in a deal?"

Yamamura-senpai's fingers tensed slightly. She looked up sharply, a flash of surprise in her eyes. "You're... just a first-year, right? How did you figure out the point rules on the second day... Are you from Class A?" Her voice was a mix of surprise and vigilance, and her eyes darted around to make sure no one else was watching their conversation.

Kiyomizu keenly noted her tense gaze and calmly reassured her, "Are you worried about being seen? Please relax, there's no one else around."

"It's not just that..." Yamamura-senpai lowered her voice. "The school's surveillance system is everywhere. If we're caught making this kind of deal, our class points will be deducted directly."

"Class points?" Kiyomizu feigned a look of confusion.

The female senior suddenly lifted her chin. "If you want the details, transfer 30,000 personal points first."

"Ten thousand," Kiyomizu countered without batting an eye.

"I'm taking a risk here!" she said, her voice a low, agitated whisper. "At least twenty thousand!"

"Ten thousand," Kiyomizu repeated, his tone still calm.

"...You first-year..." Yamamura-senpai glared at him through gritted teeth, but finally, her shoulders slumped in defeat. "...Deal. Transfer the points first, and I'll tell you everything I know."

In the end, Kiyomizu successfully obtained the key information from Yamamura-senpai. In addition to the basic class ranking and point distribution systems, he organized the information into five core rules:

The school uses a "Class Point" ranking system. There is a dynamic promotion and demotion relationship between classes. For example, if Class D's points surpass Class C's, the two classes will automatically switch ranks.

Class Points are directly linked to students' personal interests. The school converts Class Points into personal points at a rate of 1:100 and distributes them on the first of every month.

At the beginning of the school year, each class is given 1,000 Class Points. For the first month, a code of conduct will be enforced. Actions like being late, skipping class, or misbehaving in class will be caught on camera and will serve as the basis for point deductions at the end of the month.

Although the penalty system is strict, there are also ways to improve. The school regularly holds exams and events, and those who perform well can earn extra points for their class. However, when she mentioned this, Yamamura-senpai's tone turned bitter—for Class D, these opportunities were often just for show.

Revealing the S-System to new students is strictly forbidden. If caught by surveillance, the party revealing the information will have a certain number of class points deducted. Therefore, students from classes A, B, and C usually keep this information to themselves.

But the situation in Class D was completely different: when personal survival became an issue, the collective good became less important. A small number of Class D students would even take risks to sell information secretly. If the school hadn't explicitly forbidden it, given the situation of Class D students, they probably would have cornered every new student and sold all the information they had. After all, the school wanted students to discover the rules through their own exploration, and directly selling information would ruin that process. As long as they avoided the cameras and conducted small transactions in secret corners, the school often turned a blind eye.
