Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Sae Chabashira's Sudden Concern

(So not everyone in Class A is as smart as Sakayanagi?)

(She has a record of theft but got into Class A, while an honor student like Horikita is in Class D... I understand this school less and less.)

(Does this mean the people in charge of class assignments don't really care about a student's past?)

However, at the moment, it seemed that this Kamuro being in Class A was not a good thing. When he had parted ways with Arisu Sakayanagi, he had caught the look she gave Masumi Kamuro. It was the look of a predator spotting its prey, filled with playful mockery and cold interest. That meticulous and beautiful girl had already identified Masumi Kamuro as a perfect pawn.

Thinking about it, if not for his timely intervention, Masumi Kamuro would have likely become a toy in Arisu Sakayanagi's hands because of the beer incident. That's why he had given her the beer he just took from the shelf and casually dropped a few hints, telling her to be careful and not get tricked by any bad women. She should understand what he meant. After all, she was a Class A student; her intelligence should be at a baseline level. Probably.

...

Later that morning, Kiyomizu went to the office again for a private talk with Sae Chabashira. She informed him of the resolution regarding his earlier report and transferred 50,000 personal points to his account. Although she didn't say it explicitly, the implication was clear—it was hush money.

Kiyomizu readily accepted the arrangement. After all, his initial reason for reporting was to test the school's rules and regulations through Chabashira. Now that his goal was achieved, there was no need to pursue the matter further.

Kiyomizu also transferred 15,000 points back to her. This included the cost of the canned beer—less than 300 yen per can, for a total of around 5,000 points—and the other 10,000 points were payment for her errand.

His net profit from the bet was 85,000 points. Adding the 50,000-point reward and his original 100,000 points, Kiyomizu's current total was 235,000 points.

Chabashira casually asked, "Who was the opponent you won the bet against?"

"Arisu Sakayanagi from Class A," Kiyomizu replied offhandedly.

The moment he said it, he noticed Chabashira's expression was quite spectacular. A strange light flashed in her eyes—a complex emotion mixed with surprise, anticipation, and even a faint excitement. She opened her mouth as if to say something important, but in the end, she just muttered, "Let's... wait until after the first month to talk about it." The words seemed directed at Kiyomizu, but also as if she were reminding herself.

As he was leaving, Chabashira, contrary to her usual demeanor, added a warning: "Your personal points... use them sparingly." Her tone carried a rare hint of concern, a stark contrast to her usual cold image.

Kiyomizu's internal alarm bells went off. When a habitually cold person suddenly shows you kindness, there must be a calculated motive hidden behind the gentleness. For now, however, he couldn't see through the scheme behind her warm facade.

Kiyomizu shook his head, deciding to set these doubts aside for the time being. Ultimately, Sae Chabashira was the homeroom teacher of Class D. Even if she had ulterior motives, she probably wouldn't do anything to harm her own students—at least on the surface, their interests were aligned.

...

The first official task for new students was to check into their dorms. When Kiyomizu followed the map to the first-year dormitory area, the building before him made him pause—it was a modern, high-end apartment building. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, he could vaguely see the simple yet comfortable interior, perfectly confirming the promise in the school handbook: all students were provided with a private single room.

In his high school memories, the word "dorm" was forever associated with eight-person rooms, crowded iron bunk beds, and never-enough storage space. This was the first time in his life as a student that he had his own room. He felt a small, inexplicable thrill of excitement.

Standing in the check-in line, Kiyomizu suddenly realized that the dormitory was co-ed. On a nearby wall, the "Student Dormitory Regulations" were neatly posted in black and white. Under the "Student Interaction Guidelines," the school neither explicitly forbade relationships between different genders nor set any restrictions, only stating ambiguously: "Relationships unbecoming of a high school student are prohibited."

(This phrasing is like a word game...) Kiyomizu thought to himself. What did "unbecoming of a student's status" mean? Was it hinting at a ban on student-teacher relationships? Or did it mean anything was fine as long as it didn't affect academics?

When his eyes drifted to a vending machine in the corner, he saw that it was stocked with various types of condoms.

(I see... it's not prohibited, but you must prioritize safety? As long as you don't create another life, it's fine?!)

The line moved quickly, and soon it was his turn. After confirming he was assigned to room 402, the ever-meticulous Kiyomizu made sure to ask about utilities and rent.

"All expenses related to your accommodation are covered by the school," the staff member explained kindly. "Just be mindful not to be overly wasteful."

This answer left Kiyomizu speechless—the dorm conditions were almost too good. On second thought, perhaps this was a carefully designed safety net by the school: even if a student used up all their monthly points, their basic housing needs would still be met.

Kiyomizu thoughtfully rubbed the key card in his hand, then suddenly asked, "Is there only one key card for the room? If I lose it..."

The staff member pushed up his glasses slightly and explained in a gentle tone, "The standard issue is indeed only one main card. However..." he paused deliberately, "with the relevant proof, you can apply for a sub-card for a specific person."

Noticing Kiyomizu's surprised expression, the staff member smiled understandingly. "Whether it's a best friend or a romantic partner, an application can be made as long as both parties agree." He added meaningfully, "Of course, this must all be based on complete mutual consent."

"I see, thank you for the explanation," Kiyomizu nodded politely.

Although he had no use for this service at the moment, he was quite surprised by the school's open-minded management style. He just wondered what the criteria for "relevant proof" were. It couldn't be that any girl could claim to be his girlfriend and get a key card, right?
