Chapter 28: Going Home with Uncle
Now, someone was suddenly telling Naruto that they knew who his parents were—and that his parents were even heroes who protected Konoha?
This made him incredibly curious. He scratched his ears and cheeks, itching to find out the truth right away.
"Then come home with Uncle, and I'll tell you once we get there."
"Uh, alright."
Naruto readily agreed.
Although this uncle didn't look like a good person, some strange premonition in his heart told him that this man wouldn't hurt him.
The plan changed on the fly, so Fugaku gave up on his ramen craving and led Naruto away from the street. They passed through a small grove, returning to the Uchiha Clan Land, eventually arriving at a grand, imposing gate.
"We're here. Come on in."
Fugaku noticed Naruto's hesitation, so he spoke softly.
Naruto looked up, a little scared.
"Uncle, are you really not a human trafficker? This is my first time hearing there's such a remote place inside the village… and we even had to walk through a creepy little forest…"
A few black lines appeared on Fugaku's forehead. Naruto's words only solidified his resolve to move the Uchiha Clan Land back into the village center.
Hmm… I'll bring this up at the next clan meeting. Yes—move quickly!
"Come on, we're already here. Let's go."
Fugaku gently nudged Naruto inside.
Naruto had no choice but to brace himself and walk in. They passed through a courtyard and approached a warmly lit inner room.
Fugaku pushed open the door and glanced around the entryway. Not seeing Mikoto, he called out:
"Mikoto, I'm home!"
Thudding footsteps echoed from upstairs, followed by a warm voice:
"Welcome home!"
Uchiha Mikoto came down the stairs and spotted her husband changing shoes at the door. Next to him stood a thin, small 'little beggar.'
Mikoto instantly recognized the child's identity. Surprise flashed in her eyes as she looked at Fugaku, her gaze silently asking:
Didn't you say we weren't supposed to approach Naruto? Why did you bring him home?
But Fugaku only winked at her.
Mikoto's mind clicked into place.
Oh, right! The Hokage who gave that order is dead. My husband is the Hokage now!
She paused for a moment and then warmly approached, crouching down and gently patting Naruto's little head.
"Hello, Naruto. I was a good friend of your mother's. You can call me Aunt Mikoto."
Naruto's mouth slightly opened in disbelief. Aside from Hokage Grandpa, no one had ever treated him this warmly before.
This beautiful big sister is so nice…
"Are you really my mom's friend?"
"Yes, I am."
"Then… do you know where my mom is?" Naruto quickly turned to Fugaku. "Uncle, didn't you say you'd tell me once we got here? Can you tell me now?"
Fugaku and Mikoto exchanged glances. Fugaku was just about to say the names Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki, when suddenly Naruto pointed forward in shock, stammering:
"Sa… Sa… Sasuke?! Why are you here?!"
Naruto shouted.
Sasuke, who had just stepped out of the bathroom, was equally surprised. But he quickly returned to his usual aloof demeanor. His hands, still pulling up his pants a moment ago, crossed over his chest as he coolly replied:
"Idiot, this is my house. I should be asking you—why are you here?"
"Bastard… you!"
Naruto ran toward Sasuke and immediately began bickering with him.
Thanks to Sasuke's sudden appearance, Naruto was completely distracted.
Fugaku smiled slightly at the scene.
As expected of the reincarnations of Indra and Asura—their timing really is perfect.
Taking advantage of the moment, Fugaku briefly explained to Mikoto his decision to adopt Naruto and bring him home.
Mikoto agreed without hesitation.
She and Kushina had been very close friends. Watching Kushina and her husband give their lives to protect Konoha by sealing the Nine-Tails, only for their child to be treated like trash by the villagers… it had been eating at her heart for years.
But back then, Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi had strictly forbidden the Uchiha Clan from approaching Naruto.
Even though Mikoto wanted to help, she had been powerless under the Third's oppression.
Let's be honest—she wasn't saintly enough to risk the future of the entire Uchiha Clan just to take care of a friend's child.
But now, everything was different. The Third Hokage was dead, and her husband was the Fifth Hokage.
She could finally care for Naruto openly and proudly.
Mikoto watched the two children bickering, a warm smile curling at her lips.
"These two… they really look like brothers."
Fugaku raised an eyebrow in confusion.
One has black hair, the other yellow. And the yellow one even has whiskers. How exactly do they look like brothers?
Just then, Mikoto suddenly remembered something and quickly left the entryway. She soon returned with several plates full of snacks and fruit.
Smiling, she called out,
"Naruto, come here. Auntie has some tasty treats. Don't be shy!"
Naruto was stunned. He had never seen so many delicious snacks before.
At home, he only had instant noodles and expired milk. And even when he wanted to buy something nice, the shopkeepers wouldn't sell it to him.
His eyes sparkled at the brightly packaged treats, and he swallowed hard.
"Big sister… can I really eat these?"
Mikoto giggled and gently ruffled his hair, then handed him a large handful of snacks.
"Of course, eat all you want! Auntie has lots more where that came from."
Naruto grinned foolishly, feeling something he hadn't felt in a long time: warmth.
Sasuke, watching this, was extremely displeased.
You call my mom "big sister"?! Doesn't that make you a generation older than me?! What kind of sneaky move is that!
Sasuke snorted,
"Hey! Who told you to call my mom 'sister'? Call her 'Auntie,' you ill-mannered fool!"
The words had barely left his mouth before Mikoto flicked him on the forehead.
"Ouch!"
Sasuke clutched his forehead, staring at his mother with a wounded expression.
"Sasuke."
Her voice was gentle, but her gaze made Sasuke shrink his neck in fear. He obediently kept quiet and sulked off to the table. Once Mikoto left the room, he glanced at the grinning Naruto and, not to be outdone, started grabbing snacks too.
Naruto glared.
The two immediately started arguing again.
Fugaku was too lazy to deal with the two brats. He strolled toward the kitchen and called out,
"Mikoto, is there anything to eat? I haven't had dinner yet."
Mikoto was washing a pot.
"Husband, sit down, I'll make something right away. Oh, by the way—has Naruto eaten?"
Fugaku thought back to when he saw Naruto leaving Ichiraku Ramen.
"He probably had ramen earlier."
But how long ago was that?
So Mikoto decided to prepare a separate meal for Naruto, just in case.
"Naruto, dinner's ready!"
Mikoto placed a steaming, fragrant plate of food on the table and gently called him to wash his hands and eat.
Naruto, who had just been arguing with Sasuke, froze in place as he stared at the beautiful, warm meal laid out in front of him.
