Chapter 2 - FINAL CHAPTER WARZONE

THE UNSEEN ELEVEN.

Commentator 1: "My name is Brian O'Neil, joining me on commentary today is Steward Braxton"

Commentator 2: "Thank you Brain, the players are currently walking on to the pitch, the rain just came to a pause, I can imagine the players were welcomed by cold breeze and went grass. Hopefully, will not affect the game today"

Commentator 1: "what are you talking about Steward? Whether it's rainy, hot or snow. This is a Qualifying match for the clash of champion's league and each of the teams today are in desperate need of Victory that in mind this is a lovely day for football none the less."

Commentator 2: "Considered me corrected brain. As we wait what appears to be a Cinderella story. Let's talk about the teams playing today."

Commentator 2: "The champions Spartans united Up against Team Dynamo, im just as curious as the rest of the world to see whether the ultimate under dogs, team dynamo can somehow get passed Spartans Lions gate and clip off the eagle wing. Brain your thoughts?"

Commentator 2: "Brain?"

Commentator 1: "I'm so sorry steward! I couldn't help but get lost in this crowd! They are amazing today, loud and active as they should. Hopefully, they stay this way through game"

Commentator 2: "Oh god, there you go again, anyways speaking of the crowd there appears to be no one wearing any Team dynamo gear in the crowd or is it just my eyes"

Commentator 1: "It's not just your eyes steward, this is Team dynamos first real match most of the world if not all have never heard of them. Hence, just like me we are all here excited to see these youngsters demolished by Spartans."

Commentator 2: "Coming to that, is it true that the Spartans paid for 80% of the tickets today?"

Commentator 1: "you're absolutely right Steward, Spartans went out and turned this qualifying match into a charity match paying 80% of the tickets and the rest going to charity. If you at home want to donate follow the details in the link below."

Commentator 2: "That's a high level of disrespect to me, to make this match a charity match as if the Spartans are playing some low class team in a friendly's at the other side of the world."

Commentator 1: " hahah… steward that's exactly what's going on here, the Spartans have reached a level where they have the right to be this disrespectful, besides this is an amazing opportunity to gain any new fans they didn't already have."

Commentator 2: " you're somewhat right, but I have to say the stakes here are high, if Team dynamo defeat Spartans they not only qualify but completely go over the moon with world, defeated the champions and kicking them out of the competition"

Commentator 1: "And if they fail they are forgotten forever…hahah… I'd hate to be Team dynamo right now"

Commentator 2: " we spokes to the coaches earlier, Team dynamo coach seemed very confident and urged us to keep our eyes on their key striker Jackie storm and that is exactly what we will do."

Commentator 1: "Seems like the captains are about to exchange flags and coin toss for who gets to start this game"

As we all stretched and got to our positions Kevin went to meet Mazumba, Spartans Goal keeper and Captain. Kevin carrying our flag, his chest pumped walked towards Mazumba as Mazumba did the same. Mazumba wore a long sleeved jersey, a blend of grey and purple. He Light purple hair of medium length and wore a head band. He hand ruminants of a full beard must have shaved not too long ago. We walked with purpose his eyes dull, devoid of excitement.

They meant each other at the middle, exchanged a few words I couldn't quite make out and handed each other the flags. The coin was tossed and we all waited for to hear who would be starting first.

Commentator 1: "It's just in Team dynamo will be kicking things off today"

Commentator 2: "Personally I'm very excited to see how things play out, team dynamo is going with a 4-3-2-1 formation striking a good balance between defence and attack"

Commentator 1: "The Spartans are starting off with their signature 4-4-2 diamond formation, no introductions needed"

Commentator 2: "It's time for the kick off, Jackie storm is starting us off."

Commentator 1: "This is Brain O'Neil and Steward Braxton, and we are bring to you the qualifying match to the clash of champion's league here in Jericho square garden."

I wondered what the commentary might sound like right now, as I carries the ball over to the centre. I took a moment to feel the ball in my hands, my fingers brushing against its hard texture. I gently placed it down and stared right at Spartans goal. We were all in position. The looks on the Spartans faces resembled pity, it disgusted me. I looked over to my team mates once more and nodded my head in respect.

The referee came up to me, making sure the ball is in place. Then he raised his hand. My senses tightened and my heart accelerated. I could feel the air leaving my lungs and returning only when he blew the whistle.

When the whistle blew the crowd roared almost rapturing my ear drums. But I muted them out and passed the ball to Ashford to kick things off. He tried to move push forward but Spartan's number 7 blocked him with surgical precision. The only thing he could do was pass it back to our defenders of which he did. But it was intercepted by Chief Spartans number 10.

He gave off a quirky smile and it was like only a second passed and somehow Chief, Mungonyinga and lombe were one and one with the goal keeper.

Frost: "argh… Already? (At this rate that ball is going in)"

Chief: "Hey can you save this?"

Frost: "huh?"

Commentator 1: "the ground is going ballistic urging chief to go for gold!"

Commentator 2: "He shoots!"

I saw it from a distant, a shot so clean. It was like a blade horned by years of grease. My heart stopped, the ball was going right for the top right conner.

Commentator 1: "And! He!"

A large gasp went across the crowd silencing them as the ball richosched back to the centre of the pitch. I jumped up trapping it in my chest.

Commentator 2: "What a magnificent save! Definitely one for the record books. How do you save one that close to goal?"

To my surprise the crowd's roars turned to boos. I couldn't make sense of it. Why would they boo? Especially after frost's UN saveable save… That's when it hit me. We weren't just up against the Spartans. We were up against the world. I grinded with excitement, I felt so alive. The only thought ringing threw my head is how I…we… were going to shatter their expectations. I charged forward pushing on the attack. "They want see us fall huh...let's give them something to remember" I muttered.

Commentator 1: " Ohh!… and just when Jackie was on the break he was cut out by the Spartans."

Commentator 2: "This match just started and the intensity is felt all the way up here I can only imagine what's going on the pitch."

Kevin: "Kelly! Ashford! Mark your man"

Both: "Right"

{Coach}

25 minutes in… and we have zero shots on target. Spartans have 5. Worst part they are holding back.

But that will be their down fall.

We haven't played much in their half but we've kept a decent amount of possession in our own half. Hmmm… Honestly I'm impressed, it's only a matter of time before the crowd gives these kids their flowers. Kelly on the other hard isn't playing to expectations, it's clear I need jere. Hopefully his learnt his lesson, otherwise it would be pointless putting him in there.

"Coach?... you look deep in thought" Monica said. As she sat at the bench beside me, tablet in hand.

Coach: "Just weighing whether we need to shake things up a bit"

Monica: "…chuckles… well that's your job. Pardon my intrusion"

Coach: "Oh no no no… you did good. I was getting ahead of myself… that reminds we have another job today."

Monica: "oh yes, Picking a permanent captain?"

Coach: "that's right, Kevin or Jackie. But for now let's focus on the match"

{Jackie}

It was now time for a throw in. I was exhausted, almost unable to hear my own thoughts over my breath. I starred at the big monitor. "Really 30 mins in?" I thought to myself. "I was sure we were in overtime already."

"Yo Storm!" someone cried out.

My eyes snapped at the call of my name. It was junior his afro dancing with the wind. He was taking the throw in and threw the ball towards me. Noble, Spartans number 8 was about to intercept but I wasn't going to let that happen. It was time to make some noise on the other side of the pitch. Swiftly I trapped the ball with the front of my heel and flicked the ball over noble. In that moment we met eyes for a moment, his eyes narrowed. I reclaimed the ball and immediately crossed over to Kelly who lost the ball to Spartans Number 7 but luckily our number 8 was able to regain possession.

Jackie: "Alright! Take it forward!"

Using one touch passes, the ball moved across the pitch in our possession. Finally the ball returned to me. Behind the defence and one on one with their goal keeper Mazumba. He stood there, UN bothered. His arms crossed and his eyes dull. Without hesitation I cranked my leg back ready to unleash my might on the ball.

Commentator 1: "One on one with the goal keeper"

Commentator 2: "The crowd is numb, Will he score?"

I glanced at Mazumba, as i pushed my leg forward to shoot the ball. Mazumba slowly lowered his arms. Then I passed the ball behind me and kevin hit the ball with murderous intent. It sky rocketed towards the cross bar boucing back into the box. Ashford shot from the rebound but sadly it went over the bar. The crowd erupted with joy.

Commentator 1: "Just as I expected the armatures couldn't keep composure. Wasting away such an amazing play."

Commentator 2: "As much as it pains me, you're absolutely right. He checks his man, passes it with precision but under the pressure they couldn't help but fold. Kevin goes hits the crossbar and Ashfold couldn't capitalise on the rebound. Surely they must have scored from there"

My heart ached like a spear piercing through, for a moment I thought we had finally hit the back of the net. Perhaps if I had just went for goal I would have scored. "No I would never have scored that was our best move" I thought to myself, shaking away any doubt. At least we now have not one but two shots at goal. I can feel it we are getting closer. Before I run back to position I glanced at Mazumba. He simply fold his hands, and let out a low grunt. I could feel his Ego all over, it's like he wore pride like a coat. I shook my head and run to position.

Monica: "That was really exciting… the boys really are pushing themselves."

Coach: "They really are…aren't they?"

Monica: "huh? There is something else isn't there?"

Coach: (holds jaw)

Commentator 1: "2 minutes added time and The Spartans are on the flank"

Commentator 2: "The Spartans have been playing really well, but I have to ask isnt their pace a little slow compared to normal"

Commentator 1: " Of course steward, they don't want to crush the kids dreams, just like any charity match they are gonna test them in the first half put on a decent show for the crowd and demolish them in the second"

Commentator 2: "I don't think I fully agree with you on that but I do agree that second half is gonna be crazy"

Commentator 1: "Oh what's this?"

Marks, Spartans number 7 run was stopped as mason our number 2 stood in his way. Mason was quite short compared to us all and it seemed to strike Marks.

Marks: "hahahhaahhha…."

Marks: "What are you supposed to do huh? I could probably chip ball over you without flicking it. This is ridiculous"

Mason looked completely overwhelmed, he froze in place.

Creed: "Hey!"

Marks: "huh?"

Creed went for the tackle out of nowhere, but marks easily spun with ball, leaving creed sliding into nothing.

Commentator 2: "what a mistimed tackle"

Commentator 1: "mistimed? No it was perfect expect he tried to tackle marks. Known for making fools out of defenders"

Mark: "Oh? If it isn't the elephant in the room."

Mungonyinga: "Marks, stop wasting time. Pass that ball."

Mark grined as he passed the ball to Mungonyinga. Right when Mungonyinga was about to move forward he met Junior.

Junior: " woa woa woa compadre, you got something of mine"

Mungonyinga: "Argh? Get out of my…Gasp"

Commentator 2: "What was that?!"

Mungonyinga: "How could…"

Next thing I see is junior behind him with the ball dashing forward. It felt like a gust of wind had carried the ball off Mungonyinga feet. The crowd was silent.

Junior: "You're all show but no boat, you think you the only ones taking it easy? Ha, just you wait."

As he said that a vein popped out of Mungonyinga skull. He remained there stunned as junior cleared the ball out and the Whistle blew for half time.

The whistle temporarily lifted the weight off our shoulders. Finally a time to regroup. As I jogged towards the bench, I caught something in the left part of my eye. I paused and turned to look. It Was Mungonyinga, standing like a statue in place. Where he had lost the ball to junior. I couldn't believe it, everyone was tired heading towards their benches. Even the crowd started leave for a break but he just stood there like the reaper. Staring at his feet.

I felt uneasy, until I was shaken by a slap on the back. "Storm! We didn't conceive a goal! Not bad Right!"

 "Huh?"

"Oh, kevin. You startled me for a moment there"

Kevin: "…Heh… So gonna talk about how out of it you were in the first half?"

Storm: " Wha…what do you mean?"

Kevin: "Jackie, we are brothers right?"

Storm: "Yes of course but I don't see how…"

Kevin: "And as brothers we know a lot about each other"

Storm: "I don't get what youre trying to…"

Kevin: "Enough jackie clear your head out alright? We need Thee Jackie storm for the next half and not whatever piece of shit I was playing with back their"

I was shocked for a moment there, but I started to see what kevins was talking about. I smiled.

Storm: "Right captain, you can count on me"

Kevin: " Alrighhttt lets go join the rest"

We approached the rest of the team who were taking a breather and enjoying some thirst quenching water. Jere came up to us,

Jere: "How's the match guys? Looks really intense"

Junior: " It's nothing really, youre not missing much"

Creed: "Are you insane!! My legs are shaking. I don't if I go back there. "

Mason: "Right? It feels like a constant battle. Not too add that bad mouthing Marks"

Creed: "About that… im sorry? He was making fun of your height. I tried to rush in to help but I only made a fool out of both of us"

Jere: "really? That's what happened? That's … Unacceptable. If I was there I for sure would have…argh ne…never mind. Atleast junior blocked any futher build up."

Coach: "(So? He still doesn't get it huh…)"

Drayton: "Right! That was so cool."

Junior: "What can I say?... Le show. C'east moi"

Ashford: "Bro what? Is that even English"

Strom: "Its French for ' I am the show'"

Everyone: "Laughter"

Junior: "…(ackwardly)…haha…wait what's funny?"

Everyone: "(laughs louder)"

Kelly: " Dude your're making this worse"

Reyes: "Are we not going to talk about Frosts epic save?! What the hell frost were'd you pull that out from."

Everyone: (chatters) oh yeah…that was awesome…Cmon…so crazy.

Frost folded his arms and looked away trying to avoid eye contact with anyone. He fought his smile but for a second I saw it.

Frost: "Quiet all of you, your pleasantries won't take you anywhere"

Storm: " Cmon Logan, it was a good save. Only wished the crowd treated you better."

Mason: "Oh yeah the crowd's really against us huh? Well much like I expected I guess"

Junior: "That won't last for long… Right Jackie bro?"

Storm: "Right! We are gonna steal their hearts"

Kevin: "I may be captain, but for this half I need you to listen to Jackie. We are gonna follow his play and I know damn well he will usher us to victory"

Kevin: "I better not catch anyone slacking off on the field, you got that!"

Everyone: "Right!"

Coach: "Good to see everyone in good spirits we were worried for a second that we would need kevin to cook up another chessy speech to motivate everyone"

Kevin: "What was that?!"

Monica: "…chuckles… His only joking. It was good speech me kevin. And yes I took a video."

Kevin: "What!? You delete that now…You…Monica you…"

Monica smiled innocently as kevin argued with her. Everyone found it funny and coach just nodded his head as he held his fore head.

Coach: "Anyways this half, expect more ferocity from the Spartans. Jackie.Kevin you too ready?"

Jackie: "I was born for this"

Kevin: "The stars have aligned in our favour"

Kevin: "Alright team Dynamo lets roarrrrrr"

Everyone: " Woooooooo"

Coach: "…hahaha…"

Monica: "Give em hell boys"

Jere: "That's rights guys, end this!"

With that we started making our back to the pitch. But before we got into positions I gathered the team together.

Jackie: "Alright team ears up, we are going to switch things. Leave attack to me and kevin. Rest of you fall back and assume defensive position. Your main objective is to keep possession. We can't risk giving the Spartans freedom. Crowd up the plain field and intercept as much as possible. Especially since they are starting this half. Y'all got that?"

Frost: "Loud and clear. We will display the true art of soccer"

Creed: "you can count on us. Storm. Reyes. It's up to you to finish this"

Kevin: "Enough Talk, to your positions"

Everyone: "Right"

Commentator 1: "we're back for more College soccer, its Brian"

Commentator 2: "And steward"

Commentator 1: "And we are kicking off the second half of what has been an interesting turn of events for the underdog's team dynamo as they play against the Spartans."

Commentator 2: "Question is now that we are in second half, whose gonna get their name on the score sheet to send their team to the international clash of champions"

Jackie: "This is it guys"

Kevin: "Keep composure"

Lombe came to the center ready to kick things off. He placed his foot on the ball as he starred at us.

Lombe: "Team dynamo huh? I don't know if I can say anything about skills but you do have spirit I'll give you that."

Lombe: "You've all got this weird look on your faces, Heh. Can't wait to see what you're hiding."

The Whistle run through the air like a trumpet.

Commentator 1: "And were on."

Commentator 2: "I think it's a good time to take a moment, to talk about Team dynamo current display so far"

Commentator 1: "C'mon steward no one cares about what we should talk about is how"

Commentator 2: "And he shoots!"

Commentator 1: "Oh not a bad save from Logan frost"

Commentator 2: "That's exactly who I wanted to talk about, its clear his been the better goal keeper today."

Commentator 1: "That's true but it has nothing to deal with skill. Spartans goal keeper just hasn't had any pressure. His just having a VIP experience watching the game up close."

Commentator 2: "To be honest I can't help but sense biasness from you brian"

Commentator 1: "I don't know what youre talking about, im just doing my job and my job is to speak facts."

Commentator 2: "Look at that, team dynamo is on the break"

We did it. We survived the first 10 minutes. I glanced at the screen. Seeing the 61 minute mark I knew it was time to set out plane in motion. My teammates were able to move the ball up the pitch. Ashford was now on the fly. He swiftly passed his marker and sent the ball across the field to Reyes on the other side of the pitch. Kevin charges forward on the side lines. I rushed inwards towards the box. It felt exactly like a few days ago.

When kevin and I met up by the school soccer field. It was a warm summer day. I waited an hour for kevin to arrive. And finally I saw him rushing towards me in his gym clothes and a bag by his side.

Jackie: "What took you so long?"

Kevin: "Man… I had to take care of a few things back home. My mom left early, you know how it is"

Jackie: "Yh, your mom is really all about tough love huh? But where's love?"

Kevin: "Was that supposed to be joke?...hahaha… Youre a funny man Jackie. Now then we trying your technique again right?"

Jackie: "yes of course… I know we haven't gotten anywhere in the past few weeks but…"

Kevin put a reassuring hand on my shoulder.

Kevin: "I trust you man. C'mon let's get started."

I paused a bit. It was nice to know that I had his trust. I gave off a gentle smile and nodded. We changed into our gear and got onto the field. I passed the ball the kevin who stood not too far from me.

Kevin: "Ran me through the plan again."

Jackie: "Of course, so mazumba spartans goal keeper mostly won't use his lions gate on us unless he actually feels threatened which to him should seem an impossible"

"So we use that to our advantage. On the 60th mark we will execute ourplay."

"You run up the side lines with ball and then send it high up into the air towards the box. And I will jump up and stike with a bicycle kick."

Kevin: "Oh yeah but youre not gonna hit on target."

Jackie: "Right im going to hit the left end of the ball with the outer side of my foot sending spinning to the right"

Kevin: "It's going to look like it's going to the right end of the goal. Baiting the keeper to dive right"

Jackie: "But actually it's going to hit the right side of the inner box and skyrocket to the top left of the goal."

Kevin: "leaving the keeper unable to react in time, and securing a goal no matter who we are up against"

Kevin: "I just love the tactics you come up with, you're a gift from above"

Jackie: "C'mon Kevin, you can't ignore how illogical it sounds. Worst part this heavily relies on the keep following the ball to the right or else when it bounces to right."

Kevin: "He will catch it I know. But I, just as the rest of the team have learnt. Trust you. You always deliver. You just need to trust in yourself."

Yep, it felt just like back then when we would practice and practice except now there is an actual person in the goal but my eyes obscured him and the other players. Only me and Kevin where present.

Jackie: "Kevin now!"

Kevin: "Here it comes"

Spartan: "huh? Mark Jackie!"

Kevin sent the ball up into the here in my direction.

One of the Spartans defenders came to infront of me. But I jumped over him, upside down ready to hit the ball there was nothing he could do. The ball gracefully came in my misdt on time.

Commentator 1: "His attempting a bicycle kick?"

Commentator 2: "Oh my word if he gets this in."

Coach: " heh…"

Mazumba: "(is he really?)

I felt the crowd go numb again. But it made no difference to me. I shot the ball on point just as planned. The ball drove to the right.

Commentator 2: "Straight for the right conner"

But Mazumba didn't move a muscle, he just stood their arms crossed. Starring me directly in the eyes as though analysing my every move as I descended to the ground.

Mazumba: (I knew it, he would never be able to pull off such a bold move. The ball is going out by the right post)

Kevin: "(He didn't move?)"

Jackie: "(just as planned)"

Then the ball hit the ground and skyrocketed to the top left Conner. Shocking every living being in attendance. The crowd all stood on their feet, all benches from both teams did the same. The referee was frozen. Mazumba's eyes bugled out and like a bullet he drove to the left.

Commentator 1: "It can't be!"

Commentator 2: "And he!"

Jere: "Cmon Jackie!"

Monica: "Please!"

Commentators: "SAVESSSS"

Mazumba was able to catch the ball in both his hands right at the top Conner. Landing on his belly holding the ball. The whole crowd erupted in Spartans triumph. I could feel the ground tremble at their roar. First thing Mazumba did was look me straight in the eye.

Mazumba: "Clever move, Im honeslty impressed. Ive never seen anything like that. I Had I been anyone else that ball would have run passed me."

Mazumba: "You gave me a run for my money, I'll give you that. But tricks don't work twice on me. You just lost any chances of getting passed me. From here on out I'm taking you more seriously storm. Remember that."

Storm: " Hmph…"

I just smiled and started to run back towards my position. Mazumba looked irritated at my smile and Mungonyinga gave me this murderous look I had to shake off. I could feel something crawling up my back. I swear there is something wrong with that guy.

Mazumba threw the ball to his defender and the game was on. I got a chance to be a little closer to kevin.

Kevin: "80!?"

Jackie: "80!"

Commentator 2: " That play was absolutely amazing. The precision, the skill, the composure and the wit tot pull it off. You have to give Dynamo their flowers/"

Commentator 1: "100% right you are steward. Im completely shook. That's definitely in the record books and an amazing save from Mazumba. Storm couldn't have shot it better than that, he just had to up against Spartans number."

Commentator 2: "So you finally see the greatness in this team"

Commentator 1: "wouldn't call it greatness steward, but they have put on a show. Either way nothing the Spartans can't handle."

Jere: " Cmon! I was sure that was going to go. These guys, how is it they were all able to keep such composure. Kevin, Jackie and the rest of the team. I emotions would have been all over the place."

Jere: "…gasp… That's it isn't. (Coach Put me on bench cause he thinks…no…he knows I wouldn't keep my emotions in check. That's right when mason was bullied I wanted to rush in. Had I been on the pitch and did that our mid filed would have been wide open giving Spartans breathing room for the attack.)

Jere: "(come to think of it I gave up hope so many times watching this match and reclaimed. Just watching my team play and push through the crowd, through the Spartans and through whatever negative thoughts all in their heads. Gave me hope every time i had lost it. Jackie, kevin, frost, junior.)

Jere: "(That's the true reason I'm on bench today, coach wanted me to have this bird's eye view of the game. And look at the bigger pitch. I understand it now. How selfish of me. This isn't just about me. It's about our team. My emotions are not just mine but the teams and theirs mine. )"

Coach: "I like that look on your face jere"

Jere: "huh?"

Monica: "Why don't you warm up, coach will be needing you soon"

Jere: "Ri…right!"

Commentator 1: "we've reached the 80th mark, and we've just received some statistics"

Commentator 2: "Team dynamo despite Spartans odds have held up most of possession having 75% while Spartans have the remaining 25%"

Commentator 1: "You heard that right folks that's as insane as steward's mullet getting him a 10/10 latina"

Commentator 2: "Brian? How about we just stick to the game okay?"

Commentator 1: "That's exactly what I'm doing steward Team dynamo played their cards right, smart move keeping the ball away from Spartans no matter what. They have all 11 players taking defensive positions packing the bus even though the game is still nil nil."

I glanced at the screen. Seeing the 82 mark on the screen. I raised my finger and Kevin and the team signalling another change of play. This time I had the whole team rush up the field keeping possession and opening up space for me and Kevin. Just like we rehearsed, kevin had the ball on the side lines once more and crossed it over.

Mazumba: (really? Going for that again? I guess you didn't hid my warning)

This time Mazumba stood with his arms spread out ready to save unlike before. " I guess he really was taking this seriously" I thought to myself as I jumped into the eye upside down ready for another bicycle kick. " Never the less it doesn't matter"

I stroke the ball as hard as I possibly could. A loud silence was felt across the entire stadium.

Mazumba: " (Hmph…I told you tricks don't work twice on me.)"

Mazumba moved to the right ready to intercept the ball before it bounces on the ground.

Commentator 2: "Goal!!!"

To Mazumba's surprise I launched the ball with pin point accuracy into the top left Conner of the net. Mazumba tried to change his movement and jump right. But the fact he moved left first gave the ball all room it needed to hit the back of the net. The crowd was dead silient. It felt like a thousand eyes staring at me patiently. Kevin run up and tackled me. I felt my head hit the ground hard but the adrenaline numbed all the pain.

Kevin: "YOU DID IT, You FREAKING GENIUS!"

Jackie: "I…"

Before I could speak my entire team buried me. They all cheered and screamed. I couldn't even make out what anyone was saying. Though our joy seemed to echo in the silent stadium.

Coach: " Hahahha…right at the 84th minute. Jackie storm, just like you said. Seriously how was I blessed with such a player? Monica. Monica?"

Coach: "Monica???"

Jere: " um…she seems to have passed out coach ill lay her on the bench."

Coach: "Oh my god, jere please grab her some water "

Jere: "Right"

Monica: "hhjsdfhsdjkj"

Coach: "What? Monica?"

Jere: "Here is the water coach"

Monica: "Goal!!!"

Both: "Ahh!!"

Monica: "What a shot. I can't believe it we just got a goal"

Coach: "What in god's name? monica?"

Monica: "Oh thanks for the water…drinks…Sorry about that I have a condition that makes me pass out when my emotions are too higteneded."

Jere: "What?"

Coach: "And you work in the field of soccer how?"

Monica: "Don't worry coach, its nothing to be concerned about"

Coach: "Concerned? Monica? You know what never mind. Jere you switch with Kelly now. Sorry it's this late in the match."

Jere: "Don't worry coach im just happy to play"

Coach: "Go at them son"

I finally got up and started to slowly process everything that just happened. My teammates were so bubbly and moving around me and kevin held my shoulder but I couldn't hear them at all. For some reason in that moment all I could hear was myself. "Storm!" A cold voice stroke me. I turned back. Leaving my teammates. It was mazumba who called on to me. His eyes dull as usual but this time piercing. His eye brows tucked and fists clenched in his arms. His posture gave off silent anger.

Mazumba: "You're no ordinary player. Tell me the truth. Just who are you? What makes you think you deserve to get a ball behind me? Huh?"

Mazumba: "Who do you think you are? Answer me!"

I was stunned for a moment. This anger was not what I expected. It seemed I spiked his ego. No words can describe how joyful I felt. I just giggled at him.

Jackie storm: "I'm a storm mazumba. Jackie storm. Check my name on the score sheet if you ever forget it"

Mazumba: "You enjoy these few seconds while they last your now up against the full might of Spartans united."

Jackie: "I'm counting on it"

I then jogged away to my position. I seemed I stroke a nerve but I would be lying if I said he didn't scare me a little. But I couldn't let him see that side of me. I had to be strong for my team.

Commentator 2: "Brian is out here, lost for words as is everyone in attendance. I don't know when his senses are coming back. Away from that. Team dynamo got an astonishing goal."

Commentator 2: "The play was simply incredible as the whole team pressed forward risking their defence but that didn't matter because they trusted in storm to deliver and they pressed high."

Commentator 2: "They used their first attempt of the bicycle kick to program the keeper and on the next try he simply went for goal. A strategy that fell from the heavens. Jackie Storm. That's the name on the score sheet and will definitely be remembered after this match"

Commentator 2: "Team dynamo has subbed in jere finally letting their number 10 touch the grass. I'm just as curious to see what affect he will have on the match, especially this late in the game. The question is with 6 minutes can Spartans Equalize?"

We were now getting ready for the kick off. 85 minutes on the clock. Lombe was starting us off again. IT was then when I felt an absurd amount of rage emitting from Mungyoninga.

Mungyoninga: "I told all you fools, there is no need to waste your time with this amatures. Go full force from the get go! But no! You wanted to inspire them and entertain the crowd for who the hell knows why!"

Mungyoninga: " It's about time you stop listening to that damn coach and listen to me. I don't care if im not captain! Youre gonna listen to me now! Lombe pass that ball!"

Lombe looked startled. But when the whistle blew, with speed and deadly precision he passed the ball to mungonyinga. And right there, behind the center mark. He hit the back with his back heel spinning the ball in place, in the same motion he cranked his leg back. The ball spun so fast it illuminated gold.

At that moment I run towards our defenders.

Jackie: "His going to!"

Commentator 2: "This is"

Mungonyinga: "Eagle wing!!!!!"

As he hit the ball, two majestic gold eagle wings protruded from both sides of the ball. Like a bullet it sored high above the sky. We could barely see it. Only a gold image of an eagle its claws out, wings spread ready to strike. And just like an eagle it fell towards. Frost, his arms spread out was stuck in a frenzy. Seeing the eagle wing up close completely shook him.

Jere: "NO!"

Creed: " He can't"

Coach: " heh.."

Right at goal I jumped. The ball hit my right shoulder.

Commentator 2: "That's storm?"

Junior: "What is he?"

I only held it for about a second and then it blasted through me straight into the goal. Frost didn't even move or need to move a muscle. I felt immense pain. It was like I was stroke by lighting. I fell to the ground as the crowd erupted in cheer. I held my shoulder I don't if it was my imagination but I swore I dislocated my shoulder.

Commentators: "GOALLL"

My team mates run towards me as the Spartans run toward the crowd to celebrate. I felt like I could barely get up. The grass never felt so comfortable. I could see all my teammate's faces moving around me but once again I muted them out.

It was then that it hit me. Perhaps, I too was selfish? Why is it I muted out my teammates so much as if not caring for their thoughts? I run to the defence thinking I might do better than my team mates. But in the end outcome was the same. I get it now. And with that I UN muted my surroundings and took it all in.

Kevin: "Storm you moron?!"

Mason: "What were you thinking?"

Junior: "C'mon Jackie bro, all that aint necessary"

Jere: "Jackie"

Ashford: "You alright?"

Calder: "we all froze and forced you to move on your own"

Creed: "right, had we had your spirit perhaps together we could have prevented this"

Black: "It hurts to call myself your defender right now?"

Drayton: "Likewise"

Frost: "I'm so sorry, it's my lack of competence that led to this."

Everyone started apologises. No Idea why though, sounded ridiculous.

Kevin: "HEY, you drowning in self-pity again? What the heck? Get your asses out of the way and help Jackie up"

Everyone paused for a moment then they all looked determined and nodded. Junior and creed helped me up. As I got up I was shocked to see coach right in front of me on the pitch.

Jackie: "Coach? What are you?"

Monica: "Are you okay Jackie? I hope you did sustain any major injuries"

Jackie: "No um…figits… (Broken voice)I'm…fine"

Coach: "That was really reckless of you Jackie. You're one of our key players and you just jeopardized yourself and the team. Not only that but you disrespected your team mates roles. What do you have to say for yourself?"

Jackie: "Coach…coughs…I laid myself out there not for myself. But for my team mates. I trust them with my life. And this humble demonstration was to prove that."

Jackie: "To show…that when they think they can't do something. I'll be there. Like a pillar to support…and i…expect them to do the same for me."

Jackie: " So your question is what do I have to say for myself? Well that's easy."

Jackie: " Jere...Mason…creed…black…Junior....drayton…kevin…junior…creed"

Jackie: "…breathes… Ashford…Calder…Miss Monica and even you Coach… I love you all. And it's to the end of the world with you."

Team: "Hell Yeah!!!"

Coach just smiled, crossed his arms and looked at the ref. "thank you for your concern but I will not be subbing out storm his finishing this game with his team. No with his family." He said proudly to the referee who accepted and went on to continue the game.

Monica: "Its 88 on the clock. We don't have much time. Coach I think this is a great time shake things up"

Coach: "you're absolutely right but you're asking the wrong person."

Everyone: …Gasps…

Coach: "Why you all surprised? Jackie whats our play."

When he said that my heart skipped a beat. I didn't even know what to think. But Coach gave me so much trust I couldn't show signs of weakness. Not now. Not ever. I smiled at him. Using juniors shoulder to push myself up on my own two feet.

Jackie: "I've got one last play, but I need every one to help me. Especially you jere. You're the most rested here."

Everyone: Right!

Coach: "Boys, you've kept the crowd speechless all day, now its time to make them scream out their lungs."

Monica: "Show them who you truly are."

We started to move into our positions. I held my shoulder the whole time. I couldn't tell anyone but the pain was killing me inside. Almost un bearable. But right now I had bigger problems. And that's to survive the full might of Spartans in these last few moments. This truly felt like war. After this I know we will not be the same. I asked jere to kick off didn't want to mess up the kick off.

Mungonyinga: "You took my shot head on. GWAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH. You really are something else. What kind of manic does that? Jackie storm huh?"

I was shook yet so glad. I slowly smiled conserving any strength I had left. The whistle cut through the air. I felt it pierce my ear as I let out a breath. Time seemed to slow down. In this final moments I knew, this is where it counts the most.

Jere sent the ball in ashford direction to his top right kicking off the game. With speed Chief was already by the ball ready to intercept like a viper.

Jackie: "Stop him!"

Ashford had no choice but to charge with a tackle, hitting the ball towards me right before chief could take it. I run towards the ball knowing that the Spartans where going to do everything in their power to get the ball. The ball was right in front of him. I laced my leg back a bit, ready to strike it back. Alas, before I could blink the ball was gone. Mungonyinga was already rushing towards our goal with the ball. I felt a lump in my throat, as a rush of fear went through my body. I tried to follow, but like lightening my shoulder erupted in pain. I held it with my right arm as I went on my knee. Like a fallen knight in war.

Commentator 1: " Like a one man army, Mungonyinga is tearing through the mid field and approaching the defence"

Commentator 2: "The crowd is erupting at a chance for goal. 87 on the clock. Could this be the decider?!"

Lombe: "Hey pass!"

Mungonyinga: "I don't need your help!"

Noble: "Hey! Open here"

Mungonyinga: "…Grunts…"

Commentator 1: "His team mates are open but his not passing. His pressing forward all on his own. If he score his teammates will send praises"

Commentator 2: "If he misses he would potentially cost the Spartans any chance of winning this game. I don't know when last I so this much desperation, especially from the Spartans".

Mungonyinga run circle through each player he encountered not deterring from his straight path to goal. Not even passing to his team mates no matter how much they banter. He seemed to have blocked them out. He didn't respond to them. Ignoring their presence all together, fuelled by rage.

Junior was able to get infront of him temporarily slowing him down. As mungonyinga had to stop placing a firm foot on the ball.

Junior: "On se retrouve Mon aime, your bold run ends here, Fo sho"

Mungonyinga let out short bursts of laughs before breaking out into laughter. Junior was be willed. Even for him, that was UN settling.

Mungonyinga: "They call you junior huh?"

In an instant junior was left in the air as mungonyinga dashed passed him, leaving behind an image of a fierce tiger rushing forward beside him.

Mungonyinga: "I guess that's all you will ever be, my junior"

Coach: "Tsk… this isn't looking good"

Monica placed hand on coach's shoulder. Coach was spooked for he bit, but then he embraced relaxing his shoulders and letting out a sigh. Monica gave off an encouraging smile. A smile subtle but warming. Her eyes as though they were smiling too.

Monica: "These are our boys, they will Triumph today."

Coach closes his eyes for a moment. Letting his nerves settle. Before returning the smile to Monica. Then suddenly monica jumped up.

Monica: "OH MY! Mungonyinga is already at he goal!!!!"

Coach was shook, the Monica slowly started to lose balance.

Coach: "Wait what!?"

As coach turned back to the game. He slowly he heard something collapse behind. He closed his eyes as though accepting the situation, slapping his fore head.

Commentator 1: "The crowd is urging him to shoot!"

Commentator 2: "Is this it? Is this the decider?"

Commentator 1: "The whole world is on their feet"

Each and every single one of us one pitch, whether Spartan or dynamo. Our hearts stopped has mungonyinga laced his leg back.

Mungonyinga: "I will not be made a fool! I will not lose to scum like you!"

Frost: " Go ahead! Shoot! That ball's not getting passed me. I will be the greatest goal keeper of all time!"

Mugonyinga: "Here it comes! Devils…gasp…"

In that moment time froze. I heard my heart finally beat again. Then everything unfroze.

Commentator 1: "From out of nowhere!"

Commentator 2: "What a well-timed tackle!"

Coach: "…chuckles… Monica, you ought to wake up. Youre about to miss the birth of something extraordinary."

Jere slide right infront of mungonyinga taking the ball off his feet. It must have felt like dejavu to Spartans striker. Jere gave off a cocky smile as he slid. Mungonyinga was stunned, completely lost for words. A vein popped out of his skull. The crowd gasped in disappointment. Jere quickly got up to his feet. Passed the ball to Mason as he exclaimed on the top of his lungs.

Jere: "Advance!!!!"

Jere's battle cry rallied us all up. The whole entire team pressed forward just like before. It was time for one last dance. Pass by pass the ball moved up to my feet. I started pressing forward slowly. The pain was too distracting. It was like walking deeper into a spear, plunging into my shoulder. I almost slipped letting the ball roll ahead of me. As I held my shoulder. "Jackie c'mon!"Someone exclaimed. It snapped my eyes open, I couldn't even tell who it was. But it sounded like kevin. Never the less for a brief moment all the pain numbed as I charged forwarded getting the ball before Spartans Noble could get it. I chipped the ball over him, and sent he ball towards the voice I had heard.

I almost fell to the ground again, but this time I was caught. It was so unexpected. It felt like I were falling in a dream and then suddenly woke up at my body reacting. I looked up and met a gaze like phoenix. Resurrecting what ever ounce of spirit I had left in me. IT was jere, he held me firmly. Raising me to my feet then he pulled my closer to his face and exclaimed. "I said advance Damint!"

My eyes puzzled for a moment. Stunned at his resolve. Searching his eyes for any sign of doubt. I saw none. I nodded as he left me to stand on my own. " Its like you said earlier, I gotch'a". he run ahead of me. I took a breath, adjusting my shoulder. 89 on the clock. I let myself feel all the pain as I begun to jog forward.

I noticed to every one focussed on kevin. 4 of Spartans players came to mark me. Trying stop any further momentum. The first one almost stood infront of me coming from the left but then junior blocked him. He gave me this cocky look, though it felt like he was urging me to go forward. He just smiled wide and winked.

I increased my pace then another player came to stop me from the right but Calder blocked him. He gave off a gentle smile and nodded at me. Kevin on the other hand was heavily pressured but he blazed through any oppression like a flame. Going into position. "Jackie!" My head snapped forward at my name. It was jere he stood facing me, his had lowered and clasped together ready to give me a boost.

The other two Spartan player's tried to approach but again they were blocked by Ashford and Drayton. Like the others they gave me warm affirmation. It felt like the created some kinda of tunnel. Clear path to jere with the rest of them standing on either end blocking any one from disturbing me. IT was overwhelming my heart couldn't take. But this was no time to get sentimental. With every breath I run faster. With every though I went faster. All I could think about was speed. I constantly told myself "Faster!Faster!Faster!Faster!" as I accelerated towards jere. My comrades all passed warm remarks as I passed by them. I could hear it all, no longer muted. Like a collective cloud.

"Jackie!" , " Let's go!", "Get it", "this is it?!" , " This is your time!" , "Finish it"

Monica: "woooooooo.... goooo Jackie!"

Coach: "you got this jack, my wild card is finally in place"

Kevin: "Here it comes!"

Kevin sent the ball soaring through the air like a wild bull. I stepped on jere hands, as for a moment our eyes met face to face. Both sharing the same spark in our eyes. The crowd one by one like a wave started getting on their feet in silence. It was in that moment that I remembered my dad. I was 7 when I caught him watching soccer in the leaving room. Then at my sight he quickly changed the channel.

"Dad? Why'd you change the channel?"

"Its…Its nothing Jackie, go do your homework"

"But im tired, I want to play outside"

"If youre tired then you'd rather sleep than play outside huh?"

"But Daaad? I just want to play soccer. Im tired of studying"

"Jackie! How many times do I have to tell you? Soccer is not going to do anything for you. Focus on your studies that's what will shape your future"

"Grand pa says I can shape my own future, even without studies."

"Well your Grand pa is a fool living in an elderly home. Had he forsaken his delusions of rising through the soccer world?"

At that though jere boosting me into the air. The ground rippled like a stone skipped on water. A Massive wall of water rose behind me as I ascended into the air turning back for the bicycle kick.

Commentator 1: "Dear god"

Commentator 2: "What's this magnificent play? The crowd is locked in silence"

My memory continued.

Dad: "And tearing through records like a…"

And with that I stole the ball with all my might and exclaimed.

Jackie: "TSUNAMI!!!!!"

The Wall of water behind me shatterd, blinding all those in proximity. A giant water tide sent the ball spiralling towards the goal.

Commentator 1: "What a shot! Jackie Storm just obliterated the pitch!"

Commentator 2: "This has to be it!"

Mungonyinga: "What the hell!!!!"

Marks: "Just who is this guy?"

Mazumba: "( That technique? Is this what he had packed up all this time?)

Mazumba: "(No matter, nothing can get through)"

Mazumba: "LIONS GATE!"

With that Mazumba Took a stance with his feet split wide, His arms angled firmly. A Crimson Red Gate rose from the ground in front of him shielding the goal.

Commentator 1: "There it is finally, the impenetrable lion's gate!"

Commentator 2: "No shot has ever gotten through, could this be the day!"

The ball hit the gate. The gate was blown apart in an instant. The stadium echoed in a silent scream. Mazumba's eyes came out of his head. The spiral of water reflecting in his eyes. But his stance didn't deteriorate.

Mazumba: "The Lions gate was only secondary defense! The Primary was always the lion!"

Mazumba stretched his arms towards the ball and held it Splining in both his arms. A lion's Head with a full royal red main manifested as if engulfing him catching the ball in its teeth. But the ball still persisted. It spun uncontrollably in its mouth. Mazumba slowly started to be dragged back by the sheer force of the Tsunami. A manifestation of the storm that is Jackie.

Commentator 1: "In all my years never have I ever!"

Coach: "(C'mon, score)"

Monica: "Co…coach?"

 Monica finally got up.

Coach: "right on time, would you look at that"

Monica: "AH!?"

 Then she passed out again.

Coach: "you've to be kidding me"

Mazumba: " No No No No No!"

Mazumba: " grrrrrrgh!"

Mazumba: "I must. I Have to…urgh…IT must!"

Jere and kevin: "GO IN!"

Mazumba couldn't believe his eyes. He saw Kevin on the right and jere on the left both in the motion of striking the ball together. His eyes drifted from Kevin to jere. Then to me who was falling on to the ground straight ahead of him. He just closed his eyes. And when Kevin and jere kicked the ball it skyrocketed right into the back of the net, dispensing the image of the lion like a shot gun to a balloon.

The crowd was all on their feet but still trapped in silence. My body was numb with adrenaline. I could barely feel my back hit the grass. The team erupted in joy while the Spartans stood in place just as puzzled as the crowd. I couldn't worry about anything in that moment. I felt like I had been carrying so much weight on my back and finally someone took it off. Once again my back to the ground I stretched my hand to the sky as though reaching out for the heavens. Then I clenched a fist. I gasped for air on the ground as Kevin, jere and the rest of the team rushed towards me. I could see coach oddly jumping around the bench. And Monica's lifeless body on the bench.

Creed pulled me up on to his shoulder and raised me up. I felt the sun light shine on me in the process. My eyes snapped at a sight of a familiar face in the crowd. I could see cyan hair similar to mine. I squinted my eyes. To my surprise it was my Dad. My Dad here in the stadium of all places. I couldn't speak. My mouth opened wide and so did my eyes. We met eyes. I couldn't see too well from the pitch but he raised a fist. I was compelled to do so as well. And then he broke the silence. Like a Ship sounding its horn.

"GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL"

His voiced echoed for a second and then it was followed by a thunderous cheer and applause from the crowd. They screamed their lungs out once again shaking the ground. We couldn't believe it. We slowly turned to all parts of the crowd taking in their cheers. Smiles run free amongst us, it was an odd feeling to have such a crowd cheer for us. Especially as initially, they didn't seem to care for us. It felt like hard earned cheers.

Monica: "Coach Are you.... crying?"

Coach: "Huh?...coughs… don't be foolish monica. Im just…sweating"

Coach: "Wait a minute! What time did you get up?"

Monica: "Just when the ball hit the net"

Coach: "So you saw…"

Monica: "you Jump around like a little kid? Yep. And I enjoyed every second"

Coach: "Tsk… not a word about this okay"

Monica: "we'll see about that…giggles…"

Coach: (Holds tempo)

Monica: "C'mon lets go join the boys"

Coach: "No let them be. This… This is their hard earned moment."

Monica: "Coach…C'mon, don't be so uptight (dragging him towards the team)"

I turned to my face my dad one more time. My heart started to melt as tears fell from my eyes. He slowly nodded his head. And I best into tears. " STORM! STORM! STORM! STORM!" the crowd cheered. I couldn't believe it. It felt like I was hit with electricity. It was just as I had imagined when I was younger. Except this time my dad is here to hear it with me. Our Name being exclaimed on a grand stage.

Kevin: " You here that?"

Jere: "Loud and clear"

Frost: "well then…why don't we join them"

Everyone: Yeahhhh

Everyone: STORM! STORM! STORM! STORM!

Coach and Monica joined us. Monica joining in the cheers but coach only stood aside clapping his hands.

Commentator 2: " Do you hear that brain? There is a storm brewing in the crowd"

Comentator1: "…(emotional)…Ste…ward?"

Commentator 2: " Brain?"

Commentator 1: "…cries… This…right here I why I love football"

Commentator 2: "Not just you Brian. All of us…all of us buddy"

Commentator 1: "Right…on the 90th …minute mark…Team dynamo…Cements their names in history."

Commentator 2: "Not just scoring the goal to put them on top, but showing the veterans. That they may be stronger. They may be faster. But that means nothing when it's up against their sprit and companionship"

Commentator 1: "In that department, team dynamo washed the Spartans. Wining everyone's hearts today. And wining the match."

Commentator 2: "The final whistle has rung. The whole world has been put on notice."

Commentator 1: "Team dynamo played their cards right, pressing forward relentlessly. Clearing way for Jackie to position himself to execute a technique like no other. It can only be described by words as Phenomenal. Right here in Jericho square garden."

Commentator 2: "Spartans put on a ferocious fight in the last minutes of the game, but sadly even that was not enough to triumph over team dynamo."

Commentator 1: "Just like the name suggests, once on player's spark has been lit. The rest follow suite. All eyes are on Jackie Storm for his Brilliant display of talent today."

Commentator 2: "His name is on the score sheet not once but twice. Ending this game with a brass. Truly a magnificent player."

Commentator 1: "His not the only one who shinned today though. the team as a whole put on a spectacular display. Frost with 6 saves, Kevin with 2 assists which both led to a goal, jere with an assist and a show stopper tackle preventing Spartan's from taking lead."

Commentator 2: "IT just like you said earlier Brain, what an incredible day for football."

Commentator 1: "Team dynamo has done it. They have defeated last year's champions, kicked the doubters in the face and are now heading to the showcase of the immortals."

Both: "The clash of champion's league"

Commentator 1: "My name is brain O'neal"

Commentator 2: "And mine Steward Braxton"

Both: "And we thank you all for joining us today"

Commentator 1: "For what was nothing short of a Master piece"

Commentator 2: "Many Questions linger on after today. How will Team dynamo fair in the league? Where do their stories go from here? What will become of Jackie storm and his comrades in the next few months? How will the spartans react publicly to this loss?"

Commentator 1: "Only time can tell. And you can stay in touch with Sporty news as we keep you update with everything pro soccer"

Commentator 2: "Thank you again and good night!"
