Chapter 40 - Chapter 40

At dinner, the four of them sat around the dining table.

By now, Jahy had changed into some clothes that Tanaka's mother used to wear.

Although they were still a little big, they were much better than wearing Tanaka Masao's clothes.

Looking at the cute Jahy, Tanaka's mother grew fond of her right away. Worried she might feel awkward since it was her first day, she reassured her gently:

"Jahy, just treat this place as your own home. Don't feel restrained. If you have any difficulties, just tell me."

"Yeah~"

Jahy nodded while eating, showing she understood.

Seeing this, Tanaka's mother smiled warmly.

But what she didn't know was that Jahy had never been a well-behaved child.

The little girl she saw as a "sweet treasure" would one day turn into a mischievous headache.

······

After dinner, the Tanaka couple went out to buy some daily necessities for Jahy and picked up two sets of clothes for her as well.

It was really too shabby to let her wear nothing but an oversized shirt every day.

Jahy lounged on the sofa in a practiced lazy posture, legs crossed, rubbing her slightly full belly.

"The food tastes okay. Barely enough for my temporary base."

She turned to Tanaka Masao and ordered:

"Masao, go run me a bath. I want to soak."

"Hey, I'm not your slave. Don't order me around."

Tanaka Masao, who had just eaten, didn't want to move at all.

Even if he did, he wouldn't let Jahy boss him around.

But Jahy spoke confidently:

"Kuku, before Kazumi and Kenji went out, they told you to take good care of me. What do you think will happen if they come back and find out I wanted a bath but couldn't?"

Kazumi was the name of Tanaka Masao's mother, and Kenji was his father.

Although the couple treated Jahy like a daughter, she was actually older than the two of them combined.

So of course, she didn't want to call them "Mom" and "Dad," or even "Uncle" and "Aunt." Instead, she simply called them by their names.

The Tanaka couple didn't mind at all. They even thought it made things feel closer.

But hearing Jahy use his parents to pressure him made Tanaka Masao a little annoyed.

"Damn it, using that trick on me… but remember, it'll only work in the beginning. Once you're familiar with this house, it won't work anymore."

Though unhappy, Tanaka Masao still went to the bathroom to prepare a bath for Jahy.

After all, she had just moved in.

"Yeah, very good."

Watching him head to the bathroom, Jahy was quite satisfied.

"This is called life."

A while later, Tanaka Masao came back and said:

"The bath water's ready. Go quickly, and remember to wash yourself before soaking."

"I know, I know."

Jahy replied casually. She knew that much.

She took off her clothes and entered the bathroom. Shaking her head, she muttered with disdain:

"What a simple bathroom."

She picked up the shower head and turned it on.

"It's so cold!"

The sudden icy water made Jahy shiver, and she quickly moved the shower head away.

"What the hell…"

She tested the water with her small hand. Feeling the temperature slowly rise, she finally relaxed.

"Phew… I thought humans all took cold showers."

After rinsing her body, Jahy glanced at the bottles and jars lined up in the bathroom.

Earlier, Tanaka Masao had mentioned there were plenty of cleaning products.

Shampoo, body wash…

"This one's for hair. Smells good."

Jahy picked up the shampoo, poured some into her palm, sniffed it, then rubbed it into her wet hair.

"Oh! Rub your hands together and all this white stuff appears. Amazing!"

Finding it fun, she poured more into her hair and rubbed out even more foam.

But she didn't notice the suds sliding down her forehead until they reached her eyes.

"Ah! My eyes, my eyes!"

Suddenly, it felt like her eyes were on fire, and she screamed.

She fumbled for the shower and turned it on, but with her eyes shut she twisted the knob too far, sending out boiling hot water.

"Ah! So hot, too hot!"

Jahy jumped back in panic, yelling:

"Masao! Masao, come save me!"

In the living room, Tanaka Masao heard the noise and walked over.

He called through the bathroom door: "What's wrong?"

"My eyes! I can't see—come help me! Shampoo got in my eyes!"

Given her state, Tanaka Masao didn't hesitate about gender differences. He pushed open the door and stepped inside.

He found Jahy covered in white foam, wailing and clutching her eyes.

Glancing at the shower knob set to maximum heat, he quickly understood the situation.

"Don't move. Hold on, I'll fix it right away."

Hearing this, Jahy froze, enduring the pain. Soon, cool water rushed over her face, bringing instant relief.

The stream washed away the foam, and she finally dared to open her eyes.

Though still red and stinging, she could at least see again.

Taking the showerhead from Tanaka Masao, she rinsed her eyes carefully for a full minute before recovering.

"I'm alive…"

With eyes still red, Jahy sighed in relief and complained to Tanaka Masao:

"How can you humans use such dangerous things to clean your hair?"

"You just didn't know how to use it. You're supposed to close your eyes," Tanaka Masao explained. "And shampoo makes your hair cleaner. Not only does it smell nice afterward, it also makes your hair smooth."

"Is it really as good as you say?"

Jahy was doubtful.

"Then you wash it for me."

She wanted to try again, but after the painful experience, she didn't dare do it herself. So she asked Tanaka.

"Me?"

Tanaka pointed at himself, uncertain.

By then, Jahy had already sat down on the bathroom bench and urged him:

"Of course! Hurry up."

Looking at Jahy's small back, Tanaka Masao swallowed hard.

"Well… alright then."
