Chapter 39 - Chapter 39

The Tanaka couple looked up and saw a cute little girl with dark skin and purple hair.

At this moment, Jahy had already changed out of her shabby clothes and was wearing one of Tanaka Masao's old shirts.

It was a shirt he used to wear back in junior high. Though it was a little small for him now, when Jahy wore it, it still draped all the way down to her knees.

As for what she wore underneath—Tanaka Masao simply didn't have any clothes suitable for her.

But Jahy didn't care at all. She boldly went without a bra.

Seeing her suddenly appear like this, Tanaka's parents froze in shock.

The very next second, Tanaka's father hurriedly shut and locked the door, while Tanaka's mother seized Tanaka Masao by the ear and scolded furiously:

"Masao! How could you do this? This is illegal! Don't slip up. Don't let anyone find out."

After that short burst of chaos, the household finally settled down.

All four of them sat together on the sofa in the living room. Tanaka's father asked:

"So, you're telling us this little girl is a poor homeless child you decided to bring back?"

Tanaka Masao nodded. "Yes, that's it."

This was the excuse he had prepared—Jahy was just a street kid he picked up.

And in truth, it wasn't that different from reality.

Tanaka's mother let out a long breath of relief. "That's good. I thought you'd done something terrible."

Then, turning her gaze toward Jahy, she asked curiously:

"Such a lovely child… is she really an orphan? Did she run away from home? Masao, did you ask at the police station?"

Tanaka Masao answered with confidence. "I went to the police station to check. There's no household registration information on her."

Hearing this, the Tanaka couple didn't question it too much.

Even though society is stable now and there are welfare institutions like orphanages, there are still always one or two children who've wandered around for years without ever being registered.

Jahy was adorable, and with her "tragic" backstory, she easily stirred sympathy.

Tanaka's mother gazed at her with soft pity. She stepped closer, gently stroked Jahy's head, and said kindly:

"You must have gone through so much. No wonder your skin has darkened."

But Jahy stiffened immediately.

She, Jahy, second-in-command of the Demon World, being patted on the head by a mere human? Unacceptable!

She was about to explode—until she caught sight of Tanaka Masao frantically winking at her.

His expression was clear: Bear with it, or everything will fall apart.

Grinding her teeth, Jahy clenched her little fists and closed her eyes, swallowing her pride.

Tanaka's mother misread her reaction, assuming Jahy was simply holding back tears, too sad to cry.

At that moment, Tanaka's father spoke up again.

"Masao, now that you've brought her here, what are you planning to do with her?"

"I want to take her in."

Tanaka Masao gave the answer he had already decided on.

The couple exchanged a glance, then nodded together.

Tanaka's father said, "I don't object."

Tanaka's mother added warmly, "I've always wanted a daughter. Jahy, isn't it? Would you like to stay and live with us?"

Having endured that humiliating head pat, Jahy now felt her goal had been achieved.

Since you're giving me a place to stay, I'll forgive you for touching my head.

She nodded. "I do."

The Tanaka couple lit up with joy, delighted to suddenly have such a sweet daughter.

Tanaka's mother smiled. "I'll go prepare dinner."

Tanaka's father stood. "I'll clean up a room and handle the settlement paperwork. Masao, you look after Jahy."

The two bustled off, leaving only Tanaka Masao and Jahy in the living room.

Jahy flopped onto the sofa, looking like someone who had just spent all her strength.

"Finally… it's over. I'm exhausted."

"Hey, you barely did anything, and you hardly even spoke. How can you be tired?"

Watching her, Tanaka Masao couldn't help thinking that this so-called second-in-command of the Demon World seemed awfully fragile.

"What do you know!" Jahy shot back, waving her tiny fist.

"It's because I didn't do anything that I'm tired! Do you know how hard it is to hold back, to keep from exploding, just to play along?"

"I don't," Tanaka Masao said flatly, not indulging her at all. He sat down on the sofa beside her.

"Anyway, you're settled now. Over the next few days, we'll get you an identity certificate and the rest."

"An identity certificate? Why would I need a human identity?"

"You're living in the human world. Of course it's more convenient to have one. You'll need it for things like traveling, or even just buying something.

Besides, you want to search for magic stones. What if they're far away? Are you planning to walk all that distance?"

Hearing this, Jahy went quiet. She decided it was best to cooperate and get the certificate.

If she still had enough magic, she could have flown to search for the stones. But now she barely had enough to maintain her human form, let alone fly.

Her gaze drifted to Tanaka Masao's chest.

"You've got a mecha, don't you? Lend it to me. I'll give it back once I've found the stones."

As soon as she reached out her small hand, Tanaka Masao slapped it away without hesitation.

"How dare you! That's my treasure. There's no way I'd hand it over to you."

Jahy pulled her hand back, blowing on it where it stung. Her tone was full of resentment.

"Fine, don't give it to me. But did you have to hit me?"

Though she complained, her eyes never left his chest.

Her senses were sharp. She could clearly feel that something there contained a powerful energy.

But it wasn't magic, so she couldn't absorb it.

She guessed it was the energy system of Tanaka Masao's armor. With such a strong power source, the armor must be formidable.

If she had that armor, she could collect the magic stones in no time.

I'll just have to steal it while he's bathing… or asleep.

Jahy began plotting silently. As for what might happen if she got caught—

Lord Jahy had never considered such a thing.
