Ash stared at the paper with indifference, but he really couldn't complain, considering he had only just registered Aisha as an adventurer. It was only normal that their adventurer's rank would start from D.
Actually, in this sense Aisha was quite lucky; most started from E ranks.
He sighed.
And without saying a word, he walked away, Aisha quickly trailing behind him.
Watching the man excuse himself, the receptionist suddenly gave out a sigh that could be heard across the room.
"How can a guy that hot be that scary?" she blurted out; soon her gaze softened, "A gold-ranked slave. I sure hope they don't end up having their eyes on him."
…
Outside the guild, Ash and Aisha were already making their way towards the location of their quest.
It was located at the south side of the city, where the river leading outside the city was, along with the forest that stretched all around Forgino.
Many merchants usually make use of this route mainly because it was easy to reach any other part of the city through here. It was actually a well-known shortcut for travelers and merchants.
As they walked, Ash looked at the system screen in front of him, his arms folded in the process.
[Magic shop.]

'So it's just like a game. If I want stronger items, I just need to grow strong myself. However, in this case…'
He glanced at Aisha, who was looking around nervously, as if scared someone was going to pounce on her from nowhere.
'She is the strength I need to access these things.'
Ash wasted no time before he turned his gaze back to the system.
Tap.
He clicked on an option.

[A new item has been added to your inventory.]
[Jimo sword.]
Upon seeing the message, Ash stretched his hand to the side, pulling out a purple blade from the dark portal that appeared beside him.
As he held the blade, he could feel a small rush of power surge into his body. This was mostly due to the effect of the blade.
The sword looked well-crafted as well. However, swords were not his taste in weapons.
He suddenly stretched the blade toward Aisha.
"Here, hold on to it."
They suddenly stopped walking. At this point, there were no more crowds around, and only a small number of people still roamed the area.
Yes, they had gotten to the outskirts of the first street and were now closer to their targeted location.
Aisha stared at the blade for a while, clearly confused as to why Ash was handing her a blade.
She gulped nervously before taking it from him.
Her eyes were lowered the entire time. However, the moment she raised her head to look her master in the eye to utter the word 'Thank you,' she was instantly terrified at the sheer pressure she got from his gaze.
His next words only further solidified this.
"Keep that sword well, because you will be using it to fight alongside me."
"F-fight?" she stuttered.
How could someone like her possibly fight? She was so thin and looked way too malnourished. A single wing would be all she needed to greet God at the front door.
"What? Did you think you were going to eat and sleep with my funds without doing anything? If you think you can do it yourself, then be my guest, but if you are going to eat food like the buns you had today, then you need to work for it." Ash glared a bit. "Nothing comes free in this world, neither will I force you to make a choice."
"I'll do it!" Aisha shouted desperately. "Please don't abandon me; I'll do it. I'll fight."
Ash was caught off guard by her outburst, so much so his tough-guy persona almost slipped.
Quickly catching himself, he looked away, his focus back on the system.
'That's right. She needs to be stronger; there is no other way than to fight. Morals be damned.'
He clicked on the screen.
