The woman in question had short blonde hair, covering one side of her face while exposing her red earrings on the other side.
Upon raising her head, she was shocked to see the face staring back at her.
Her face turned red for a while, clearing her throat and straightening herself up before she responded.
"Yes, what can I do for you, sir? You say you want to register as an adventurer?"
The sounds of more adventurers entering the building echoed, getting louder and louder with each passing moment.
But Ash avoided it all, of course. Giving his response with a straight face.
"Not me exactly. She is."
He pointed at Aisha.
The receptionist was confused, as she could not see who he was referring to, not until she had to fully lower her gaze. It wasn't until then that she saw Aisha, who was hiding right behind Ash.
At first, Ash could see the look of doubt play on the woman's face, probably because she saw Aisha as a child and not fit to fight monsters.
However, when she spotted the long ears on her, identifying her as an elf, she quickly understood Aisha had to be a slave.
"Sure thing. Please come with me." The receptionist moved to the other side of the counter.
Ash found this disgusting, but what could he possibly say? It was how the world operated.
He and Aisha followed the woman to the other side, where a large mirror was hung on the wall.
Stepping to the side, the receptionist lectured.
"All she has to do is pour her mana into this glass, and the mirror will do the rest."
"Understood." Ash glanced at Aisha with his usual frown. "Go."
With a shaky expression, Aisha wandered forward, her face still slightly covered under the dark cloak she had on.
Upon reaching the mirror, she slowly raised her hand and pressed it against its face.
From the very back, Ash could see as the mirror lit up a golden hue, bright enough to almost completely cover his vision.
He had never been to the adventurer's guild for an evaluation; as such, he was unsure as to how these things went.
If he was registering as an adventurer, then he would have surely asked more questions. But seeing as his wanted posters and name were scattered all around the city, he could not risk it.
Why would there be wanted posters of a dead man? Ash wondered the exact same thing.
Suddenly a voice erupted from the receptionist's mouth—
"Gold?! T-that is impressive!" she yelled.
Aisha looked at the woman, all confused.
'Gold? I think I have heard of this before.' Ash watched as the woman panicked for a bit before she slightly bowed to be excused.
Gold rank.
In this world, there are multiple classes. Fighter class, knight class, mage class, white mage class, scout class, and lastly, the tamer class.
Many people are born with a class, having latent talents befitting each of these classes. However, at the same time they are born with one of these ranks: Iron rank, Bronze rank, silver rank, gold rank or Mithril rank.
Each of these ranks determines the type of talents and skills a person can have.
That said, from the gold rank upward, individuals would often awaken a special category called "jobs," a different title born from their classes and often giving them immense powers in return.
In other words, these people were considered the best of the best, having equal strengths to the special classes.
"Please wait here. I-let me get your adventurer's card," the receptionist uttered, sprinting away all flustered.
As she got further away, Ash looked at Aisha.
He may have gotten himself a rare prodigy.
…
After a while of waiting in front of the counter, the receptionist finally showed herself.
Though she tried, the nervous look on her face was not something she could so easily hide, at least not when Ash's eyes were solely fixed on her.
Making her way outside the counter, she moved closer towards Ash and handed him a green plastic card.
"Here you go, this is her adventurer's card. You don't need to pay any fee. The guild has ordered for payment to stop for now."
Before grabbing the card from her, Ash asked out of suspicion.
"Why?"
His question hung in the air for a short while.
"There has been a decrease in adventurers lately because of the S-ranked dungeon that appeared at the borders. Many of them have gone there in hopes of killing a high-grade beast and rising the ranks quickly."
It was true that the higher your adventure rank, the more opportunities for jobs and so on would await you.
Not that Ash himself cared about any of that nonsense.
He grabbed the card from the woman.
"I'd like a quest while you're at it."
"Right, I understand; please wait here."
So he did. Once again he waited for the woman to head back to her counter.
Although, this time around, she was quick to respond to him.
"Here you go, a D-rank quest suitable for your adventurer's rank," the receptionist uttered, stretching a sheet of paper from the counter.
Ash took a few steps forward to take the paper and then lowered his head to read what it contained.
(Quest: Slimes have infested the edge of the forest and are causing major inconvenience for travelers taking that route; clear the slimes in the area before they continue to reproduce.
Reward: 60 eres.)
