Chapter 189: Meeting of Two Girls, Supergirl and Spider-Woman!
Earlier, in a courtyard inside the school.
A pair of plump snow rabbits looked weak and helpless. Under the cruel oppression of student hunters chasing them, their bodies trembled and curled tightly, rolling over in the grass to reveal their soft, tender white bellies…
…
At the school gate, outside.
"Not leaving yet?"
Xi Nian, already sitting in the front passenger seat of the modified car, tapped the window and asked the one-eyed black man standing outside in a daze.
Nick Fury didn't know what to say. The other party had agreed so easily, it almost made him feel like a fool.
His dark face remained expressionless as he got back into the driver's seat. The modified car started up and drove away smoothly.
The vehicle steadily left the high school grounds.
…
Meanwhile, on the rooftop of the school building.
Two beautiful girls in uniform skirts stood face-to-face. The high, cold wind blew across the rooftop, tossing platinum-blonde hair and short golden locks into the air, making their knee-length skirts sway and flutter.
It should have been a beautiful, youthful scene, yet the atmosphere was tense and heavy.
Two strong auras clashed, colliding in subtle pressure that even made the wind around them still.
Like an invisible standoff, until—
Gwen suddenly glanced toward the school gate below. Her delicate face shifted slightly as she said, "Xi Nian was taken away by some strange man…"
"It's fine."
Kara winked playfully, a small smile curving her lips. "Senior has my Kryptonian body—he won't be harmed. Besides, if he willingly got into that car, it means the man isn't a villain."
There was one thing she didn't say—
Even if he was a villain, it didn't matter.
Kara had already memorized Nick Fury's license plate and car model. The moment Xi Nian called for help, she would break the sound barrier and arrive in seconds.
Even though Kara hadn't said this aloud, Gwen understood her meaning. She let out a light scoff. "Yeah, Kryptonians really are something."
She paused, her tone turning cold. "But since you're living here on Earth now, joining human society, you should understand the rule of first come, first served, right?"
"Senior, I did give you the chance."
Kara waved her hand lightly and reminded her, "Remember? You were the one who switched days with me on Saturday and Sunday…"
Gwen frowned. Kara wasn't wrong.
She had indeed made the switch herself. But who would have thought Sunday just happened to be her birthday?
"And another thing."
Kara raised a fair finger thoughtfully. "Even if we hadn't switched days, without me going first, would you and Senior really have crossed that line yesterday? Most likely, it would've just been another ordinary birthday like all the years before."
"You—what are you saying… shameless!"
Gwen blurted angrily, her cheeks flushed crimson. Kara's words were far too blunt.
But she couldn't deny it.
If not for Kara's actions on Saturday pushing things forward, she and Xi Nian might still be stuck as childhood friends, unable to break through that barrier.
So yes, Kara's presence was a catalyst—perhaps even the key to their progress.
But.
That didn't make her feel any better.
Gwen was still upset. Very upset!
It was like guarding a cheesecake for years, finally ready to open it, only to discover the strawberry in the center was already eaten—and someone had licked the cheese topping too…
How could she not care?
Taking a deep breath, Gwen fixed her eyes on Kara. "Even if you were the first, about me and Xi Nian… you don't mind?"
"Saying I don't mind would be a lie."
Kara's blue eyes sparkled like gems, the sunlight gilding her platinum hair with brilliance. She spread her hands in helpless honesty. "But I've thought it through. Because of my Kryptonian body, I can't keep Senior all to myself. And with his special ability, instead of letting random others get involved, wouldn't it be better if it was you?"
Kryptonians were almost all-powerful.
Almost.
But in that one particular area, Kara still felt helpless—her body still remembered too vividly the overwhelming, almost destructive sensation from before.
"Gwen, we're rivals, of course. But in a way, we can also form an alliance."
Kara's eyes softened with sincerity as she spoke plainly.
Gwen was stunned by her direct reasoning, steam practically rising from her forehead. But soon she understood.
Using the cheesecake example again—
The cake was far too big. If she hoarded it alone at home, she couldn't possibly finish it. In the end, not only would it go to waste, but flies and mice might sneak bites as well.
So Kara's idea was to split the cake—she'd take half, and Gwen the other.
That way the cake wasn't wasted, and it stayed out of the hands of greedy outsiders.
"Who wants to ally with you…"
Gwen suddenly thought of something, her face turning red with embarrassment as she snapped, "We'll always be enemies."
Kara smiled. "Of course. I never said we'd split it evenly anyway. One of us will always have more cake than the other. It all depends on your ability."
"Fine."
Gwen nodded. She could agree with that.
"I know you want to be a superhero. You've been working toward it. Coincidentally, so have I." Kara thought for a moment, then suggested, "So why don't we make a competition of it?"
"You mean…" Gwen's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Whoever becomes a superhero first, gets to pick Xi Nian's weekend dates." Kara brushed a strand of platinum hair behind her ear, smiling confidently.
"No problem! But I'm putting holidays on the line too!" Gwen shot back without hesitation.
"Then it's settled." Kara stepped forward, holding out her hand.
Gwen didn't hesitate either, raising her hand to meet hers.
In the golden sunlight, the two girls clasped hands firmly.
No one knew it then—
But this was the beginning of what would later be called the pact of Supergirl and Spider-Woman. Rivalry and cooperation, bound together.
Only, the true core of their "alliance" wasn't nearly as noble or grand as the world would later believe…
…
On the rooftop, a gust of wind blasted outward with force.
Gwen lifted her head, watching as Kara's tiny figure broke the sound barrier and vanished into the sky.
"Kara," Gwen muttered, "you're sharp, calm, and logical… but there's one thing you didn't foresee."
Even if they split the cake between the two of them, it still wasn't the whole cake.
A week has seven days.
Even if weekends belonged to them, five other days still belonged to someone else…
Added together, the other girl's share of the cake might be bigger than both of theirs combined.
