"Party time," Luca announced at the top of his lungs after his feed. A few cheers joined in as some of Alpha Eric's pack members jumped into their cars.
Luca greeted his father before he got into his car.
I don't know why, but I got the feeling that Luca would have preferred Xan not to tag along and from her mind I could feel she knew it.
"Will it be OK if I don't join you after all?" Xan asked Luca.
"Of course," Luca responded almost a bit too happy.
"Drop you at your pack?" Luca questioned.
"At the wolfless," Xan asked. "I will find my way home from there.
"The wolfless? "Why?" Luca questioned what I was thinking.
"I want to go find his sister. If she didn't get captured, she got to choose a pack. Perhaps ps she would like to join my pack since her brother belongs to me," Xan explained.
"You mean belong to me," Luca corrected her putting his car into drive towards the wolfless.
"Same thing," Xan said dismissive.
"How is it the same thing?" Luca challenged.
"Nevermind that. I want to go find her," Xan said instead of explaining, which clearly irritated Luca.
"If she had a choice, she wouldn't pick a pack. "She would choose humans," I informed her.
"Then I hope for her sake she gets captured," Luca said.
I was about to ask what he meant, but then I saw it in Xan's mind.
"What bull shit is that! "So no matter what, we are destined to be slaves!" I shouted in anger. So all these years I have been surviving at that shit hole the supernaturals called the Wolfless Area for nothing.
It turns out if a wolfless chooses the human world, they go to the higher council. Yes, they go to the human world to be walking blood banks to the vampires that stayed at the higher council, which are in the human world,... According to Xan's thought.
"Calm down," Luca shouted. "We will find your sister, but not tonight," he said, reminding me that it was his birthday.
"Is it bad there?" I choked out. "At the higher council?"
"Not sure. Never been," Luca said. I didn't need Xan to answer because I saw in her mind that she'd been. I wonder if all those people with vampires on their necks were wolfless or were some of them willing participants.
Luca pulled up to the entrance of the Wolfless Area. Xan leaned over and kissed him. "Have fun," she uttered, as if he needed her permission to have fun. Who knows? Maybe he does.
I looked at Xan, hoping she would take me with her to look for Nebra.
When she shut the door, I knew she had no intention of letting me join her. I watched after for a second.
"Hop on to the front," Luca pulled my attention away from Xan.
I got out of the car and went into the front. I was glad for the legroom, but right at that moment I only wanted to know if Nebra was OK. I wasn't sure what would be better for her. Being a slave in one of the packs in the Lycan Territory or in the human world being a blood bank at the Higher Council.
"You should stop worrying. "She will be fine," Luca tried to reassure me. It didn't work.
I studied his face. A small smile crept up his face. It was as if I was looking at an angel. Not that I know what angels look like, but I would imagine if they existed they would like Luca. Beautiful Luca. Who was a man. A very beautiful man.
Urg. What is wrong with me? Did he maybe somehow compel nie? Compel me to be in love with him?
'No. He didn't compel you,' I heard Xan scolding me in my head.
'Any news on my sister?,' I mind linked her. Hoping she has answers.
'You will be the first to know,' she linked me back.
I sighed loudly. Frustrated.
"You and Xan mind linking?" Luca asked.
"Sorry," I apologized.
"I tell you what," Luca started. A naughty smile crept onto his gorgeous face. "If you speak about your sister one more time tonight then I get to compel you to do something."
"Something like what?" I questioned.
"You gonna have to risk it to find out," he chuckled. "I promise you that tomorrow I will personally spend the whole day looking for your sister."
Him promising put my mind at ease. "Deal."
"Great. Now, of course, you have never been across the border, but how much do you know about the vampire world?"
"We're going to the vampire side?" I asked, half shocked.
"Yes. Hybrids are allowed to cross over."
"What about wolfless and Lycans?" I wondered. I averted my gaze towards the road. I realized it was time I took note of my surroundings.
"If they are with a hybrid, then yes." His words came as we entered the vampire territory.
We didn't drive very far before Luca pulled into a parking lot. It didn't look like much. A neon club light, a few vampires standing around. The moment I got out of the car, their scent hit my nose. Not the crazy beautiful scent of Luca. A scent that reminds you that they are dead.
Their eyes were all on me. I guess they could smell that I was wolfless.
Luca's pack members pulled up as well and as they got out of their cars, it seemed as if the young night came alive with their laughter. I have to admit it was nice being surrounded by happiness. You see, back at the wolfless area everyone was always morbid. Not that you could blame us. Our lives were not ours.
I noticed Luca noticed the vampires' eyes on me and, without warning, he plated his fingers into mine. His hand was soft and warm. His unexpected touch sent sparks through me. Sparks I didn't understand.
"Eat your hearts out," Luca teased them when he walked past a few vampires. "Oh wait, you don't have any," he chuckled.
"I'll eat yours," one of them challenged, leaking her lips.
"Sorry babe, I am taken," Luca declined.
"Talking about taken, where is Xan?" another guy asked.
"At home like a good little girlfriend," Luca made it clear that Xan belonged to him.
"Did daddy catch you a slave?" the guy teased.
"Actually Xan did. My birthday present," Luca said as we walked into the nightclub. I heard a deep sound that sounded far away, but the sound vibrated through the floor, though my feet, bouncing through my body.
We entered through one door and only when one of Luca's pack members opened the second door, the club music hit me. It was loud.
Luca went straight to the bar and shouted, "The usual for everyone!"
"Sarah? "What are you doing here?" I shouted over the loud music when I recognized a wolfless girl that must have been caught today with me. She looked out of it. As if she was on drugs or something.
"What is wrong with her?" I shouted over the music to the bartender.
"One too many vampire bites," Luca answered instead, his lips brushed against my ear.
"How did she get here? Vampires are not allowed to hunt us."
"Sold," Luca said and pulled me closer again to speak against my ear. "You see that line in her other arm? It is blood. You know she can't drink vampire blood to recover if they want to drink from her the whole night. So they replenish her with a blood transfer. The vampire bites have her high."
I looked at Sarah again. I hoped that Nebra was not there, and I hoped that if she ended up at the Higher Council that this was not how they do it there.
"Oh hey Lumin," Sarah recognised me. She was barely audible.
I leaned closer to her. "Do you know if Nebra got caught?"
Before she could answer, a vampire lashed onto her arm. I watched as her eyes rolled over.
"I believe I get to compel you now," Luca reminded me of our deal. He had a big smirk on his face.
"Dance with me," he said and pulled me to the dance floor.
He was smooth. A natural. He kept his eyes on me. Never taking them off me. Not once did he look at another. He made me feel as if I was the only one there.
"Kiss me," he said.
Of course, I did. Our bodies were barely touching but the heat between us felt like an embrace. I hooked my finger into the pocket of his pants and closed the gab between our bodies. It felt good to be against his body. My lips landed on his, but he went in for the kill. He tasted like the sip of the spirits he just had. His mouth was soft and warm.
