Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Ghost Protocol

The world was already on edge. Now, it was holding its breath.

In the days following the S.W.O.R.D. incident, tremors of uncertainty spread across the globe. News outlets scrambled to cover the mysterious explosion in Eastern Europe, citing "unknown energy anomalies" and "satellite interference." Conspiracy theories ran wild, from alien interference to secret Hydra experiments. But in truth, no one really knew.

In Wakanda, Shuri frowned at the fluctuating readings on her console. Her lab was quieter than usual—T'Challa was away, and the Dora Milaje gave her space when she was deep in thought.

"Antimatter," she murmured. "It's him."

Her holographic display stabilized into a recognizable energy signature—one that hadn't been seen in nearly a decade. Blue Marvel.

"Should I inform the council, Princess?" one of her aides asked cautiously.

"Not yet," Shuri replied, standing. "But keep the satellite relay on full scan. I want updates in real time."

In Latveria, Doctor Doom watched the same footage in brooding silence. His metal fingers gripped the armrest of his throne, expression unreadable.

"Victor?" Lucia von Bardas asked quietly, standing behind him.

"Summon the archivist," Doom said, his voice low and deliberate. "Bring me everything we have on Adam Brashear. I want nothing missed."

Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council convened behind closed doors. Heated debates flared—some pushed for containment, others urged diplomacy. Stark Industries tightened its orbital satellite protocols, and S.H.I.E.L.D. raised its global alert level to six. The name "Blue Marvel" circulated in encrypted files, spoken only in hushed tones.

Inside a fast-moving quinjet, Abigail Brand sat rigid, arms crossed, eyes fixed on the swirling snow outside. The Baltic winds battered the aircraft, but her focus didn't waver.

Eliza sat beside her—bandaged and pale, but alert. Though not officially cleared for the mission, she'd insisted on coming. Her hands trembled faintly from nerve trauma, but she hid it well.

Brand handed her a tablet. "We're approaching the outpost. No contact from it in years—officially decommissioned."

Eliza skimmed the file. "And now it's lighting up again?"

Brand nodded. "It was one of our antimatter research sites. Off the grid. No cleanup. Not even listed anymore."

"You think Adam's hiding out there?"

"Either him or someone trying to reach him," Brand said, her tone grim.

In a forest blanketed by snow and silence, Adam Brashear moved with purpose. His breath fogged in the freezing air, but power simmered quietly beneath his skin. He kept it in check.

He didn't know how long he had been walking—hours, maybe more. He wasn't following a map, just instinct. Something in the frozen landscape drew him forward.

Eventually, he saw it—a squat, weather-worn facility, almost buried by time. The faded S.W.O.R.D. logo peeked through layers of frost.

He placed a hand on the door. It buzzed—access denied. A low pulse of energy from his fingers surged into the panel, enough to override the lock without destroying it. The door creaked open.

Inside was cold and dark. Dust floated through the air. Emergency lights flickered on one by one, reacting to his presence.

He stepped inside slowly. The bunker was still functional, if barely. Silent halls stretched out, filled with corroded panels and silent terminals.

In the central chamber, a cracked monitor blinked awake. A file auto-loaded:

PROJECT WAVELENGTH – SUBJECT 0 – STATUS: ACTIVE

Adam narrowed his eyes. "Subject 0?" he muttered. The term was unfamiliar—even to him.

Then, he heard it.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Not mechanical. Not a malfunction.

Knocking.

He turned toward the hallway, fingers sparking faintly with light.

"Who's there?" he called, steady but alert.

The knocking stopped.

Then a voice—strained, distant:

"Help... me..."

He took a cautious step forward, heart pounding. Something felt wrong.

Above him, unnoticed, a small red light blinked—active surveillance. The camera tracked his movements.

Thousands of miles away, a shadowed figure leaned closer to a screen.

"Welcome back, Blue Marvel," came the low, gravelly voice.
