Lucian's fist clenched by his side as he continued to search for her in silence. His sharp gaze scanned every corner of the hall, but Emily was nowhere to be seen. He wasn't willing to ask anyone about her whereabouts—his pride wouldn't allow it.
"Are you sure she hasn't left?" Brandon asked softly, his tone lined with guilt. If he hadn't walked out earlier, Lucian wouldn't have followed him, and perhaps this situation could have been avoided altogether.
Lucian's jaw tightened. "I believe she doesn't know anyone here. How possible is it that she will leave?"
Brandon gave a small shrug, his lips twitching. "Maybe a lady or a young man might have helped her."
"Young man?" Lucian repeated, his voice low, almost dangerous. The mere suggestion left a bitter taste in his mouth. The thought of bringing Emily to the banquet only for her to leave with another man wasn't part of his plan.
