Chapter 10 - Grinding for levels

"Game on."

As if understanding what he said, the almost 3ft tall wild boar immediately charged at him at frightening speed.

Freddy immediately rolled to the side, dodging the attack by a hairs breath.

The boar immediately entered a stunned state after missing. 'That must be the charge skill.'

Charge is an aggro-locking skill of the Guardian class which stuns the target for 5 seconds, however if missed, the attacker enters a stun state for 3 seconds.

Not wasting a single moment, Freddy immediately delivered a running knee to the boar, followed by a jumping spinning kick.

'Damn, what high defense.' with an attack power of 23, Freddy could barely deal a damage of 13.

At that moment, the boar finally came out of its stun state. Catching Freddy offguard, it swung its head and knocked him back.

HP: 90/120

'I have to avoid taking it head on, I definitely can't outlast it in terms of health.' looking at his hp bar, Freddy decided to fight a dragged out battle.

The boar immediately initiated another charge.

With a sidestep, Freddy dodged again, reactivating the stun on the animal again. 'This beast doesn't seem so bright, that's great I can slowly grind it away.'

With that thought, Freddy immediately launched at the beast again.

Throwing punches and kicks at it in its stunned state, while immediately retreating as soon as it recovers only to dodge and send it into that state again.

After several minutes of repeated punching, the boar finally let out a high squeal and collapsed, dropping some copper coins and a hide.

At the same time a system Notification greeted him.

Freddy immediately walk towards the loot, placing the 3 copper coins into his inventory, Freddy picked up the hide and inspected it.

Just like the ranking of weapons and equipments, materials are also ranked from; trash, common, uncommon, rare, epic, unique, legendary, mythical and divine.

Sending the hide into his inventory, Freddy proceeded forward in search of more animals to kill.

Encountering two more level 2 boar, Freddy repeated the same strategy to dispatch them off. After the third boar collapsed, a golden light radiated out of him, signalling a level up.

He received 4 attribute points, assigned 2 to strength, and 2 to agility, bringing his attack power to 29 and his agility to 12.

Feeling his body become a bit lighter, Freddy continued heading deeper into the forest. Verdant Glen was a level 1-10 leveling area and the deeper one went, the higher the level of animals.

Freddy spent the next six hours killing wild boar, elevating himself to level 3, with his exp bar a little more than halfway to level 4.

Before him laid the corpse of a level 3 wild boar which he just killed.

Just as he was about to loot the boar, a system Notification echoed throughout the game world.

World Announcement

Player Hurricane has become the first player to reach level 10. He has unlocked the level leaderboard.

-----------------------------------------

'Hurricane? That's the second player on the global pro-players ranking.' Freddy picked up his loots and continued deeper.

'All these pro-players are really leveling with such gusto. I wonder how Kelv's doing.' however, he didn't think for long and returned to leveling up.

[Seven Hours back, moment of Launch]

Meanwhile, in the spawn area of Maple town, many players were spawning and hurriedly exiting the town to go level.

However, a single player silently stood in the spawn area, not moving an inch. Boldly displayed above his head in green were his name, class and level.

[Razor Shot

Archer (Lvl 1)]

In Arcadia Online, both players and NPCs have their name displayed above them, with players name in green, while NPC's were in white.

Kelvin quietly stood in the square, his eyes fixed on both of his legs.

'Standing, How long has it been since I stood on my own feets? I can't even remember how to walk.' he thought, tears welling up in his eyes.

Having lost his legs as a kid, Kelvin spent the majority of his life without experiencing the sensation of having legs.

He tried to take a step, but soon found himself sprawled on the ground in failure.

He sat up immediately, however standing up again was out of the question.

"This might take some getting use to." he muttered and chuckled mockingly.

"Boss Raz?"

A voice calling out from his front instantly snapped him out of his thoughts.

Raising his head, he saw a boy of around sixteen or seventeen years in the beginners outfit staring at him curiously.

[Billy the kid

Shaman (Lvl 1)]

Was on display above him.

"Bill?" Kelvin asked in surprise.

"Haha, I thought that was you boss, only you would stick with such a lamea*s name in a new game. What are you doing sitting on the floor?" the boy, bill burst into laughter.

"Complicated story, help me up first. And What do you mean by lamea*s name? Razor Shot is a bada*s name." Kelvin upon seeing someone he knew, suddenly felt at ease.

Bill first pulled him up and supported him to stand steady, before replying "face it boss, out of everyone in the squad, only you stuck with that same old name."

"Rankers don't change name so easily, besides where's Will?" Kelvin stood, leaning on Bill for support.

"It's a random selection for beginners town, he might be anywhere." Bill replied "Anyway, even though you're close, you still not a ranker yet so changing your name won't affect you much."

As he spoke, Bill turned to walk towards the exit however as soon as Kelvin tried to move, he almost fell if not for Bill's timely intervention of catching him again.

"What's wrong boss?" He was surprised to see Kelvin unable to walk.

"Got leg issues in reality so walking will take me some getting use to." Kelvin answered truthfully.

Bill was surprised, even though both of them played in other games, there had never met each other.

"Alright come on, before we reach the gate you'd have gotten the hang of it." As he spoke, Bill threw Kelvin's arms over his own shoulders, propping him up as they slowly made their way towards the exit.

"What are the guild's plan for the early stage the Arcadia Online?" Bill suddenly asked as they walked.

"I don't know, got kicked out of the guild before the game launched." Kelvin shrugged his shoulders.

"WHAT!!!"
