Chapter One – The Whispering Gift

The market square was loud with bartering voices, the clatter of hooves, and the metallic ring of a blacksmith's hammer. Yet beneath it all, Arion Vale heard something no one else could: the whisper of thoughts.

A merchant shouted about fine silk, but Arion heard the true thought beneath his tongue—"If only they don't notice the moth holes." A guard barked for order, yet inside his mind trembled the fear of debt collectors.

At first, Arion thought it was madness. But when his gaze locked with another's, the whispers grew louder, clearer… controllable.

"Buy the apple," he murmured to himself, not moving his lips.

The boy at the fruit stand blinked twice, hesitated, then shoved two copper coins at the vendor. Arion's breath caught—because the boy had done exactly what he wanted.

The whispers weren't just voices. They were strings. And he could pull them.

That night, under the broken roof of his small cottage, his mother found him staring at his hands as if they were cursed.

"Arion," she whispered, voice shaking, "you must never use that gift where others can see. The church burns witches for less."

But Arion's eyes gleamed with something dangerous—curiosity.

Because if he could make a boy buy an apple… what else could he make the world do?
