"DXD: Infinite Loot System"Chapter 303: The Lion King's Battle Axe
With the Queen's match concluded, Team Sairaorg emerged victorious. A Queen was worth nine points, a Bishop three—so Sairaorg's side netted twelve, nearly matching Tenra's thirteen. The stage was set: everything would be decided by the final showdown—the King's battle.
Across the floating platforms, separated by hundreds of meters, Tenra and Sairaorg locked eyes. A shared, knowing grin tugged at both their lips.
"How's Master's match looking?"
Raynare slipped into the VIP box, her gaze hungry for news.
"It's about to begin, Raynare," came the reply.
Ravel eyed her, a hint of suspicion in her voice. "Where have you been?"
Raynare's smile was all sharp edges. "Ran into a few old friends. Had some catching up to do."
Ravel snorted, but let it go. She'd never liked Raynare's darkness, but as long as she stayed loyal to Onii-sama, Ravel had no reason to interfere.
The intermission ended. The crowd's anticipation reached fever pitch as the host's voice boomed out:
"Now, the final match of this Rating Game begins!"
A tidal wave of cheers crashed through the venue. The Peerage battles had been spectacular, but the King's duel was what everyone had been waiting for.
"Both Kings and their Pawns, prepare for teleportation!"
Tenra stepped forward with his team; Sairaorg did the same, accompanied by a masked figure.
Light flared. The arena erupted as both teams vanished into the alternate space.
—
The battlefield materialized as a vast, empty plain. Sairaorg sized up Tenra and his girls; Tenra, in turn, studied Sairaorg and his lone Pawn.
"The match begins!" the host declared, but neither King even glanced his way.
"At last, Tenra Kamiyo," Sairaorg called, eyes blazing.
"I've been waiting for this, Sairaorg," Tenra replied, his own gaze fierce.
They stood across from each other, the air between them crackling with anticipation.
"How's your mother?" Tenra asked quietly.
Sairaorg's face softened. "Thanks to you, she's recovering well. The doctors say she'll make a full recovery with a bit more rest. She asked me to thank you."
Tenra waved it off. "No need. As long as she's safe, that's what matters. Now you can fight me without anything holding you back."
"Of course!"
"But before we start, introduce your Pawn. He seems… unique."
Tenra's eyes settled on the masked figure beside Sairaorg.
Sairaorg smiled. "Trust you to notice so quickly."
"Regulus, show them your true form."
"Yes, Lord Sairaorg."
The Pawn called Regulus removed his mask, revealing a young man's face. But that was only the beginning. Bones cracked, his body expanding rapidly. Golden fur sprouted, limbs thickened, fangs gleamed through parted lips, a tail whipped behind him, and a mane of gold framed his head.
Before the stunned crowd, Sairaorg's Pawn transformed into a colossal lion.
"ROARRRR!"
Majestic and powerful, the beast let loose a thunderous roar. Five, maybe six meters from nose to tail, with a diamond-shaped jewel gleaming on its forehead. Its golden fur shimmered as if forged from sunlight—a living statue of power.
"Unbelievable! Lord Sairaorg's Pawn is—a giant lion!"
The host's astonishment echoed through the stadium. Sairaorg had never deployed his Pawn before; now, the reveal left everyone breathless.
In the VIP seats, Azazel's eyes narrowed, then widened with sudden recognition. "A Vapula lion… Wait, that jewel—!"
He leaned forward, voice urgent. "The Bible tells of a Sacred Gear sealed within a lion's body. That lion became a legendary Longinus—Regulus Nemea, the Lion King's Battle Axe."
"Sairaorg, your Pawn is that lion, isn't he?" Tenra's question was more a statement, his confidence absolute. With his Sacred Gear Plunder, he could never mistake such a presence.
Sairaorg's Pawn wasn't just any beast—he was a living legend.
Sairaorg nodded, his pride plain. "Right. Regulus is the lion fused with a Sacred Gear."
"When I found him, his previous host had been killed by a mysterious group. Normally, when the host dies, the Battle Axe vanishes. But for reasons unknown, it reverted to lion form and wiped out every last enemy that killed its master."
"Maybe because my mother hails from the Vapula clan—the keepers of lions—Regulus felt no hostility. In fact, he seemed drawn to me. After a few twists of fate, I used seven Pawn pieces to make him my servant."
Regulus Nemea. Another Longinus, standing alongside Boosted Gear, Divine Dividing, and Annihilation Maker. Four legendary Sacred Gears gathered in one place—an event that belonged in myth, not reality.
The crowd was electric with excitement. Even Tenra felt his blood stir.
"Maryu, Bylent, Shuria, Ni, Li, Mira, Ilu, Enlu—promote to Queen!"
Tenra called each Pawn by name, his command ringing out.
"Yes!"
The girls' voices harmonized, and magic flared around them as they ascended in rank. Waves of power rippled from their bodies, transforming the air itself.
"Regulus, those eight are yours. Defeat them—but do not harm their lives."
Sairaorg stroked the lion's mane, his instructions clear.
"As you wish, my master."
Regulus bared his fangs, voice rumbling like thunder. He bounded forward, massive paws shaking the earth.
Tenra's team leapt after him, eight newly crowned Queens racing to meet the legendary lion head-on.
