Chapter 20 - Spatial Stones

There was a reason why the mercenary guild had more members than other organizations.

First was freedom; one could leave the mercenary guild whenever they wanted to quit, and there would be no penalty or any punishment for doing that.

Freedom was a thing desired by everyone, after all.

Second was their only obvious choice; most organizations only took people with talent and potential, which was why a lot of people had no choice but to join the only organization they could to get resources, and the mercenary guild was the only organization for this type of people.

They entered a spacious hall; on the left was the reception, and on the right was a mission board with a lot of mission contracts on it.

Eve and their cute friend were wearing their cloaks, but still, a lot of eyes were scanning her body, and Lucy was also a little nervous, not because people were looking at her, but because he was also born from his mother, after all, and even though he had hidden his unique colored eyes and hair, he was still very handsome, so a lot of women were also looking at him. It wouldn't have been a bad thing if his sister was not glaring at his back with killing intent in her eyes.

He still had some normal cloaks inside his ring, but he didn't like wearing oversized clothes that hindered his movements, so he didn't wear any of those baggy clothes.

If he had any doubts before, then right now he didn't have any doubts that if he tried to make a move on any woman who was not approved by his sister or his family, then he would be dead for sure.

'Huh...tough life.'

They reached the reception where there were different counters: one was for accepting missions, one was for new joining, one was for posting missions, and one was for submitting mission requirements.

They made their way to the new joining counter, where a beautiful demon stood; she had cat ears. Although demons and humans hated each other, they still had members of each other residing in each other's kingdoms. In fact, you could find all five races working or living in all kingdoms, but their standing would be lower.

"Hello there, never seen you guys before, new to this city?" Although a lot of people came here every day and it was hard to remember anyone, they still stood out a lot, and if they had come here before, this receptionist wouldn't have forgotten them.

"Yes, and we would like to register ourselves," Lucy replied.

"Sure, it's just a simple procedure," she replied and brought out a black metal card.

"Tell me your names, please."

"Lucifer and Evelyn."

After getting their names, the receptionist used a metal law artifact to carve their names on it, and after that, she brought out a golden crystal ball, which was a life law artifact, and its purpose was to get their age and level.

"Please put your hands on this and transfer your spiritual energy into it; it will display your age and level."

Eve moved forward and put her hands on it and activated her spiritual energy.

"Age 18 years, mortal level 3."

"Ohh..., you are quite talented, miss," the receptionist exclaimed in little surprise. Of course, why wouldn't she? After all, for a normal talent to reach level 3 in elemental law on average took 10 years, which would make their age 20 years, as everyone started at 10 years.

The receptionist wouldn't think that Eve was a heavenly talent. But there are very few heavenly talent in mercenary guild, they are here for freedom...only if she knew what his and Eve's real talent and law were...

"Just passable," Eve replied humbly and got aside for Lucy to do the same.

"Age 13 years, mortal level 3."

"Ahhh..." The receptionist got surprised throughly this time but didn't stop her work and carved their levels on the card, she seem professional. Now the card contained their names and levels; age wasn't given any column on it because it was only meant to know their real age so that they were not some old guys who had some bad motives.

"Here's your cards; just renew them whenever you level up, and please put a drop of blood on them to bind them to yourself," she handed them their cards.

"Thanks," Lucy thanked her, and they took their cards and put a drop of their blood on them, and they immediately felt the connection to it. Now no one else could use these cards even if they were lost.

There were two types of cards in the mercenary guild: one was the black, and the other was platinum. Black was for mortal levels, and platinum was for immortal levels.

These cards were also small artifacts in themselves. Once they accepted any mission and completed it, they would be given credit points; these credit points would be stored in their cards, but that wasn't its main function; the built-in catalogue was. Yes, this card worked like a catalogue, which they could open as long as they provided it spiritual energy. They could browse through all the resources that were available to exchange.

And you could also use extra credits to get any resource directly delivered to your location if you wanted or just order your desired resource and get it from the nearest mercenary branch...'quite a neat function, if he said so, but this card itself wasn't some precious artifact; it just acted as a link between the main artifact that provided the catalogue, and the main artifact lay in the main building of the mercenary guild, which was in the capital of the human kingdom.'

Lucy poured his spiritual energy inside the card, and a catalogue appeared in front of his eyes...'one of the laws used in this was definitely light laws, and the others, well, he couldn't figure it out by just looking at it.'

He looked at the catalogue, and it seemed to be organized well. There were different tabs for different types of laws with a side column indicating how many resources of that law were present in them.

They also had tabs for supreme laws in that because resources in those laws were still useful for other miscellaneous things, and a lot of people bought these too, but the prices were so much that only immortals could have a shot at purchasing them.

But some supreme resources were also cheaper, like spatial stones; they were the main ingredient in making teleportation in the whole world, so they were available here for purchase.

Law-specific stones were generally spiritual stones that had absorbed a specific law due to a high concentration of that law nearby it, so their classification was similar to spiritual stones, which were supreme law stones, heavenly law stones, and normal law stones with low level or high level according to the amount of law they had absorbed.

Lucy wanted to purchase them because they had spatial law energy, which he wanted to absorb and level up as fast as he could in spatial law.

This wouldn't affect him in his foundation because he had already completed that process with chaos law, and his supreme talent could cover up any other problems that could occur while leveling up with only resources easily.

"It's time to complete some missions, sis." The price of one spatial stone was 1000 credit points, and the missions that were available to level 3 members provided 300 credits on average.

One person could accept only one mission at a time, so they could accept only two missions at a time, which would earn them about 600 credits.

But they had a solution for this problem, as the mercenary guild hadn't put any restrictions on missions as long as the person could submit the required penalty for failing the mission in advance.

You could only choose the mission according to your level if you couldn't provide the penalty in advance, so they were going to choose level 4 missions, which gave 1000 credits on average.

But missions were not the only way to earn credits in the mercenary hall; you could get credits with gold coins and by submitting resources as well.

If you wanted to buy credit points from gold, then 10 gold coins would be equal to 1 credit point or 1 spritual stone, but if you wanted to get gold coins from credit, then it would be 1 gold coin for 1 credit point.

It sounded ridiculous, but this was done to prevent people from using money to buy credit points.

But if you wanted to use resources to buy credit, then the credit exchange would be the same in both ways.

So if you wanted to get credits, you could submit resources or buy them with gold if you were filthy rich.

Their mom had left them with a lot of low-level resources and about 100,000 gold coins in their rings, so he was definitely going to use them to get as many credits as he could.

Lucy already had some spatial stones, but only about 10 or so, because their mother and aunt didn't need them for the time being, so they hadn't amassed them.

He needed at least 30 spatial stones to reach level one in spatial laws, so he would start absorbing them when he got 30 of them.
