After confirming that Adam is not in the company, Henry finally leaves.
Riley remains in the office feeling uneasy.
Twenty minutes pass. Each tick of the clock stretches the tension inside him tighter. He unconsciously starts pacing from one end of the office to the other, his shoes barely making a sound on the smooth floor.
He tells himself to stay calm, that Henry will be back soon, but his chest feels tight, and the waiting grinds against his nerves.
The door opens making Riley to stops mid-step. His head jerks toward it, and his breath catches before he can even react. Adam stands there.
He doesn't step fully inside. He remains at the threshold, leaning slightly against the frame, his posture casual but his eyes carrying an unreadable intent.
A faint curl touches the corner of his mouth, a suggestion of a smile that isn't kind.
