By the time Henry and Riley get near home, the sky is already dimming, streaks of fading light swallowed by the oncoming night.
It's just past seven, and the estate roads are bathed in the soft glow of streetlights.
"We shouldn't go back into the house together," Riley says, and his words make Henry ease the car to a slower crawl. He knows Riley's right, it would raise suspicion if they both walked in at the same time, but the thought of leaving Riley out here gnaws at him.
The night is settling in, and though the gate isn't far, though this neighborhood is quiet and orderly with security always nearby, something in him hesitates.
"Should we call a cab?" Henry asks, reluctant, almost searching for an excuse to keep him close.
Riley lets out an unexpected laugh, amused and incredulous all at once. "Are you kidding me? If it wasn't dark, I'd be able to see the gate from here. And you're talking about a cab?" He shakes his head with a grin. "I'll be right behind you."
