In order to start my magecraft practices I first need a secluded place. After all, even though I am technically someone who knows nothing about the moonlit world if I end up revealing magecraft to a non-magical surely the Mage's Association and the Holy Church will kill me. Or dissect me in order to find out how I learned magecraft by myself.
So I asked to take a walk around the hospital's area. It has a small area with trees that I hope can help me hide what I am doing. Obviously I am not going to try something showy but better to not risk it.
Thankfully while I am still not allowed to leave the hospital because of my 'memory loss' I am physically well.
And while the hospital staff didn't want me to leave my room, the doctor responsible for me actually helped me doing so.
Doctor Ushida Shigeo. He's a kind elderly man who has been nothing but helpful through my stay here. He was the one who got the map I asked to figure out where I am for instance.
Of course, despite being helpful I can't help but be cautious of him. I am currently defenceless, so while I hope Doctor Ushida is truly as kind as he portrays himself there is always the chance it's some sort of mask.
Who knows, maybe he is the one who did the whole mess of people losing their memories to begin with.
So yeah, while I am thankful for his help I can't help but be cautious. Not only of him but of anyone.
This is a new world, and I haven't meet a single 'character' that I recognized, so I have no idea of someone's personality other than my own instincts.
And there is still the chance that this is a completely unknown timeline. Maybe this is a world where there is no one I know. While I doubt that I can't ignore the possibility.
Thus I went alongside Doctor Uchida to the small green area at the hospital's back. I asked him to leave me by myself for a bit, and while he seemed reluctant he agreed.
After finding a slightly secluded area surrounded by trees I sit down with my legs crossed.
Now, what I plan to do is replicate Emiya Shirou's method to create magic circuits. Tohsaka Rin told him in the Fate route I believe that the creation of magic circuits is done by beginners in order to make them accustomed to the feeling of magical energy coursing through them.
First I focus.
I need to make the Macroverse(World) reflect itself into the Microverse(Body), the planet has Leylines, my body has magic circuits, now to gather the energy flowing through it into me.
Breath in.
Out.
No thought.
Just sensations.
Focus on the world itself, not the animals or the humans living there, but the dirt beneath me.
Now, allow it to enter my body.
Slowly.
I fell it gathering inside me.
Or well, I hope I am feeling it.
Now focus all this outside force into a single area, and begin transforming an useless nerve into a new form.
I can feel it heating up.
Focus. Don't allow it to leave.
It's heating up.
More.
More.
I can feel it!
"AHHHhh..." I scream, but quickly cover my mouth with my hands.
Yeah, it worked. But I lost focus midway through, making the magic circuit disappear before being able to use it.
But at least I know that I can do it now.
I try it again.
I breath, and focus in the planet.
I feel the energy gathering inside my body, and focus in a single area.
Now, convert my nerves into magic circuits!
AHHH. Fuck, no. Ignore the pain.
Focus into the circuit and allow magic energy to flow through it.
Yes.
Yes.
YES!
My focus is lost, making me suddenly open my eyes.
Fuck, no wonder Rin called Shirou suicidal, this is ridiculously inefficient. Not only the circuits dissipate without constant focus but their quality is clearly poor.
I was able to activate 5 circuits. Not that many, but I was not able to activate all of them.
Nor was able to know how many I got, but I can at least say I have a few more than 5. If they have a good quality things are going to be rather good.
Interestingly I was able to find something about the creation of magic circuit and why it's not done normally.
I remember that people from my past world created the theory of turning unused nerves into magic circuits to increase the amount they are born with.
Yeah, not happening.
After creating circuits through my nerves and having unlocking my natural ones, I can easily say that my natural ones are far superior. Not only that, but the idea of creating more is simply ridiculous.
It's like my body or perhaps my soul, have a set value, if someone is born with 10 circuits that's the maximum they are able to naturally have. If I have 10 circuits naturally, I could only create 10 with my nerves, and the natural ones would slowly lose their ability to function.
A weird analogy would be to say that the nerve circuits are a prothesis and natural circuits a arm. Having nerve circuits without your natural circuits would be like using a prothesis when you already have a functional arm, after a while using the prothesis the arm would atrophy and rot.
So yeah, activating your natural circuits is far more efficient.
After all, even if you create new circuits their quality would ALWAYS be inferior to you natural ones.
Both inefficient and worthless.
Oh, sure there are some uses for that. Like, I am pretty sure that if someone taught Matou Fucking Shinji how to make circuits he would be able to create non atrophied circuits and become a Magus. But most Magi must dismiss the idea of creating circuits so Matou Zouken didn't even think about it.
But that's for another day, I just got magic circuits, and while it will take a while to fully unlucky them and creating a switch I can now at least confirm I can do Magecraft.
So now, after unlocking all my circuits and practicing the basics like Gradating Air and StructuralAnalysis I can will be able to focus in a far more interesting area.
The Thaumathurgic Fundation that my magecraft will be focused on.
