Chapter 207 - The Ancient One is Dead, But Not Really!

Thor began to doubt the way his father, Odin, had died, and even Odin himself started to doubt his own death.

A true man, if he must die, then he must die with dignity. He absolutely could not die in a sloppy manner, nor could he become the object of ridicule.

Now, the Ancient One had already become a laughingstock. In the future, he absolutely could not become a nobody; that would be truly ridiculous.

Just as he was secretly vowing that he would never die so miserably, in the image Doctor Strange had already found his old flame, Christine, to treat the Ancient One.

At first, Christine started the treatment, but she immediately realized that this was a major issue and immediately began to treat the Ancient One.

Now, Doctor Strange, Stephen Strange, whose hands were no longer capable of performing surgery, could only leave the opportunity for treatment to others.

Suddenly, it was as if he realized something, and immediately performed Astral Projection.

Under the vision of Astral Projection, he saw the Ancient One's soul floating out, and he quickly followed.

"Souls? Actually souls?"

In the mansion, Tony Stark saw the souls of the two people in the image and was dumbfounded.

This was just too unscientific. Although this was the magic side, you couldn't just ignore logic and reason! Tony Stark really wanted to complain, what was this? This was simply a bit ridiculous, wasn't it! He never expected to be able to see Astral Projection?

"Is this what Lin Feng mentioned about being slapped out of your soul?" Tony Stark immediately reacted, realizing something.

If there were souls, wouldn't that mean ghosts really existed? Thinking of this, Tony Stark inexplicably felt like he was falling into an ice cave.

He had always thought that in this world, when people died, they were just gone, there was no other form, but now, he suddenly felt that there seemed to be many eyes in this space watching him.

Although there was no substantial evidence, he just had this feeling.

"No, I must develop an instrument that can see those souls. I don't want anyone prying into my privacy all the time!" Tony Stark muttered to himself.

His severe paranoia suddenly flared up.

He already had a strong case of paranoia, and it was acting up at this moment.

But everyone else looked as though they understood perfectly, as if they'd just realized something. Of course, how could such a powerful sorcerer die so easily without any precautions?

It seemed that these sorcerers could perform Astral Projection at any time, which meant that for them, death might not be the end of life.

They still had powerful souls that could exist in the form of a soul, but that was knowledge from another realm.

"I seem to understand now why Lin Feng described the death of the Ancient One as wanting to get off work early. If physical death isn't the end, then she might really be off work," Natasha (Black Widow) said.

Everyone nodded. Indeed, that made sense. This explained why Lin Feng's words were full of jokes and mockery when faced with the death of such a great figure, as if he couldn't empathize at all.

But from another perspective, it might mean something else entirely.

At this moment, Doctor Strange, in the image, caught up with the Ancient One's Astral Projection and immediately said, "What are you doing? You're dying!"

The two souls arrived at a balcony in the hospital and stopped there.

"You have to get back to your body, or you won't have time!"

Doctor Strange urgently advised.

As a top surgeon, he knew exactly how critical the Ancient One's body was at this moment.

Even as a sorcerer, and one of the best among them, even having absorbed energy from the Dark Dimension, she still hadn't completed the leap in life. She was still just an ordinary person. Such severe injuries would be fatal if she didn't return to her body in time.

But the Ancient One appeared completely unruffled. She spoke calmly, "Time is a relative concept. You haven't gotten used to the role of a sorcerer yet."

Time had stopped for the people in the room, but the lightning spreading slowly in the distance seemed to prove that time was still flowing slowly.

Although it was slow, it was really flowing, but the speed was so slow that ordinary people couldn't perceive it at all, as if time had stopped.

"So, the soul can, to some extent, break free from the constraints of time. The concept of time for the soul might be different. The soul's perception of the passage of time is not the same as the physical body's?" Tony Stark thought as he read this.

Another strange and useless piece of trivia added.

The expressions of the others were also a bit solemn. Doctor Strange wasn't used to being a sorcerer, and what about them? They weren't even sorcerers, so they couldn't understand what this meant.

But they at least knew one thing: that sorcerers seemed to have their own worldview regarding time, life, and the soul, which was different from what normal people understood.

"I have spent a lot of time peering into the future, but looking at this point in time, I may not make it!" Ancient One said slowly. "I have stopped countless terrible events, but bad things always follow, and I will eventually reach this step, and then it will end!"

She was already too tired. Countless times of stopping, countless times of failure. What was destined to happen would inevitably happen.

No matter how she tried to stop it, it was useless.

This had already happened countless times over the past few hundred years.

She was used to it, and she was numb.

Because if one were to understand her from the worldview of an ordinary person, she might only have lived for a few hundred years. Although that was already very long compared to ordinary people, it was still within the realm of understanding.

But with the Time Stone and the ability to observe timelines, her experiences were actually far more than her age suggested.

Every time she observed a timeline was an experience of a lifetime!

She didn't even remember how many times that was.

"Do you think you're just going to die like this?"

Doctor Strange immediately asked.

He didn't understand. The Ancient One still had a chance to live, she could still be saved. Why would she give up? Obviously, he hadn't reached a level of understanding where he could truly comprehend it.

"Do you know what future I saw in you?" The Ancient One didn't answer Doctor Strange's question. Instead, she asked him a question.

"No, well, I want to know!" Doctor Strange, Stephen Strange, readily admitted.

Everyone wants to know about the future, to understand it.

Even if it's just out of curiosity.

"I've never truly seen your future; I've only seen potential possibilities. Your nature is pure and kind, always outstanding, not because you crave success so much, but because you fear failure!" The Ancient One explained slowly.

She had never truly pinpointed Doctor Strange's future, and these infinite possibilities were the real reason she wanted to entrust the future to him.

"So that's why I became an excellent doctor!" Doctor Strange, Stephen Strange, quickly nodded and then said.

This is also the way most American elites conduct themselves.

"But that's also why you're not great enough!" The Ancient One then said with a calm expression. "Your arrogance and fear make you ignorant of the simplest yet most important things."

"What is that?" Doctor Strange, Stephen Strange, pondered, unable to figure out what it meant.

Is this old guy a Riddler from another universe?

"The meaning of life is not in the self!" The Ancient One tried to impart her understanding of life to her successor, she said. "From the first time you came to me, asking how I healed Jonathan Pangborn, I didn't heal him. He infused himself with the power of space!"

"So, he walks with magic?"

Doctor Strange, Stephen Strange, suddenly understood. Jonathan Pangborn, even after being paralyzed, could still walk. He wasn't truly healed, just like his own hands.

His hands had never been truly healed. They looked normal now, but it was just the effect of magic.

"Indeed," the Ancient One nodded. "He once faced a choice: to return to his own life, or to dedicate himself to a higher goal!"

"So, can my hands be healed again, so I can return to my old life?"

Doctor Strange, Stephen Strange, asked.

He asked with a hint of anticipation, even though he knew there probably wasn't any hope. But the experiences of this period had been too full of ups and downs. Compared to that, he still wanted to simply be a rich, handsome man.

Isn't this better than doing tricks?

"Of course, you can!" Ancient One nodded, then said, "But it won't be beneficial to the whole world!"

"I certainly don't want to gain power from the Dark Dimension, but you also understand that sometimes people have to break the rules and pursue those higher ideals they believe in!" Ancient One began to explain to Doctor Strange why she had to absorb energy from the Dark Dimension.

She had never tried to explain these words to Baron Mordo, nor had she tried to explain them to Kaecilius.

Because their vision, their perspectives, were not enough for them to stand at such a height to discuss life, to discuss why they had to absorb the dark energy of the Dark Dimension to maintain longevity.

However, she had expectations for Doctor Strange.
