Chapter 203 - Lin Feng Unravels the Ancient One's Predestined Death?

This was even more interesting, at least from the Ancient One's perspective. It was quite fascinating!

Lin Feng hadn't even met her, yet he seemed to know her intimately!

Not being able to see the future had its pros and cons for her.

The downside was that the Time Stone lost its primary function. She was no longer certain about many future events. For example, Stephen Strange, her chosen successor as Sorcerer Supreme, might now encounter an unexpected incident. This forced her to spend more time monitoring him.

However, the upside was that the shackles of fate, which had weighed her down, were suddenly broken. Yes, utterly broken.

The terrifying shackles of fate that had bound her previously were impossible to break.

If given a choice, few people would choose to die.

Even though she wanted to retire, retirement was one thing, and death was another – they weren't the same.

But later, she discovered that a tribulation was fated for her, and she couldn't escape it.

No matter how many times she tried, thousands, tens of thousands of times, she couldn't change the final destiny.

Countless different choices would form countless different possible futures, but at a certain point in time, everything would be completely converged.

If each timeline were a line, then one could see countless, densely packed, thorny timelines suddenly knotted together at a single point, merging into one.

In other words, no matter how many possibilities and futures there were, for her, there was only one path: to face death.

There was no other choice!

She had tried countless possibilities of struggle, but the results were all failures.

Because she could use the Time Stone to observe the future, she could directly see whether she would succeed.

In the end, after countless attempts, she could only give up.

So, she chose to entrust the future to Doctor Stephen Strange, and she chose to retire.

For a strong person like her, especially one who mastered magic, dying wasn't so easy. Physical death didn't mean the soul would also die.

Odin could die and still enter Valhalla, and in Thor 5, he could still come out and cause trouble. How much more so for the Ancient One?

But now, the situation had changed drastically. She couldn't see the future. In other words, the future had changed for her from a predictable and observable one to an unobservable one.

She didn't even know what results her every step now would cause. Although she had lost the ability to foresee the future, she felt better than ever before.

It was really great!

She had almost forgotten what it felt like to be confused about the future before she became the Sorcerer Supreme and before she obtained the Eye of Agamotto.

"The battle between you two here has caused too much of a commotion. It won't be long before you two become targets of research in various countries!" the Ancient One said.

"Just a whim, just a whim!" Thor calmed down at this moment, mainly because the pent-up anger had been punched out of him by Lin Feng, and he gradually calmed down.

Today, his gains were enormous. Not only did he know why his mother would die in the future, but his strength had also improved further under Lin Feng's training, a significant increase in power.

Suddenly, at this moment, a Bifrost broke through the void and descended from the sky, directly into the Mirror Dimension. A figure emerged, and it was none other than Odin, the God-King of Asgard.

Also, the nominal lord of Earth.

"Your Majesty Odin," Ancient One said politely.

"Master Ancient One, my eldest son, being ignorant, has offended you. He truly doesn't know what's good for him," Odin stepped forward and immediately explained.

Ancient One glanced at Odin. Although they had an agreement: Ancient One would protect Earth, repel the Dimensional Demons, and maintain the dimensional stability of the main universe, while Odin would protect Earth from attacks by extraterrestrial forces from the main universe.

Based on this, Odin could not easily set foot on Earth.

However, she could understand. Odin, anxious for his son, was eager to use the Bifrost to fish him out of the Mirror Dimension.

It seemed Heimdall couldn't see what was happening in the Mirror Dimension, which had made Odin anxious.

"It's alright. Thor's reputation is well-known, and he will help Earth a lot in the future. He's not an outsider!" Ancient One said with a smile.

She truly didn't consider Thor an outsider. On the one hand, Thor's threat level was far less than Odin's. Odin was a Skyfather-level powerhouse on par with her, while Thor, even if he had broken through, could still have his soul slapped out with a single palm.

On the other hand, she had observed the future. Thor would become a top-tier combatant in the Avengers, an important force in protecting Earth. Naturally, he was one of their own.

Most importantly, she knew about Ragnarok. She knew that Asgard didn't have many years left. She wouldn't be wary of a force that was about to be finished.

"And it's not really an offense. It's just that the fighting between the two of them was too loud. Although superheroes are common these days, it's best not to alarm the ordinary people and the government," Ancient One said casually.

With that, she opened the Eye of Agamotto. A burst of emerald light erupted from the Eye of Agamotto on her chest. The crystallized desert, which had been damaged by Lin Feng and Thor's battle, reversed time and quickly returned to its original state.

It was as if the brutal battle had never happened.

This was truly awe-inspiring. The Time Stone's ability was simply heaven-defying.

"Indeed," Ancient One said respectfully, and Odin smiled in return. He then turned to Lin Feng and said, "You must be Lin Feng. I heard from Thor that you helped him at a crucial moment. I haven't had a chance to thank you."

Lin Feng wasn't surprised that Odin knew him. Thor would certainly have mentioned him, and even if he hadn't, Odin had Heimdall, who could see across realms. Many things couldn't be hidden from him. The only difference was that Heimdall could only selectively view events and couldn't watch everything at once.

Even so, Heimdall's ability was also heaven-defying.

"It's nothing. If the Allfather is willing, could you send me some magic manuals? I've been very interested in this recently!" Lin Feng said.

"No problem!" Odin immediately agreed. Asgard's heritage was on full display at this moment.

Asgard's ancestors were once Earth's generation of demon gods. Over the generations, they had collected a vast number of magical books, many of which were not part of their Asgardian magic system and could only be referenced.

Even now, Odin would occasionally read these books, but Thor didn't have the patience for it.

He's the type who just thinks with his muscles, a hammer-swinging, brute-force kind of guy. He doesn't care about magic at all. He's a waste of potential in Asgard. So, what's wrong with letting Lin Feng borrow it?

"I'll have it sent over later. But for now, I need to take Thor back. He needs some time to consolidate his Divine Spark. Please excuse us, both of you!" Odin said.

"Feel free to go, Your Majesty," Ancient One nodded.

Odin then called out to Heimdall. Instantly, the Bifrost enveloped them, taking the two of them away.

After that, only Ancient One and Lin Feng remained in the Mirror Dimension.

"Do you like magic?" Ancient One asked Lin Feng.

While she was watching Lin Feng earlier, she noticed he used a dimensional portal, a technique specific to Kamar-Taj.

"Yes, I've been studying some recently," Lin Feng replied. "I'm just showing off my limited skills, I'm afraid I've made a fool of myself in front of you, Ancient One."

He was nervous, afraid that the Ancient One would ask him why he knew the spells of Kamar-Taj. If they ended up fighting, he was probably no match for her.

But he wasn't entirely without a chance. Even if his magical abilities were multiplied tenfold, he still likely wouldn't be able to defeat the Ancient One.

However, the Ancient One's weakness was her physical body, as evidenced by the fact that Kaecilius had managed to stab her.

So, every muscle in his body was tense.

Seeing Lin Feng's nervousness, the Ancient One smiled slightly and said, "There's no need to be nervous, Mr. Lin Feng. I have no ill intentions towards you. As long as you stand on the side of Earth, on the side of humanity, we will not be enemies."

Lin Feng breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. Clearly, a figure of the Ancient One's caliber, who was also aligned with the forces of good, wouldn't make things difficult for him on this matter.

What truly relieved him was the implication in the Ancient One's words: it seemed she was willing to accept him, an outsider.

When he had first arrived in this world, he had been most wary of two groups of people.

The Ancient One could see the future. Although she hid it well, a butterfly flapping its wings in South America was enough to stir up a storm that could brew into a tempest over the Pacific.

Even if he kept a low profile, it was hard to say whether he would affect the birth of Doctor Strange.

He feared that if he did something in the future, the Ancient One might deal with him ahead of time.

The other major concern was the TVA, a super-powerful organization that was currently beyond his ability to handle. His only hope, naturally, was Loki.

Only Loki, as the God of Stories, could fundamentally resolve the fear that Lin Feng felt deep inside.

So he had been trying to avoid meeting the Ancient One. This encounter seemed to have gone relatively well.

There was no tension, no need to fight to the death. The Ancient One didn't seem very concerned about his origins. As long as he was human, standing on the side of humanity and Earth, he was a friend.

But then Lin Feng thought about it, and that made sense.

If this were his previous life, anyone facing a fellow transmigrator probably couldn't stay calm. But this was the Marvel Universe, after all. The Ancient One had seen it all.
