Chapter 86 - CHAPTER 85

Scene — The Performance

(Hazel, Aurora, Dior and Zia stand under warm stage lights. Each girl tosses in their signature ad-lib: "Red crush!" Crowd cheers.)

Hazel (Red crush 🥰)

Aurora (Red)

Dior (crush)

Zia (Red crushhhhhhh)

Dior

Once I was seven years old, my momma told me —

Go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely.

Once I was seven years old...

Aurora

It was a big, big world, but we thought we were bigger,

Pushing one another, learning faster and quicker.

By eleven we were smoking herb, drinking liquor,

Never rich — just chasing that steady figure.

Zia

Once I was eleven years old, my daddy told me,

"Go get yourself a wife, or you'll be lonely."

Once I was eleven years old...

Dior

I always had that dream like my daddy before me,

So I started writing songs, started writing stories.

Something about the glory never felt like home —

Only those I love will ever really know me.

Aurora

Once I was twenty, my story got told

Before the morning sun, when nights felt lonely.

Once I was twenty years old.

(Red crushhhhhhh)

Zia

I only see my goals — failure's not in my plan.

Smallest voices turn major when you take a stand.

I've got my girls with me, friends who favor

And if we don't meet again, I hope I'll see you later.

Hazel

Once I was twenty, my story was told,

I wrote about everything I saw unfold.

Once I was twenty years old.

(They sing together)

Soon we'll be thirty — our songs sold, passports stamped, still roaming.

We'll be thirty years old.

Dior

I'm still learning life; my woman brought children for me

So I can sing my songs and pass down every story.

Most of my girls are with me, some still seeking glory;

Some I had to leave — my brother, I'm sorry.

Dior (cont'd)

Soon I'll be sixty, my daddy got to sixty-one.

Remember life, and your life becomes a better one.

I made him proud when I wrote a letter once;

Hope my children visit, at least once or twice a month.

Aurora

Soon I'll be sixty — will I think the world is cold,

Or will I have children who can warm my fold?

Soon I'll be sixty years old.

Zia

Soon I'll be sixty — will the world feel cold,

Or will there be hands to hold when I grow old?

Soon I'll be sixty years old.

Hazel

Once I was seven, my mama told me,

"Go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely."

Once I was seven years old.

Dior (belting, playful)

Once I was seven years olddddddd — Red crushhhhhhh!

(The crowd erupts in applause. The girls take their bows. Zia leans into the mic, smiling.)

Zia

I heard a little bird say someone here's a fan of ours.

Dior (warm)

We're so honoured to be here. We never thought we'd get to meet the legendary Miss Mirabel and Tracy — or even perform at their wedding.

Aurora

Congratulations on your marriage. Some of the pieces we're wearing were inspired by Miss Mirabel herself.

Hazel (grinning)

When we heard Mr. Lucian asked us to perform on the wedding set, we accepted in a heartbeat.

(Mirabel covers her mouth, touched. The audience murmurs approval.)

Zia

For our last song—

Aurora

—we'll be doing "Typa Girl."

We heard this is the bride's favorite.

Dior (in her British accent)

We hope you enjoy.

Hazel (mock-intimidating Dior's accent — audience laughs)

Uh — Red crush in your areaaaaaaa!

(Beat. The beat drops. They launch into the chorus.)

Dior

Typa girl that'll make you wanna dream.

Aurora

Typa girl that came straight off the screen.

Hazel

Typa girl you wanna ice up, make me freeze.

Zia

Typa girl you wanna wife up, sign the pre—

Aurora

I bring money to the table — not your dinner.

Body and bank account — that's the figure.

Thinkin' 'bout me? Well, you've got no leverage.

If I let you in my circle, boy, you better measure.

Dior

Didn't know you were cold till you felt my fire,

Heaven's gate opened up — choirs hit higher.

Say something else? Nah — you a liar.

Hazel

I'm that girl that drives you crazy, you can't leave me alone.

Got you thinking maybe I went supernatural — flown.

Aurora

Put you under spells or let the crystal fall;

I'm not like these other girls at all.

Zia

I'm the typa girl who makes you forget your type,

Make you fall for me when all you did was like.

(All together)

I'm that typa girl — I'm that typa girl.

I'm that typa girl — I'm that typa girl.

(Zia and Hazel trade the little vocal hook.)

Zia / Hazel

Like du-du-dun, du-du-du-dun...

(Hazel raps the bridge—confident, fast.)

Hazel

I'm the type of girl that everybody types,

Double tap, tap, tap — all the likes.

Check my stats, I got everybody's eye,

I run laps round your mind while you just try.

All these girls on some uppercase flex,

But I'm the one who's really next.

Being the best's just in my brand —

I do my thing, I take my stand.

Dior

Typa girl you wish for when you blow out the candle.

Zia

Typa girl you wanna bring home to your mama.

Hazel

Typa girl who don't ask — she takes what she wants.

Aurora

Typa girl with a bag — quality like Chanel.

(All together, final chorus, crowd singing with them.)

Zia

Now you know you were cold because you felt my fire.

Heaven opened up — listen to the choir.

Say something else? Nah — you a liar.

Aurora & Hazel

I'm that girl that drives you crazy, you can't leave me alone.

Maybe I went supernatural, set your mind to roam.

Dior

I'm the typa girl that makes you forget your type.

Aurora

I'm that typa girl, I'm that typa girl.

Zia / Hazel

Like du-du-dun, du-du-du-dun...

(They finish, breathless and radiant. The applause swells. Mirabel and Tracy stand, clapping with tears in their eyes. The girls take a planted bow — this is the exact moment their careers, and memories, sharpen into something unforgettable.)
