Chapter 39 - Kyson's Motive

Kyson was stunned for a moment.

Then he understood, "You mean to say, monsters are attacking the town?"

He asked with a deep frown in between his brows.

Master Virgo nodded.

"That's right. This is a beast tide."

Humans and monsters are inherently incompatible with each other.

No matter the situation, the two sides will always fall into a conflict and fight one another when they meet.

It is something ingrained deep in their own blood.

Just like humans who attack monster settlements, monsters also attack human towns and cities.

And those attacks are called beast tides.

While most monsters lack the ability to think in sophisticated ways, there are still monsters with unnaturally high intelligence.

Those types of creatures are usually the one who initiates and commands beast tides.

…

After hearing that it's a beast tide, Kyson looks thoughtful.

Information about beast tides are also shared by the government.

Because it is related to the safety of everyone in the city, the government added great emphasis on it in the information they disseminated.

So, Kyson also knows what a beast tide is.

While he was still thinking, Grandmaster Virgo suddenly placed his hand on his shoulder.

Kyson looked at him and found that he's staring at him directly with a serious look in his eyes.

"Boy, I suggest you go back with this girl to your own city. When beast tides occur, it is an inevitable fact that there will always be casualties."

"Because sometimes, even those soldiers, mercenaries, and adventurers can't fully stop all the monsters from entering the town."

"That's why it is better for the two of you to go back to your city. That way, you'll be safer."

Kyson listened to Grandmaster Virgo's words and thought for a moment.

Looking around, Kyson saw some kids peeking out of the window of their houses, looking at the soldiers innocently.

They do not know where those soldiers are going and what they are going to do, but they admire them.

Because of one simple reason.

They look cool!

Seeing those innocent kids, Kyson thought about the fact that Grandmaster Virgo told him that casualties are inevitable.

Thinking that those kids might fall prey to monsters, he frowned.

In the end, Kyson shook his head to Grandmaster Virgo's suggestion.

"I will take a look at the situation first, Grandmaster Virgo. If the situation really becomes bad here, I will immediately run back to Porac City."

"For now, I'll try to see what I can do to help with the defense."

After saying that, Kyson said a few more words to Grandmaster Virgo and immediately followed the flow of soldiers to their destination.

Watching Kyson blend with the people, Grandmaster Virgo sighed and turned his attention to Melody.

"How about you, girl? What do you plan to do?"

For a moment, Melody hesitated and didn't want to know how to answer.

After a few seconds, she reluctantly said, "I, I want to help as well. But I'm just level 2. There's nothing I can do in this situation. I better just go back to Porac City."

When she said those, Melody looked sad and annoyed at herself.

When beast tide occurs, it is normal for everyone to be in chaos.

In that kind of environment, a level 2 individual like her will just become a hindrance.

At worst, she could even die.

Thinking of this, Melody didn't dare to go to the front lines.

Looking at her behaving this way, Grandmaster Virgo thought of something and he immediately said,

"How about this, I know something you can do to help the situation without you going there. So, do you want to try it?"

Hearing that, Melody hesitated for a bit before nodding.

"Okay, if I can be of help, I'll do it."

"Great! Come, come. Let's go inside."

Grandmaster Virgo beckoned at Melody and the two of them went back inside the shop.

…

After following the group of armed soldiers and mercenaries, Kyson arrived at the gate of the Vitri Town.

Unlike in Porac City, the walls of Vitri Town are a lot higher and thicker.

As for the gate, it was just like the one you'll see in medieval times.

At this time, there are already soldiers on top of the wall. Some of them are holding bows, showing their role in this defense.

Kyson also climbed up the walls and saw the scenery behind it.

Squinting his eyes, about 2 kilometers away, a thick cloud of dust could be seen rolling.

Along with it, the loud thundering sound coming from the earth could also be heard.

Without a doubt, it was the army of monsters that was rushing towards Vitri Town to attack.

"Beast tide…" Kyson muttered.

Closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, when he opened them again, a flash of excitement could be seen in his eyes.

"Maybe I can gain a lot of benefits from this beast tide."

Thinking about this, Kyson can't help but start feeling expectant.

While Kyson's reason for being here is to protect innocent people, he actually also has other motives.

It's simple.

Kyson wants to harvest those monsters and turn them into experience points.

Since hunting in the forest is quite time consuming, this beast tide is just the perfect event for him to raise his level.

Jumping from the top of the wall, Kyson landed in front of the town gate.

Except for him, there is no one else outside the town.

All of them are inside, waiting for the beast tide to hit the town.

At this time, those people saw Kyson and can't help but remind him.

"Hey, kid, come back here immediately. Those beasts are about to come."

"Yeah, hurry up if you don't want to turn into a patty paste under the foot of those monsters!"

"You look so young. Are you a rookie adventurer? Don't just stand there and come up here!"

Hearing those words, Kyson turned around and looked at them.

Suddenly, the air seems to solidify.
