(Author Note - I really don't like describing people, it's a pain so here is Noah, and Kyra except Kyra is wearing a black hoodie, this was the closest thing the female model had to somethingKyra might wear.)
Aunt Hannah stayed with us for the rest of the week, on the final day as she was packing up her stuff I noticed that Lilligant was leading Petilil somewhere I didn't stop her. They returned just after dinner. I noticed that Petilil was being carried by Lilligant, both of their eyes a little red.
Soon we all said goodbye to aunt Hannah and her Pokemon. Now I had just under six months before I would go on my journey, deciding to make the most of it I decided to train with Petilil.
Me and Petilil's training was slightly complicated, Petilil didn't have any hands/fingers, they had little nubs that passed for hands. With what I could remember about Petilil, the limited use of the internet, and going to the local library I only found disappointment.
Petilil didn't have many offensive moves, Petilil could mainly learn status effecting moves or moves that slowly chipped away other pokemon's health. While an easy way to help her learn moves would be to use TMs, they were very expensive.
I wasn't worried though, for now until Petilil evolved she would be the pokemon that would weaken other pokemon then give them a dose of her stun spore so my other pokemon could beat them.
When I initially told her this she looked down, disappointed that she wouldn't be the main battler, that was until I showed her some moves she could learn such as energy ball, and magical leaf. Energy ball was self explanatory, it was the grass version of an energy ball type move, like electro ball or shadow ball.
Magical leaf however was different, this move had the bonus of never missing unless under special circumstances. Until Petilil learned these moves she would have to focus on support.
Our training had yielded some progress, the first move we worked on was Petilil's main form of attack absorb. I had her train her moves on a local group of Slowpoke down the river, the Slowpoke didn't mind, I just brought them a bunch of berries.
To improve absorb I had Petilil condense the energy she felt around her and try to add it into absorb. The first few days there wasn't any progress, by the fourth day there was a spark then after some more time a shining green orb emerged.
Jumping off the Slowpoke I was using as a seat I rushed over to Petilil, "congratulations Petilil you learned mega drain!!"
picking her up I tossed her in the air, after catching her I kept doing it, Petilil seemed to like it because she was giggling the whole time.
"Slow", the Slowpoke that Petilil had used mega drain on finally reacted in all its infinite wisdom, Slowpoke, were well slow as you can imagine, but they were adorable especially with their derpy faces.
While Petilil was training I was practicing water bending with the river, so far I accomplished a few new tricks, first trick I could freely manipulate water into anything I imagined as long as there was enough water nearby to make it.
The second trick was walking on water, I could absorb the water while I was walking on it so I didn't need to drink any, just leave my foot in water and I was good.
After Petilil learned mega drain I wanted to focus on her mobility. What is the use of a strong move if it doesn't hit the enemy pokemon?
Controlling the water to clear a spot in the middle of the river I placed Petilil down, "ok Petilil this is evasion training, all I want you to do is not get hit by any water." Petilil just looked confused then nodded.
I backed away and created a water dome around Petilil's position, "Petilil?"
"Okay Petilil I'm going to launch forms of water at you, I want you to dodge them." Then I sank into the river to start the training.
Petilil by the end of the training had a glassy eyed look as she was completely drenched, deciding to call it for the day, recalling her into her pokeball I headed home. Today was Saturday so only momma would be home.
Approaching the house I saw momma in the front yard tending to her flowers with Leavanny helping her, and Vanillite holding an assortment of gardening tools in a bag looking like any kid dragged to the store by their parents, bored out of their mind.
"Hi momma", I called to her getting her attention, "oh Hi Hikari, your back early is everything okay?" she called looking concerned. "No I'm fine, Petilil just got drenched and wanted to go home." I said holding back a laugh as I felt her ball shift in my hand
"Isn't Petilil a grass type, what did do to her?", momma said while narrowing her eyes while giving me a scary smile, giving her a sheepish smile in return I answered her, "haha, yea I used my water abilities to train her to better evade attacks."
Mom and dad were well aware of my special condition, when I was little I had to spend a lot of time in doctor's offices and a few researchers here and there. Aside from showing that I could somewhat control water and turn into water I didn't show anything else to the researchers.
They just assumed it was some long forgotten ability humans used to have and I just had an affinity towards it.
People in the pokemon world were much more durable here than in my previous life. I mean look at how many times Ash got struck by Pikachu's lightning and he was able to walk it off in a few minutes. Another thing was people could use psychic abilities or aura abilities.
However, to mom and dad I showed them what I could do without holding back, they both knew what I could do.
"Fine Hikari, just don't traumatize her too much." Momma said then went back to her flowers, while I pouted at her I noticed Vanillite coming out from the house with a bowl of popcorn. After looking around it noticed that momma had already gone back to her flowers, Vanillite looked like it had been robbed of a show.
Going into the house I saw Shinx on the couch, he just opened one eye and noticed me, then went back to sleep. After entering my room I released Petilil onto my desk, after she dried off she still seemed down, "Hey Petilil, today's training didn't go as well as you thought it would?"
Petilil looked down, and slightly mumbled, "ilil" in confirmation to my words. "Look Petilil, that is what training is for, to practice so that in a fight the enemy pokemon will get as frustrated as you are right now at not being able to hit you. The faster you are the less likely you are to get hit by enemy attack meaning you will be able to battle longer."
Petilil still looked down but she seemed to be contemplating my words. I left her to her thoughts, Petilil eventually came downstairs and spent the rest of the day by the space heater.
Near the end of the day she finally approached me. "Petilil!!", she stated while looking at me, Petilil looked more determined than I had ever seen her. "You want to continue training?" I asked, Petilil, Petilil was still looking up at me with determination in her eyes, "Petilil".
I just grinned, "then lets get started."
Time went on, days turned into weeks, then months I went to school, got into some slight trouble with my friends earning a few scoldings here, and there but all was fine in the end. Something else I found out was Lucas had a twin named Dawn.
Dawn had mainly been homeschooled by her mom, learning to become a pokemon coordinator and breeder from their mom. The only reason I had found out about her was because she had crashed into me while riding her bike.
Later when I had confronted Lucas he just gave me a nervous smile and said he forgot to mention he had a twin, right I forgot unless you explicitly asked a guy about a specific topic they wouldn't mention anything.
My tenth birth came and went it was a fun day, when I came back to school the next day I was given a card with a picture of three pokemon, Turtwig, Piplup, and Chimchar, the card also had a date on it set for two weeks from my birthday, so I barely made the deadline to join everyone.
Now the day was here the day we would pick our starter pokemon, and go on our journey. I had registered to pick my Sinnoh starter with Noah, and Barry. I felt like a kid on Christmas meaning I had a hard time falling asleep, now dragging myself out of bed I made my way to the bathroom before Vanillite came upstairs.
After finishing the morning routine and brushing my teeth, now more awake I looked in the mirror, most of the baby fat had disappeared, I had gotten a little taller, I was happy.
I had packed everything I thought I would need, warm clothes, traveling gear, camping gear, extra food for me and whatever pokemon I would catch, miscellaneous stuff. All that fit in my backpack, it still amazed me that a giant Wailord could fit in something barely bigger than a tennis ball.
I had a satchel with all the necessary pokemon healing items and extra balls from dad's store. Then finally there was my wallet pouch and Petilil's pokeball, instead of keeping her ball on a belt I put her ball with my wallet in my body. Seriously, with how many times trainers had their pokeballs stolen by some random device team rocket got from Doofenshmirtz was ridiculous.
Still it made me paranoid, so whenever I would go to use Petilil I would reach into my bag then pop out her ball from my hand while it was in my bag. I pondered this while getting dressed, looking in the mirror I had my blue hoodie on with some comfy band new jeans and mountain hiking boots.
I was ready, my backpack also was a camel back so I wouldn't have to worry about water for a long time. Heading downstairs I saw my parents and their pokemon waiting in the living room. There was a banner that said goodbye Hikari, I loved it.
Momma was in tears while dad was giving me a supportive smile, "do you have everything? please be careful Hikari, know that if you come back early there's no shame in that. Just please be carefull." Momma said.
"Don't forget to take care of your pokemon, remember to call home when you get to a pokemon center." my dad said, "shinx, shinx", "lea, Leavanny", "Vanillite", all the pokemon added their various inputs, "I love you all" I said as I gave my parents a hug, then gave one to Leavanny, rubbed Shinx's head, and gave Vanillite a fist bump.
"Yes I have everything, I will call you when I get to Jubilife city, see ya" I said walking out of the house. Exhaling after I closed the door, I left to meet up with my friends.
Me, Barry, Noah, and Kyra were going to head to Professor Rowan's lab in Sandgem town to get our pokemon and our pokedex.
Kyra was going with us but just for her pokedex, she was still adamant about her all ghost type team. We had decided to meet at the outskirts of town near route one.
Kyra was the last to arrive, when we all saw her we had to rub our eyes to take in the sight. Kyra was on her back on a dolly with some pillows, and Misdreavus was holding a rope pulling her along, as Kyra got closer I noticed something else even more incredible.
"Kyra you got a haircut?!", at my words Kyra raised her eyebrow "really that's the first thing you ask me?", "yes of course, you always had messy hair that covered your face, look at you you look amazing." I said while giving her a thumbs up.
"Well of course I had to, especially for today, we get our picture taken when we start our journey and if we make it into the conference that's the photo they use." Kyra with her new appearance had cut her hair down to shoulder length with dark purple tips at the end. With her hair out the way you could see her light pink eyes.
"So why are you on a dolly?" Barry asked, "hm, that's because Misdreavus broke one of my parent's vases. When my parents found out they threatened to punish Misdreavus by leaving her alone with Tina, my barbie, pink, fairy type loving sister for an hour or to get creative with a punishment."
I had only met Kyra's sister a few times, Tina was Kyra's younger sister and the complete opposite of Kyra in terms of interests, both were fun to be around but if a Sylveon turned into a person, it would look like Tina. At the mention of Tina, Misdreavus shuttered in pure terror, and kept pulling Kyra who was still on the dolly"
"Oh, hey Noah, are you ready for your first pokemon?" Kyra said as she finally noticed Noah who had just been quiet the entire time. Noah, who looked like he was in a daze snapped back into reality, "hehe, yea I'm ready to get my first pokemon."
We all started walking at Misdreavus's pulling pace, it took us forty five minutes to get to Professor Rowan's lab. When we got near town Kyra covered herself with a blanket, we got some odd and concerned looks from people passing by, but after I kicked Kyra earning a startled yelp from her confirming she wasn't a corpse so we didn't get officer Jenny called on us.
We got to the lab before our scheduled time and professor Rowan wasn't there, while we waited we got our pokedexes, I took a blue one, Barry took a yellow one, Kyra took a purple one, and Noah took the orange one.
After we got our pokedexes we were scanning the pokemon that were in the room, including all the starters. Midway through scanning them the Chimcar took some of Piplup's food, which spiraled into a fight where they accidently pissed off a Staraptor one of the researchers had brought in, that broke and flew out the window. The two pokemon escaped out the broken widow leaving behind a Turtwig who was still munching on his food.
We ran after them, on the way out we saw Dawn and Lucas along with professor Rowan, Barry being the first to notice them filled them in on the details "Chimchar started a fight by taking Piplup's food, that pissed off Piplup and now we have missing pokemon."
Professor Rowan, cut in "alright, I need to clean up the mess in the lab. Can you all try to find the pokemon? I'll ring a loud bell for you all so you know when to come back."
After we all nodded in confirmation, Dawn and Lucas who had bikes were the first to zoom off, we ran into the forest we spent twenty minutes in before we heard the bell. When I arrived back with everyone Dawn was holding Piplup, and Barry had the Chimchar but they were both covered in spider webs.
Professor Rowan looking at us chuckled, "I think at least two of you have found your starter."
Both Dawn and Barry hugged their respective pokemon, "as for you four, let me get out the next batch of starters" said professor Rowan.
After a few minutes he came back with multiple pokeballs, as he released them, I looked at Noah, he looked at me, we had discussed with Barry who we would choose, Barry got the pokemon he wanted Chimchar.
"I choose, Piplup" I said, "I choose Turtwig" said Noah, Rowan turned to Lucas, "I choose Chimchar".
"Hello Piplup, are you a Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, or Private? I am Hikari, and I will be your trainer", the Piplup just looked at me confused, but just shrugged and accepted it's life.
The only one left was the original Turtwig from the first batch
Professor Rowan despite his mustache that made it hard to see smiled "sorry Turtwig maybe another trainer will come for you, good choices all of you, I wish you all luck on your journey"
(Author Note - yea I completely forgot Dawn was from Twinleaf Town, in my defense I have never seen pokemon diamond and pearl or played the games. Why did decide to write a pokemon fic if I don't know jack shit about it? Because while I know Kanto by heart I feel like everyone does Kanto. I barely see ones about Sinnoh and judge me all you want but I really like this region, plus I felt like pokemon would be a good starting point for writing.)
