Chapter 5 - Strange Things

The stranger waited patiently, sensing a strategy taking shape. For a moment, he allowed himself to be distracted by this world—the calmness of it all. Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war hold different values, a wise man once said. The stranger came from a land steeped in chaos—a millennium-long war inching toward its climax. This new world had already overcome its great conflict; it was living in an era of peace. In many ways, he envied that. He had longed for this. Soon, he thought to himself.

Naruto began forming another Rasengan, this time far larger than before. Blue blinding flashes of light emerged from the violently spinning ball of chakra.

"Let me ask you", the stranger began, his voice calm yet probing, "when you finally manage to catch me off guard with that enormous ball of destructive energy—gifted to you by whatever resides inside you—what do you call it?"

Just how far into the future can he see!? Kurama growled in disbelief.

"A Tailed Beast Bomb", Naruto answered, almost feeling defeated.

"With its size and the speed you've mastered in conjuring it", the stranger continued, sharpness slipping into his tone, "what happens if this occurs: a direct hit would kill me. Do you intend that? And if I position myself toward your village, your attack could pass through me and devastate everything behind me. I sense a great many lives in that direction", his eyes narrowed. "If I dodge—because I already know where and when it's coming—that same attack could obliterate your village. Have you thought this through?"

A loud silence echoed through the forest.

"Your weapon", the stranger said, his grip tightening around his sword, "is terrifyingly strong. It was never meant to be used as a threat—it was made for action", he stepped forward, his presence heavy. "Now that it has come to this, are you willing to stake your life on it?"

He leaped forward towards Naruto in deafening speed. How can speed be deafening you ask? When it travels faster than sound and you can't hear a thing. He swung his sword at Naruto, who managed to evade it just in time with a quick jump to his side. The stranger chased after him, this time, in blinding speed. I presume you understand how speed can be blinding.

Naruto slipped past the second strike and countered, spinning into position to drive a kick into the stranger's back. In that instant, their speed was nearly equal. His foot was a breath away from making contact—then he froze. Awestruck.

He jumped back to regain his cool.

What was that!? he thought, utterly shocked.

"I believe", Kurama rumbled, his voice edged with unease, "we just caught a glimpse of the future."
