Chapter 11 - By The Books

"These transfers usually fade once the person leaves," said the stranger. "You won't be able to see into the future much longer after I'm gone. There are anomalies, of course, but this is how it typically works. The more time I spend here, the more I do, the more you learn about me—the greater the chances for such anomalies to occur. That's why I thought it best not to engage in a full battle with you. I must leave quickly. From what I've observed of your world, seeing the spillage, every transfer I've caused here should fade within a week or two. Reality will return to normal after that, and Haki—and its techniques—will no longer exist here."

Naruto's chest tightened. So that was it? This new edge, this glimpse into the future—it was already slipping away. He'd only just gotten used to it.

"Cheer up, kid," Kurama grumbled from inside. "You've been fighting idiots stronger than you without peeking into tomorrow your whole life. You don't need some fancy trick."

Maybe not, Naruto thought back, but it was nice while it lasted.

"However," the stranger continued, "there has already been another guest before me. His name is Zoro, a swordsman of incredible skill. We have no idea what he did during his time here, but we know for certain that he has left. You must ensure he did not leave behind anything that could alter the fabric of your reality. Trace his steps. Confirm no anomalies remain. Do you understand?"

Naruto nodded, "so what exactly am I looking for? People affected by this Zoro guy so much that they can use Haki, or… something else entirely?"

"It could be anything," sighed the stranger. "The transference is unpredictable. Anything unusual that doesn't belong to your world might have been caused by his presence here. Of course, the transfer stopped the moment he exited. It may already be fading as we speak. But if he exerted himself too much, spilling too much of his reality into yours, the results could be dangerous—altering your reality in peculiar ways, even creating new ones. That would be disastrous, as it could damage your very existence. Do you understand?"

Naruto nodded, but it was all starting to feel like too much. He needed to simplify things, focus on only the important bits, set context straight, ask the real questions.

"You can tell me his name and things about him because he's already left this world—he can't cause more spillage. But you can't do the same for yourself because you're still here, still causing an overlap between worlds. That's why you must leave quickly. So you want me to investigate this intruder Zoro, and make sure everything stays the way it is."

"Yes. This is standard practice for Timekeepers," the stranger said, pleased with how quickly Naruto had pieced it together. "I understand this is your first time, and it's all new to you. What we're doing here is very much by the book. During such intrusions, this way of passing on information and tasks minimizes interference while ensuring order is restored. You should really look into that Time Scroll when you get the chance. It contains guidelines, manuals, even FAQs. The Council did a fine job putting it together—especially after she became involved."
