The emergency lights blinked on dimly, casting long shadows through the Wolfe estate. The faint red glow barely lit the hallway as Ethan sprinted toward the nursery, his heart pounding so hard he could feel it in his throat.
Talia was right behind him, barefoot, breathless, fear clawing up her spine.
The nursery door was ajar.
"Luna? Zane?" Talia cried.
Ethan pushed the door open fully, only to find the twins fast asleep in their cribs. Untouched. Peaceful. The soft hum of their white noise machine buzzed through the room like nothing had happened.
But the baby monitor on the table was blinking. Red. Still recording.
Talia rushed in, scooping Luna into her arms. "She was here, Ethan. I heard her."
Ethan stepped over to the monitor, snatching it up. "This wasn't hacked remotely. This… was close. She's near."
His phone vibrated.
Blocked number.
He answered. "Vanessa..."
A deep, distorted male voice cut him off.
"Tell your wife to sleep with one eye open."
