Chapter 3 - The Candidate

Elizabeth Jane sat at her glass desk, the list of potential replacements spread neatly before her. Each name had been carefully vetted by her assistant, but Jane's brown eyes missed nothing. She scanned each resume, mentally weighing skills, experience, and, of course, the subtle aura of confidence or lack thereof, that she could sense even from a page.

Most names were predictable. Ordinary. Safe. Forgettable. Jane didn't hire ordinary. She didn't hire safe. She hired results. She hired people who could keep up with her—or fail spectacularly.

Then she paused. One name made her eyebrow lift slightly: Floriano Pierro.

His resume was impeccable—education, experience, skills, references. But there was something else… something about the way it was presented. Precise, neat, almost… meticulous. Jane's curiosity sparked.

"Set up an interview," she instructed her assistant, her tone firm and decisive. "I want him in my office by tomorrow morning."

A tiny smile curved her lips. It wasn't often that someone caught her attention on paper alone. Usually, it took seeing them in action, measuring their resolve, their composure. But this one… she wanted to see for herself.

She felt a flicker of anticipation, just a flicker—for the man she had yet to meet.
