Hunger Beyond Hunger
The System pulsed violently, as if alive.

Kael's veins burned, black fire threading through his body. His hunger — no longer just for matter, or energy, but for existence itself — clawed at his sanity.
In the void of his mind, he saw others. Shapes, vast and alien, bearing fragments of systems not unlike his. All of them devouring. All of them ruined.
One raised its head, and its faceless maw opened.
It saw him.
The System screamed and severed the vision.
Kael collapsed, trembling. He was not the only one chosen.
