Chapter 53 - Returning to the village

Han Jianyou didn't think that he did anything wrong. He had been hoping for his family to pay for his fees for a while now, and they didn't do it. How could this be blamed on him? This was too much. It was unfair. He felt like a withered cabbage about whom no one cared. And on top of it, his sister started beating him the second she saw him. She didn't ask him how he was or how he was doing; she just started beating him.

He felt so wronged that he wanted to cry, but Han Jianyou didn't want to give the satisfaction of crying to his sister. He pursed his lips and glared at her angrily.

When Han Ruochen heard his blame, she didn't feel sorry; instead, she felt even more annoyed. She raised the thin stick and smacked him right across his calves again. She sneered and coldly said to Han Jianyou, "Are you trying to act smart with me now? If you didn't receive the fees, then you should have returned home and asked our dad. I understand that Mom has always been biased when it came to us, but Dad is the fairest. If you had asked him to pay for your school fees, do you think he would have ignored you?"

Han Jianyou was surprised when he heard his sister admit that their mother was biased. Usually, his sister told him not to speak nonsense. But now the same sister was telling him that their mom was unusually biased? He looked at Han Ruochen, and for a second, he forgot his anger toward her and questioned, "Sister, are you really my sister? I am telling you, imposter, even if you kidnap me, there is nothing that you can grab from me. You'd better try to kidnap my mom's adoptive daughter; that way, you will get more money than kidnapping me."

After speaking, Han Jianyou shrivelled up. He didn't want to admit it either, but it seemed like his mother liked Han Ziyan more than she liked him. Thus, his condition was no better than that of orphans whose mothers didn't want them.

When Han Ruochen heard his remark, she felt her heart ache. She realised that her mother had been way crueller than she gave her credit for. She sighed and then said to her brother, "What nonsense are you spouting? Get up. We will go to Dad, and you can ask him to pay for your fees. I have already asked your homeroom teacher for a day off."

Han Jianyou's mouth dropped open, and it dropped even further when he saw Han Beijiang waiting for Han Ruochen. What was even more surprising was that Han Beijiang actually reached out to hold Han Ruochen and accepted her hug without pushing her away. Since when did this little brat become so nice and docile? The last time he reached out to hug Han Beijiang, this brat had kicked him in the face so ferociously that he nearly knocked a tooth out.

Why was he treating Han Ruochen so well?

Han Jianyou parted his lips, but then he thought things through and swallowed back. He looked at the two of them and suddenly felt a bit lonely seeing how caring and attentive Han Ruochen was toward Han Beijiang. He was the one who was suffering the most, so why was Han Ruochen only taking care of Han Beijiang and not him? Why was he the one being left behind once again?

Just as the feelings of sadness started to rise in his heart, Han Ruochen, who was walking ahead, turned to look behind. She frowned when she saw the dark emotions swirling in the eyes of the little boy behind her. She knew very well, of course, what Han Jianyou was thinking. Ever since he was a kid, he had always been a little too sensitive, thanks to their mother's constant brainwashing, where she kept telling Han Jianyou that he was not worth anything and would never amount to anything in his life.

Coupled with the years of neglect that he went through at the hands of their mother, it only intensified the bitter emotions that he had been suppressing in her heart. If not, then Han Jianyou would never have joined those thugs, and he would have never gotten involved in stealing and robbing people. It was all because of the lack of care that he received in the hands of their parents that he turned into a criminal.

Han Ruochen sighed. She didn't blame her second brother. As she knew that it was the fault of their parents and her as well. Both of her elder siblings were gone and were involved in their own troubles, and as she was the only one who could have taken care of him, she should have seen through his troubles. Sighing, she said to Han Jianyou, "What are you standing there for? Come with me; don't you want to go home?"

Han Jianyou snapped his head up and was stunned when he saw Han Ruochen waiting for him. His cold heart warmed up slightly as he looked at his sister, who was waiting for him. He expected her to leave him alone and wait for him to catch up to her. He never thought that she was actually waiting for him.

However, when he opened his mouth, he couldn't help but say something harsh. "Humph, who wants to go with you? Do you think I am a dog whom you could call and send back as you want?" Though he said that he still followed Han Ruochen back to the fishing village.

And as soon as he returned to the village, Han Jianyou attracted the attention of the entire village with just one single appearance. In just a matter of time, Han Ruochen and Han Jianyou ended up attracting the attention of an entire horde of people.

"Jianyou, what are you doing here?"

"Jianyou, did you get into trouble again?"

"I know that you are having a hard time, Jianyou, but you should think about your father at least."
