Chapter 48 - Chapter 48 – Mastering All Profound Mysteries of the Laws of Darkness, Soul Protection Mechanism

Soon after, dark energy began to stir around Sadius once again.

Previously, Sadius had only comprehended the elemental Profound Mystery of darkness.

But after watching the battle between Beirut and Bluefire, he had grasped all five of the remaining Profound Mysteries of the Laws of Darkness.

To comprehend so many mysteries simply by watching a battle—such talent was exceedingly rare across the entire universe.

Sadius suddenly realized that he possessed remarkable comprehension in many areas.

The Laws of the Earth, the Laws of Darkness, and even the Edicts of Destruction. Not long ago, he'd even discovered an impressive talent for magic arrays.

Could it be that his trilinear soul mutation had enhanced his comprehension?

As of now, Sadius had already entered the doorway of all Profound Mysteries of both the Earth and Darkness. Only the Edicts of Destruction remained—after having grasped the Profound Mystery of Destruction's Sword of Slaughter, he hadn't made progress in any other aspects.

Since he had now entered the threshold of both the Laws of Earth and Darkness, it was only natural for Sadius to begin fusing the Profound Mysteries of each law type as soon as possible. The earlier one began fusing mysteries, the better. Waiting until one became a Highgod would make the fusion process far more difficult.

Above them, the two powerful experts were still locked in combat. Shockwaves blasted forth, creating massive waves, and even space itself seemed to grow fragile.

Beirut's divine darkness clone wasn't currently on the Yulan continent. What they were seeing was only his true body using darkness-type divine power. Yet with the backing of his Chief Sovereign's might, even his attacks using the Laws of Darkness were extraordinary.

The two battled for a long time, their performance evenly matched.

But Sadius knew full well—Beirut was holding back.

Even without Sovereign power, Beirut could instantly defeat Bluefire by unleashing his Power of Will.

But Beirut clearly didn't wish to go that far.

"Bluefire, your strength truly exceeded my expectations. Therefore, I've made a decision."

"Let's hear it," Bluefire replied calmly.

"I've decided to open the Necropolis of the Gods ahead of schedule. I hope you'll participate."

"You're not afraid that I'll obtain a Sovereign artifact and surpass you?"

"Haha, of course not. Below the level of Paragon, defeating me is impossible."

Bluefire sensed no falsehood in Beirut's words. After all, Beirut hadn't even used his innate divine ability yet.

"Our battle was enlightening. Let's call it here for today."

"In that case, shall we return to the topic of Sadius?"

"Very well. I only ask that you don't harm him. Whether our speculation is correct or not, his talent likely surpasses both yours and mine."

"I didn't expect you to rate him so highly."

"They're all here. Why don't we return to the Forest of Darkness and discuss further?"

Their battle concluded, and the two flew toward the crowd.

At this moment, Sadius remained immersed in his insights.

"This kid actually comprehended all the Profound Mysteries of both Earth and Darkness?"

The two supreme experts watched Sadius, still deep in meditation.

Even Beirut's heart wavered slightly. A genius like this shouldn't just be treated like a lab rat.

Sadius finally emerged from his comprehension state. As he opened his eyes, he saw that the battle between Beirut and Bluefire had ended.

"Mr. Leylin, you really tricked me good," Sadius joked.

"I didn't trick you. My true body is at the Saint-level," Bluefire responded.

"Alright, the battle's over. Time to go back," Beirut said flatly.

"Lord Beirut, we're practically family. Surely you wouldn't harm a newly ascended deity like me, right?" Sadius said with a pitiful expression.

"Family? Since when? I don't recall having any dragon-type magical beast descendants."

At that moment, the three Rat Kings cautiously stepped forward.

"Father, Sadius is our sworn younger brother. Technically, that makes you his uncle," Harvey said with a mischievous grin.

"Hmph. I still haven't settled the score with you three yet."

The trio immediately lowered their heads in guilt.

"Lord Beirut, you don't even need to say it—I already guessed why you brought me back. Rather than having you drag me back as a lab rat, why don't I just be upfront?"

Beirut looked puzzled. Lab rat? What was that supposed to mean? A weak beast not even considered a magical creature? Why would Sadius refer to himself that way?

"Lord Beirut, whatever questions you have, just ask. I promise to answer truthfully. I'm even willing to swear an oath to the Overgod."

"…We'll talk after we return."

The group then took flight, heading north.

Once they returned to the Yulan continent, Bluefire instructed his elder and second brothers to remain in the Mountain Range of Magical Beasts. Sadius also told Dylin to head back for the time being.

Sadius and the three Rat Kings followed Beirut and Bluefire back to the metallic fortress in the Forest of Darkness.

Inside the familiar tea room, only three remained—Beirut, Bluefire, and Sadius.

"Sadius, open your sea of consciousness. I want to probe your memories again."

Sadius felt a bit helpless. It seemed the secret of his transmigration wouldn't remain hidden much longer.

He relaxed his mind.

Beirut's divine sense entered his sea of consciousness.

Inside, two identical Azure Dragon souls floated motionless. Beirut knew that due to Sadius' trilinear soul mutation, his main soul and divine clone were virtually indistinguishable; one had already reached Divinity, the other remained at the Saint-level.

Beirut selected the Saint-level soul and began his memory probe.

But just as his divine sense approached, Sadius' soul abruptly opened its eyes and let out a furious roar.

Previously, Beirut had casually probed Sadius' mind, but his Sovereign's divine sense had been blasted out of the sea of consciousness by the Azure Dragon's roar.

That had only been a superficial attempt, using a much weaker divine sense.

This time, Beirut was probing seriously, with far stronger divine power.

The Azure Dragon's roar did nothing to shake Beirut's divine sense.

Back in the real world, Sadius also let out a terrifying roar—one that seemed capable of piercing souls. But to two peak-level experts, it was completely ineffective.

Just as Beirut's divine sense was about to enter Sadius' soul…

The soul began trembling violently.

"It has a protection mechanism!" Beirut exclaimed.

He realized that if he forcibly continued, Sadius' soul might collapse entirely.

Just what kind of bizarre soul is this?

In the real world, Sadius began convulsing violently. The trembling of his soul brought him excruciating pain.

He could feel it clearly—if Beirut pressed forward, his soul would truly be annihilated.

Beirut finally withdrew his divine sense, and only then did Sadius start to recover.

Beirut let out a light sigh.

"If what you said is true, then your mutation really is nearly impossible to replicate."

Sadius had earlier explained to the two that his mutation was likely tied to his trilinear soul mutation, as well as the two droplets of liquid that had merged into his body.

In truth, Sadius himself wasn't entirely sure how he had mutated.

Bluefire and Beirut now had a general understanding of his situation.

This kind of mutation was incredibly dangerous. The chance of survival from a soul mutation was frighteningly low.

And this danger didn't scale with level—even Sovereigns would be unlikely to survive such a process.
