Chapter 42 - Divorce.

Written by **EYRAM**

After a while, at the end of the mass employment, she found a mix of degree holders and high school graduates. She monitored the Human Resources and gave the legal personnel authority to ensure they were doing as they told her in all those reports she asked them to provide.

Not too long after, sales began to soar, but now she was conscious of making ends meet; the cost of running the company had multiplied hundreds of times and the huge debt made things even a little that much harder. It was inevitable to feel stressed out after work; she felt different, not so unsettled, and wanted to go and meet up with the rest of her family.

She went to the mansion. On that day, her hair was let loose and only parted in the middle. She wore a shirt, she did not tuck, and baggy pants, she looked like a tomboy, but couldn't care less. Serena arrived home, and those very guards she had run away from opened the doors, and Heather came running to her, shocking her. Then she asked,

"Heather, where have you been?"

"I missed you so much, I had to hide from that mean man, and that woman, who looks like you, she forced me to come out"

"Chill, they're my family members, though if I were you, I would have also done the same thing a few days ago, but as you can see now, I'm here"

Soon, hand in hand, they made their way to the living room, where Seraphina and Jack sat, idle. Jack was a mess, his perfect her ruffled, his eyes with the largest dark circles, he looked exhausted, tired. But Seraphina looked to be in a better state than when she lived at her house.

Soon, she settled into one of the seats, but her presence remained unrecognised. Jack's gaze was fixated upon a sheet of paper, looking hesitant to take action, and for Seraphina, she glanced at the open space, mainly shocked and in disbelief, but she knew it had something to do with that paper, initiating the conversation, Serena said.

"Hello, is anyone else in the room?" Snapping them both out of their daze, then Jack looked at her and said,

"Serena, I'm so glad you are here", he went, forward, inching in for a hug, but she stopped him and said,

"I'm not quite ready for that yet" Then he backed off and said,

"Sorry", she said,

"It's okay, you did not know. Seraphina, what is on your mind?" Then Seraphina looked at her and began angrily screaming,

"Serena, how, how, how. I got one chance, a single one, to be with my mom, and she chose you, who has her in all your childhood memories. I can seriously not understand why you have to always get the cream of the crop; it makes no sense"

"Oh, dear sister of mine, I have said and shall say it again, maybe you have ever thought is this behaviour, your jealousy, that prevents you from appreciating your own strength and expressing your individuality, I want to tell you that authenticity shines brighter than any lie"

"Where did you hear that line, another one of those silly books you read?"

"Seraphina, if my books are silly, then what of these fashion magazines. I do not have the time to deal with you right now, the reason I am here is to set things straight, and get a clear understanding of my social standing after the whole fiasco, and now I know I have no home to return to, I hope your happy living in the house of the man you once joined a war against" Then Seraphina stood up to leave, and abruptly Jack said,

"Stop, Serena, I have something I think you should also be involved in" Then Seraphina butted in,

"Jack, do not tell her, she is no longer a member of this household, it would barely affect her" Then Jack said,

"It would affect her greatly, the Keepers of Light, in particular, Elaine cannot swallow inferiority, they'll do things, inhumane to uncover the mysterious origin of her strength and try to replicate it, at the cost of losing an ally, they are greedy" Now Serena's interest was piqued, and she had to ask,

"What exactly is this information?", then Jack replied

"Your mom has gotten legal papers to prove she is still alive, but that means she is still my wife, at least according to the law, and she demands a divorce, half of everything in my name, and custody of you, since you are not going to school, and do not live in this house, I think you know how easily she'll be able to defend her claim"

"So, what does that mean for me?"

"As you heard, you could become a scapegoat, or a lab rat, in this war; the Dhampirs are losing logic, and just want to get their revenge hastily"

"They must get a clearer warning"

"Trust me, when I say it's nothing you can give, the last time the Dhampirs were annihilated, they did not have a Starweaver, as experienced as your mom, on their side"

"How much of a difference does that make?"

"Well, for starters, imagine fighting a war, where one side, has only and nothing but good luck, like they were fated to win the war, but on the other side, they make unusual mistakes, some costing their lives, and with the progression of the fight, the Dhampirs grow stronger and they don't need these mistakes to kill the Vampires, but we still make those mistake, I finally understand what your mom could do"

"Are there more things in the basement?"

"Everything that belonged to your mom is properly hoisted down there, but like I said, they are dangerous"

"Have you forgotten, I'm also a Starweaver?" Then, with that sentence, she went down there, Seraphina sneering, and giving her bad looks, the same girl who was weeping over her dead body. It was indeed hard to get a clear understanding of human emotions, which are just so complicated.

Down in the basement, deeper than she ever went, there were no lights nor windows, but for her keen eyes, light was secondary to vision; she could see, as clear as day, all the things that lined the halls, which looked old, which was inevitable since they had been sitting her collecting dust all this while.

But even among these dull items, some appeared to be more magnificent. She approached a clay tiger that had glowing red pulses all around it. She touched it, and those pulses turned white. Then she heard the roar of a tiger.

Next, the clay turned to a furry surface, then the tiger became a full-sized, majestic male white tiger, with white and black fur, perfectly depicted; it looked like a tiger-sized version of a well-groomed house cat, but it sat down in front of her and practically did nothing.

At first, she was rather scared, but then she relaxed a little, then she held the tiger, and it turned back into a pocket-sized statue, but this time it looked to be made of white, not red clay. Afraid of interfering with anything else, she decided that, for the time being, she would get out and focus on the divorce instead.

After coming out, she directly made it to the living room and said to them,

"Well, are you going to sign it?" she asked, but then Jack's eyes widened.

"Serena, we both know I couldn't possibly"

"Do you want to be with her?" Not giving a chance to let him answer, she continued, "Guess what? Marriage is mutual, and if she wants things to be over, let it, and; as for half of your assets, do you not think she deserves that much? But after the divorce, we shall see how she is going to blame you or anything"

"What do you plan to do?"

"I am going to steal the Keepers of light, she said she wanted me in her custody right, someone who could kill her with the mere snap of a finger."

"Well, please, do not do that to your very own mother"

"We shall see, I'm not the same person I was when I decided to stop the war, Dad, and now you're going to see it's not just with my actions and else my morals and values too"

"Serena!"

"Would you go according to the teachings of someone who does not even go according to their own teachings?"

"No, but"

"But nothing, hold on to that thought and just sign the paper" Jack could only sigh over his overbearing daughter, it made no sense to him, or at least for just that very moment, whatever plan she had she certainly did not consider how fast Elaine could grow, if she was the first Dhampir, or second, after Serena that is to evolve beyond Great Lord, she would not have a chance.

After the divorce papers were signed and the Legal handling was closed, the last thing was for Serena to go to the Light mansion and meet up with her mother, but guess what she did not plan on going there, she knew how much they needed her, including the possibility of them coming after her being as high as it was, she decided to go to her house, and wait for them to come after her.
